Cindy, I thought I would post this. It is the last song of Dylan&Knopfler tour and around 3:55 there is a really nice tribute to Bob by Mark, when he points to Bob and sings "May your songs always be sung".

beautiful, Piotrek, thank you. really well filmed for a boot, too.

do you collect? i used to when it was all cassettes, but i'm afraid they're all mush now.

Well, I can't really say that I collect in any serious way, though I have a lot of different music and concert videos and stuff like that. Some bootlegs as well. As you can see, I'm quite a hardcore Mark Knopfler's fan so I have a LOT of his music. Also a lot of other stuff, I'm not that single-minded. Very little Bob though, I have to work on that!

used to do go to a dylan chat, and we'd all copy and pass around boots from anything we got our hands on. had a few hundred shows, but only a few dozen on cd, and haven't traded or gotten any new ones on years. pagel's got all of them i'm sure.

Today it is much easier, good for lazy people like me. On last Mark solo tour there was a professional recording made by some company and you could download it after coming back from the show for a reasonable price. I got two great shows that way. With Mark it is enough, because he plays a lot of them and is pretty consistent, so they are not that much different usually.

Also got some fan-made bootlers, really nice stuff. But I'm too lazy to try to get them all and don't really feel the need.

I feel all excited btw - new Mark album coming and new Leonard Cohen album coming!

bob loves leonard, too, but you know that.

yeah, they finally figured out how to stop bootlegging. begged bob to do it himself for years, i think he does now.

and he never does anything the same twice, and the obsession people have about him blows WoT obsession out of the water.

but with the tour literally neverending, i had to stop.

still pining for new shows tho.

I've noted that Bob has some nicely obsessed fans when I visited one of their forums to read what they thought about the tour with Mark. Imagine that those crazy people barely even noticed Mark was there!

Couldn't go myself due to time constraints, but heard the tour was great according both to Mark and Bob fans. There is some talk about Bob planning to retire from touring, but nothing definite I think.

I've heard a story about Leonard and Bob once. There was an interview with two greatest singing poets, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. They were asked how long had it taken them to write some of their biggest hits - let's say Times they are a-changin' and Hallelujah. Leonard said that he'd worked and polished the song for a few years. Bob said:"About half an hour".

lol, i hadn't heard that, but i'm sure it's true. if you see some of bob's drafts, they're all scribbled on whatever paper was around, and clearly in a hurry. and you can hear from the recording sessions he's working on the fly.

haven't been to a show in 15 years almost, right around the histoplasmosis thing. i'm surprised to hear he'sthinking of retiring, cause... can't imagine what he'd do with himself after all these years. but his health can't be good, so maybe he should.

It's just some gossip I've read, who knows. He seems to be in a good shape for a 70 years old. On the other hand, it must be quite exhausting to live on tour all the time...

On the other hand, I would like to have a job I would be happy doing right until my last day... Like RJ for example.

The happy man.

I don't know, I know too little about him. What do you think?

i don't think so. i think he has moments of happiness. years even, like when his family was young. but overall he seems pretty depressed. if his writing is any indication, and interviews, and the way he's lived.

Poor Bob.

He can find some consolation in his art though. If he's able to channel some of this depression into creativity and poetry, then maybe it is easier for him to endure?

Six children and eleven grandchildren though, he should have some family life I guess?
