As the title says. I cannot remember if it was stated in the books, but when Tam found Rand, was Tigraine dead? We know he came back with an outlander wife who had red hair and looked like Rand, so Rand's actual birth mother makes sense. If not, it is either a weird coincidence that she looked like Rand or Tam found her for that reason

Yes, Tigraine died.

and Tam mention very clearly that Kari alwayd wanted a child but couldnt have one.

In EoTW, Rand hears Tam talking in his fever dreams about how the woman had died.

 

...gave birth there alone, before she died of her wounds.

 

...always knew you wanted children. I knew you'd take it to your heart, Kari. Yes, lass. Rand is a good name. A good name.

 

So yes, Tigraine died, and later we hear Tam talking as if he's talking to Kari, who was obviously not Rand's mom.

I had the impression Tam was already married to Kari when he found baby Rand. They'd always wanted a baby etc.

I forgot he said that during his fever dream. Guess they got lucky the Aiel have red hair

Never thought Tam had wife before he found Rand, but that makes more sense. weaving of pattern put Kari and Tam together so Tam's wife would have red hair and no one would question Rand's origin

 

If Tigrain/shaiel hadn't died she would have took her son with her and returned to 3foldland?
