Tolkien, Hamilton.. You shouldn't make such biased statements, there are many great authors out there.

I'm not saying there aren't. I'm saying read the books.

and I'll feel free to have my biases as we all do

tho at least this one is based on actually reading the books

I really loved the first book but after that, imo, the quality dropped off a lot. Wasn't a fan of the later installments in the series.

And yeah, the similarities to WoT are readily noticeable.

the quality didn't start to drop for me till 4 and 5 and i still liked those well enough.

and 1 was a little more polotical than i like, though a classic, definitely.

I am actually reading Dune right now lol I see a HUGE similarity between the Fremen and the Aiel, but that doesn't necessarily mean that RJ COPIED Frank Herbert.

All I know is that Dune is Dune and WoT is WoT. I love them both for what they are, even if I do end up thinking the Aiel are RJ's version of the Fremen.

You should read the next two books at least. You'll change your opinion then. You've barely scratched the surface dealing with the Fremen.

I plan to, I just have a very large number of books on my to-read-list.

reading is fundamental

Couldn't agree more

What did you buy? :)

Malazan Book of the Fallen by STeven Erickson, The Prince of Nothing series by R Scott Baker, Memory sorrow and thorn by tad williams and the Beka Cooper series by Tamora pierce. Also I bought Inheritance...

@cindy Was it brought to you by pbs?

I think you probably mean reading rainbow? or another of the rif associated shows that would end with the host saying remember reading is fundamental. but it's a huge program, they used to send bookmobiles into crap neighborhoods like mine and push books on poor kids and stuff. they were funded by PBS sometimes and sometimes vice versa I think. still around withou a lot of funding I think
