Dungeons & Dragons Online

I played a little bit of this before with some friends but they moved on to other things

I didn't want to play by myself so I stopped too

was wondering if anyone here would be willing to form a group and play together

it's a free to play game though you can buy premium items and stuff

it's cool though because you don't really need to

as you play the game they give you currency for the premium store

you wont be able to afford the really expensive stuff of course but if you save it up you could probably buy a premium item or two

but yeah anyway I'm terrible at selling games/ideas

would anyone like to play with me? I'm looking to make a group of 3-6 people (not sure if the game has a limit or not)

it's not a MUD

it's a pretty standard MMORPG from what I remember

what I liked most about it was that it had a narrator

I also liked that different classes really felt like they had different functions

I remember there being traps that only a thief or a wizard could disarm

and there were puzzles

and a great landscape to explore

there's cities too if you're looking to mingle with other players or sell/buy with NPC's and stuff

the only thing that got annoying was the small inventory because it's F2P

but honestly you don't really NEED much

it's just kind of nice to keep your loot you know?

oh and speaking of loot when you beat a quest or a dungeon there's always a loot in a chest for every member of the party

you can reassign your own loot to other players though if you want

I dunno I had a lot of fun with it when I played

so you wanna play with me/us Kara? we really need at least one more player to make this work...

it's easy enough to kill some rats or whatever in the begging with just a couple people but the quests do start getting harder

I played D&D all through the 80's and very early 90's, was always my favorite RPG along with Call of Cthulhu. If it hasn't changed too much I'll get in.

I've never played D&D before besides this MMO version but I think it captures the essence of what D&D is while also providing for people who like the usual MMO crack/crap such as PVP and lots of equipment to choose from and such

also the story they provide is pretty cool

in the starting area it's constantly snowing because of some ice dragon and your goal is to eventually defeat it

there's also some weird cult of lizard people or something that you encounter a lot

oh I totally forgot to mention the very best part

when you party up and enter a dungeon it's just you and your party until you exit

so we wont have to deal with a bunch of other people running around or anything

it really lets you get into the story/environment

Don't get me wrong I love MMO's, but nothing beats pen, paper, dice and upwards of 12 rulebooks lol.

I've never had enough friends to actually play DnD

partially the reason I'm giving this MMO another go

so uhh are you in Ish? or just commenting?

yeah it's free up to a point

I think when you get to higher levels you have to pay for quests or something but that's not something you'd have to worry about for awhile

so cool

I think we have 3 people? not 100% sure if Kara was joining or not

but yes

I'd like to try for a 4th but we can do 3 I think

how long do you guys wanna wait for more people? when should we get started?

Wait one more day? Or maybe 2 and give everyone till Friday and see if anyone else jumps onboard. That way we can plan on starting Friday night, Saturday at the latest? Or really whenever, I have kids so I'm always home after work with nothing to do.

  • Author

that sounds good to me

maybe we should talk about what classes we're all going to be?

I'm thinking I'm going to be either a Paladin or a Barbarian depending on what you guys want to be

>.< I want to play, but I've got a few games on the go already... Might join you all in a week or two, if that's alright :)

  • Author

I think that would be fine

you might have to do a little grinding on your own to catch up but I don't expect we'll be too far ahead

I guess it'll depend on how much/often we play

perhaps we should pick a specific day of the week where we play (example: friday nights) so at most you'd only be a couple game days behind us

I LOVE playing as rogues...sneak attack FTW but hopefully the game allows multi classing for good old fashion 3.5 edition power gamming! Im definately interested but my schedule is son nasty right now, I, not sure if I can get on consistantly :\

  • Author

I think you can multiclass but I didn't look into it myself since it was my first experience at all with DnD and I didn't want to bite off more than I could chew

it'd be great to have a rogue with us

when I played before my friend was a rogue and he was surprisingly useful

I say that because in my experience with RPGs the thieves/rogues are generally pointless and only serve to make the game harder for you

but yeah no he made a great scout and he could disarm traps and IIRC he helped us find secret loot that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise

hmm as for your schedule...

do you think it would help if we waited a couple weeks?

if so that might work out better since then Arlow can join us from the start

  • Author

looks like we're gonna wait

I'll PM you guys in a couple weeks and see what's up

in the meantime if anyone would like to join our group please feel free to you know

say something

sign up

whatever

the more people we have the more fun!

edit: oh btw I'm like 95% sure dungeons are scaled to match the size of your party

so more people wont overpower our group (though it might seem like that in the beginning area)

I'll be good to go by mid next week... But I think we may have a problem with timing it, as I think we're all from different parts of the world :/

  • Author

well as for timing...

my sleeping habits change often

I go all around the clock at times

but maybe we should post our timezones/locations so that we can try to zero in on a good time and day of the week to play

my schedule is 100% open and I live in SoCal which is (-8GMT) PST

Hey Nolder your in SoCal? Thats my old stomping grounds! :P

I'm in the East Coast now though, and I probably have best availability on Friday nights.

Looked at the game online, its pretty interesting. Hows the Ebberon campaign setting? I might download the server today :)

ummmm it seems pretty interesting

like I said I didn't play too much of it

and I've never played DnD before so I can't really compare it to anything

I dunno...I think it's fun
