here's one of the earliest cinematic vamps i know of, nosferatu, and this was 1922, before any ratings or codes, so there re several images that might get the PG-13 ban-hammer here. this one should be ok, but you get the idea.

lugosi is the man that made vampires sexy, though. classic. gorgeous man in his day.

the blood, the blood...

and no moral grey area like the modern ones. he was pure evil, and happy to be so.

Lost Boys was possibly the first of the modern films that made the idea of being a Vamp cool. Like it was a viable lifestyle choice. Therefore they must be blamed for the sparkly ones.

Just to add my 2 cents [start Meesh Ramble/Rant]:

I'm really anti-Twilight-movies (I hate Rob and Kristen), but I love the books, and I wish people weren't so keen on bashing Twilight in general. Bashing, period, is something I don't like, but that's an entirely different issue so I won't get into it here.

Anyway, I do actually really like Edward (in the books) because personally, he's the kind of guy I wish I had in my life--he's the perfect gentleman, he's a great boyfriend (most of the time, he does have angst issues but seriously, he has a big moral dilemma to deal with--he does pretty well for someone with such a big struggle on his plate) because he puts Bella first and genuinely cares about her (which is hard to find in high school, and hard to find even after that), and he has impeccable morals--seriously, I wish I had the self control to do something like what he and his family do. If I was a vampire, I don't think I would have the strength of character to avoid killing people, because I'd be thirsty, dangit!

Yeah. Also, I don't think the Twilight books are meant to be vampire novels--which is one of the reasons "real" vampire fans hate on them so much--it's a love story that happens to include vampires and shapeshifters. That's just part of the intrigue of the story. It's not meant to say "this is how vampires should be." That has nothing to do with it.
