so we're having, "historic flooding," which we thought we had in '72 and '96 and '06 and '07, but apprently not. but now we are.

and the best advice our local authorities have for us, beyond, "prepare your medications and your pets for evacuation (which is pretty funny when you think about it)," is T.A.D.D.

and i now share it with you, because it's good advice.

Turn Around, Don't Drown.

yup, that's it. they don't say what to do once you've turned around and found that you are now on an island watching the asphalt floating by, but still. good advice.

sadly, people feel too safe in their cars and do not accurately estimate water depth or speed. so we do need the reminder about not drowning. and since they fired most of the people who could be out saving our butts right now, we need all the reminders we can get.

firefighters, state and local police, EMS people. the public work force has been more than decimated over the past few budgets. we're begging help from other states, cause there aren't enough people left to handle things here.

i cant believe some ppl are willing to wait out storms like this....

I love the press conference of the New Jersey governor in which he almost swore to tell ppl to evacuate because some ppl werent listening. This was when Hurricane Irene was coming.

if you're near the river you got no choice. irene hit us good, but this is worse than agnes now, and expecting rain (dylan quote, did ya notice?) all next week.

it's difficult for the elderly, disabled, or pet burdened to evac. but if you don't live on high ground right now you don't live. *thanking heaven for high ground*

I'm safe in the Netherlands. We got Irene the last few days. But is was only 40 mm rain and some wind.

we've had about 10 inches of rain in the last 2 days, on top of the water that irene dropped, and we're over most of the levees now. they actually closed my office, which they don't ever do, but the whole area was evacuated, so they had to. i never got in cause the roads are gone.

dang that sux...we only got the clouds from Irene thats about it..

when the weather patterns sets like this in the fall it tends to stay set through winter, and you multiply the rain x 10 to figure the snow, and... not good.

also thanking heaven the electric's stayed on. don;t know how long it will, but it's on for now.

it's a weird system. it's only 50 or 60 miles wide. not irene anymore. it hasn't really stopped raining since irene, but now we have two other tropical storms that aren't even right on top of us, and the weather people say they're stalling this band of rain here. the susquehanna is a monster all of a sudden.

OMG...Really? Behold the brilliant guidance and wit of the beurocracy! :D

Well I hope you're safe and that you don't end up with any damage to your home.

I suppose it isn't bad advice. Sometimes I am surprised at the bubbles of stupidity you find. You also have to deal with a lot of weird people during emergency weather that normally don't go out much.

I know when I was out procuring supplies for Irene I saw some straange people. Almost got run over by a franken-car made from parts of six different vehicles including a door from a wooden paneled old station wagon. The guy behind the wheel was wearing suspenders, no shirt and sporting enough hair on his chest to furnish 2 toupees.

So watch out for the flood and the freaks. Be safe! :D

i heard you got Tropical Storm Lee. First Irene now Lee. Thats like a double whammy.

lol, that could be our mayor.

thanks much :)

my house is up high, we're just stuck till the water clears and they can fix roads and bridges. water tears stuff up good.

but i'll always remember to TADD, if i can manage it :)

it's been supercraptastic. yeah, we got squeezed btwn i guess lee and something that sounds like katya, and they just sat and spun and dumped a lot of rain on soaked ground and high waterways. i got like 6 evac calls for work, at home, and luckily missed the evacs at home by a few miles, ptl. still, yech.

We had an earthquake yesterday. Yes, in the Netherlands! But not a really strong one. Only 4.5 (or is it 4,5? It is for us, but IIRC, it were the Americans that did everything weird (so not the English)).

meh. I didn't even feel it. It was too far away for me. Yeah, we have Richter too. But I don't know how it's named exactly in English. But I think I would've liked a weak one like this if I was there. Do you know one of the newspapers made a mistake in the spelling? Instead of "epicenter", they had "epic center", but then in Dutch...

(Instead of epicentrum, they had episch centrum)
