The RP side used to use quite a few disciplines. We still use three of them over at the SG side, namely me'arearth (path of water?), cuen'd'eren (masters of the heart?) and ren'shai (like renshi?). I'm wondering where these names come from and what they mean. Brackets is my guesses. Any help would be appreciated

well you could always ask paet, but since you banned him i doubt he answers

That was rude, please moderate your responses with respect. Devon as the DL here will probably have an answer for you F, although you could try and look it up on Google with the old tongue for meanings? Google has everything. :)

Paetric and I have always been friends for many years now and rarely didn't see eye to eye. I wasn't involved in the decision to ban him from the White Tower Social Group, but when I investigated it I was led to understand that there were site administrators involved in the conversation which led to that decision, so I'm not sure what else you'd like me to say about it? In fact I'm not really sure who you are to be speaking to me that way. Please take your unneccessary anger about something which doesn't involve either you or me elsewhere.

*edit* I don't think they are all derived from the old tongue, Rashi. My google-fu led me to a longer list of disciplines over here on the RP side, which I vaguely remember, but it's been a long time since I was over this way, 6 years or more in fact. At least I got a pleasant welcome back ;)

Ai always thought the Renshai were based on the Renshai books and not related to the wheel of time at all. The Renshai tribe are expert warriors who were trained to hold a sword from infancy. It becomes a part of them and they are absolutely deadly and as such used as royal bodyguards.

I can probably find out the books and stuff if you think I'm on the right track. It's all based on Norse Mythology.

Hey Fnorrl,

I know some of them were based on old tongue, some on ideas, and others from other books. We had them for a while, mixed them into the paths, ditched the paths and now just pick and now don't really have anything official. I can take a look for some of the older paths if you like, and all their descriptions. I should have the, floating around here somewhere, but won't be back to my computer until after thanksgiving is over.

I don't think she does. I can give her a poke if I see her on gtalk, though =)

Liitha might know something. And the new returnee, Andular, might know something as well.

Edit: I found this link from a while back where they were revamping the disciplines here in the RP.

Might give you some of the information you're looking for, Fnroll. Mat did link to a detail list of their old disciplines but seeing as she cleared her server a long while ago the link is broken. So if after reading this thread you are still interested in having her files in the matter... I can ask her (Might take a while, though, cause I don't always see her online).

Cheers,

Status report! :P

I've yet to talk to Ben-T but I have talked to Matalina. She gave me permission to post the convo, so here it is.

Alicia: Here they are where they are suppose to be: http://drpsw.wikia.com/wiki/Paths_and_Disciplines

very bottom of the page

Nynaeve: and it says there the meaning of the name of every discipline?

Alicia: each has it's own link with information

Nynaeve: yeah, I opened Ren'Shai for instance

and it says Ben-T created it

and it describes the attributes of the group...

Alicia: <nods> that's all there ever was

Nynaeve: but it doesn't say what the name means. So it's possible he just made it up?

Alicia: ren'sheai was from another series of books

and the names were almost all made up

Nynaeve: So not taken from WoT

Alicia: ren'shai was not

The others were old tongue for the most part

Alicia: the only one I know is daisho and it's sword of the dragon I think but I could be wrong... the others I'm not sure ever had translations

The link she gave is all there is, really. Ben-T could give me specific info about Ren'Shai cause he was the creator of it but as for the rest... the creators are long gone.

All I could gather was the wiki link that Nyn posted, which is basically all I remember us having. The only way to translate them is to find an online old tongue dictionary and just put the piece together. Not elegant, but it sounds cool.

Random aside, I find it funny how the RP is in many ways resembles the books, with all sorts of knowledge lost to time.
