1. I noticed the October shockwave thread was locked, after it was starting to be spammed. Are we still going to have the competition? Dwynwen linked to the thread in her recent weekly roundup post on the front page of DM, but to most it will look like the game is not being played. I submitted an entry to you for it...

 

2. The second question I had involves chaos theory. You expressed a fondness for it in another thread, which struck me as somewhat odd since you're a lightie and everything. Then you stated that it was more light-oriented. I'd like to hear your reasoning for why this is. Something tells me you'll make a good opponent in this debate

Ok another easy name to give chaos theory is the butterfly effect. It's the concept that if you change even some minute detail of a system, like having a butterfly flap it's wings one extra time, you can end up having far more dire circumstance than you can imagine, like a hurricane being spawned on the other side of the world. This essentially means two things: there's almost no point whatsoever in trying to use math to predict real world outcomes to probabilities, like the weather, and that the predeterministic style of parts of our world depend on the laws of chaos to work, which tends to bring God's role into the spotlight somewhat.

So, knowing what you now know about chaos theory, what do you think about which faction this idea would appeal to more: the Light or the Shadow, Maw?

Did someone say chaos theory? I'd like to hear Locke's take on it too. Myself, I'm not so sure I believe completely in the theory, but I don't consider it either light or dark. It is an interesting thought though. I love debates on the nature of reality. ^^

1) I stopped locking the thread after I began to feel like there was no real point in doing so anyway. However, recent events have shown that I was mistaken. All Shockwave Comps will be locked when posted and then unlocked when the submissions are posted.

 

2) Lulz. I do believe I was joking there. I don't think Chaos Theory is more Light or Shadow. I'm surprised that you think it is actually.

 

 

Chaos theory? Oh how their heads must bleed. Simply because this rag tag bunch of men do not have an organisational between the whole of them, does not mean that there is chaos in the universe. What an uterally ludicrous idea!!

I'd say it's pretty easy to arrive at the conclusion that chaos theory serves the Shadow more than it does the Light. Goin with the whole balance thing, good vs. evil can also be expressed as order vs. chaos. Chaos allows for the disintegration of any rules, morals, or guidelines which Lighties would normally try and use to suppress the Shadowies. And drawing strength and support from Chaos just makes it better, the ethical questions that would stop a lightie from harnessing the power of chaos in the universe would never get asked over in the Shadow.

I don't think chaos theory is light or shadow, just BT in general.

I'd say that Shadow can also be order...

 

Life (which is very near Light) would obviously be chaos.

 

I mean, if I think about Shadow-controlled lands, I think of dark, dead lands, but ordered. Not chaos, like fire everywhere, or something like that.

 

And with nature... Well, just walk through the nearest forest. I don't expect normal plants in Shadowlands.
