The new WS Advancement System is now updated on the wiki. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to post here. If you're not comfortable doing so, PM or email me at warderdiv@dragonmount.com - this is NOT set in stone so if you see something you disagree with, let me know. With Visar's help to lay the groundwork, I was able to build this system up based on my observations and research on the Warder staff board.

The purpose is to make advancement simpler, quicker, encourage interaction, and makes it more fun. The Mentor/Mentee system is replaced with a "Peer Training" system. Eqwina had already implemented this but it hasn't been ironed out with details and updated on the wiki.

Warder WS Advancement

The Warder Rules has been modified slightly. The sections about bonding and relationships has been updated; this has been discussed with the WT RGL/AGL (Kathleen and Rasheta) so we both are on the same pages. Please read the rules to make sure you understand them. BTW - the WS required to bond used to be 8. Now it's WS 7.

Thanks all!!

This looks awesome! Streamlined and fairly simple :)

Question: is the blademaster (or equivalent) ceremony still in there as a requirement for WS 15? Or is it optional? It's mentioned as something to help with but not participating in. At least I don't see it anywhere.

Well on the one hand, for anyone to be WS 15 in the sword, i think that at least attempting to earn the heron mark would be tradition) and honorable. But if someone's main weapon is a bow or a lance, there is no "blademaster" ceremony for those. But we could improvise, making a blademaster like test or feat of skill for whatever it may be.

And it looks like we're weaning off of the specialist route WS 15 and above, so perhaps the blademaster ceremony or non-blade equivalent test would be more holistic. I think that, since we have mandatory threads for becoming a Tower Guard, we should have some sort of mandatory requirement for the character to prove they are a master. Traditionally this has been the blademaster ceremony, which i think we should keep (at least in spirit, modified for the character) but it need not be written in stone. My 0.2 tar valon marks :p

I think it should be there but make it optional not every person would want to be deemed a blademaster, i do lol but others might not.  like the idea of non-blade masters that could be very interesting.

My last character had a quarterstaff - I had the heron marks engraved into the wood to signify her status. If I remember right, to prove my worth of being a Blade Master, I had to spar against 2 blade masters but I'm trying to remember if there had to be a draw or win; or if the masters would determine if you're ready to become a Master even if you lost... Kynwric might remember, I'll have to dig through my RP archives.

I think the ceremony is optional but the spar should be required - after all, you have to prove you are worthy of the heron mark.

I think it didn't matter whether you won or lost, it was a matter of the Council judging your skill worthy. If you lost but showed excellent skill and bravery, you could still be worthy. My blademaster spar resulted in a messy draw of sorts.

So, having the blademaster ceremony as an option as part of a required Test to prove you are a master, would make sense.

I think the Ceremony should be optional, but there are only two ways to become a Blademaster as I recall, one was to defeat one and the other was to have a council of three Blademasters adjudge your skill as sufficient.

I was defeated in my Blademaster Spar, but it was a close run thing against a superior opponent (3 or 4 points of WS).

I have a question, the Path Req for WS 19-20 says it must be in your Path. However, my Path is extinct. Could applying what I did in my training to another PC's path be considered sufficient for this?

I think it would depend what the other path is and what you are going to incorporate in your training. I'm open to it. PM me the details and we'll work it out.
