Announcing the Return of Shockwave

Introduction

Some of you may fondly remember the Shockwave Competition, a former event at the Black Towers where members would submit flash games every month, and people would vote for their favourite, netting Points for everyone. While the fundamental concept of Points for all remains the same, the format has changed slightly to hopefully encourage more interaction, discussion, and all around happiness.

In short, Shockwave is back!

Format

At any point, a person may go find an online game, write a review of it, and submit it to this thread for points. Upon submission, I will add the game to the OP and put a rating system next to it. At that point, anyone else can review/discuss/rate it, earning points. Simple!

Rules/Criteria

The game must be an online, broswer-based free to play game.

A review doesn't have to follow any specific structure, but it should include the following information:
-Name.
-Link.

-Genre tags.*
-What's good, what's bad.
-Your rating.

*For genre categories, pick from this list:

  • Action
  • Adventure
  • Cards
  • Fighting
  • MMO
  • Other
  • Platformer
  • Puzzle
  • RPG
  • Shooter
  • Sports
  • Strategy
  • Tower Defense
  • Word

(Feel free to add your own genre as well, if you think it fits, and list multiple genres if they apply.)

A person will not receive points for submitting more than 1 game per month or for reviewing more than 2 other games per month.

Make sure to rate games at the official spot in the OP.

Points

Submit/Review Game = 10 Points (max: 1/month)
Review/Discuss/Rate Other Game = 5 Points (max: 2/month)

Submissions

Anti-Idle - Locke

Genre: Other

Description: In simple terms, the goal of Anti-Idle is to gain exp and reach level 9001 (which is notably over 9000), at which point you start over and try to reach level 9001 again....and again...and again.  While this may sound somewhat uninspiring at the outset, the actual gameplay involved is, in a word, addictive. There are many different sub-games a person can play within Anti-Idle: Battle Arena, Garden, Fishing, Cards, Arcade, etc. etc. Each individual sub-game is, frankly, boring in and of itself, however the best part of Anti-Idle is that everything you do increases your power to do more things not linearly, but multivariately. What I mean by that is this: When you achieve something in the game, you don't just receive one direct bonus (i.e. you leveled up; now you gain exp faster). Instead, your actions can net you multiple different rewards: exp, yellow coins, green coins, blue coins, prize boxes, bonus cards, achievements, equipment, new features, etc. etc. each which, in turn, allow you to gain more different rewards. Essentially, everything you do in the game is indirectly related to everything else and every small thing you do brings with it a sense of progress. In fact, even doing nothing can net you rewards as the game features a mode, contrary to its title, known as "Idling". In short, this game is not about a destination, but a never ending journey of pleasurable progress, customizable to fit your individual desires.

Pros:

-Highly addictive

-Easy to play

-Very diverse and extensive breadth of content

-Regularly updated

-Constant sense of progress

Cons:
-Highly addictive

-Starts out slow

-Graphics not particularly visually appealing

-No overarching objective

Rating: 9.5/10

Mahjong - Tina

Genre: I don´t know. Puzzle?

When I play games I often choose games where I need to think some but not too much. I play them to pass the time or just to take the focus off something else. I have played this version of mahjong for maybe two months now.

Mahjong is a simple game. You pair free tiles with the same symbols and then they disappear. The goal is to get rid of all the tiles.

What I like about it:

- Okay, don´t laugh now. Well, okay, you can laugh. The best thing about this game is the big tiles. Many online games like mahjong or taipei have so small tiles that I can´t see the symbols. Since I don´t know any Chinese (or whatever languages that is used) it´s very confusing when all tiles looks the same. These tiles are big and the symbols are clear.

- It doesn´t take long to play. I can do it in between stuff or when I´m watching tv.

What I don´t like about it:

- It´s maybe too simple. There are no alternativ gameplans.

- My brain dies a little more every time I play it. Could of course be positive as well. :D

Thing Thing 1, 23, and 4 - John Snow

Genre: Shooter

Description: Welcome to the world of Biological Expirement...uhh, I forget which number. 142 maybe? You play as a biological weapon created by a evil corporation. Fight your way to freedom and answers...why you were created...who are you. A good series with a great storyline. I'd say more, but I don't want to ruin the storyline. I'll leave it at that the ending is superlative.

Pros: Storyline, large variety of weapons and things to do (though more so in the later ones)

Cons: Somewhat easy, though 4 has a hardmode after you beat the game

Rating: 9/10

Tamale Loco - Theodora

This is a very fun game that will make you smile:

You play Tamale Loco (The Crazy Tamale) who is a mouse from Spanish/Mexican origin (he has a sombrero) and he needs to prepare the tamale (kind of sandwich) but for that he needs tomatoes, veggies, mustard, the tamale bread and all the ingredients are scattered on different levels and on rocks, paths, so you have to be fast, jump, grab. There are creatures which will try to stop you It is challenging but fun.

Genre: Arcade

For whom it is: Everyone who needs some brigh colours and fun

Pros: Music is very theme-oriented and you will be humming it afterwards  ,cool graphics, very colourful, challenging levels and a very cute characters

Cons: Sometimes it gets too challenging (for me at least) and you have to go over and over the level to finish it. And, it gets addictive  I reached the third level butafterthat they want you to buy it. Not the best story, so you can just have fun with the shareware.

My rating: 8/10

This is a new thing, so I'm still open to exactly how this will work. Any feedback is appreciated.

I should have a submission example and the coding for the rating up soon.

Still working on the rating system, but here's an example of a game review for everyone.  Feel free to submit a game (or discuss this one) at anytime. ^^

I'd personally recommend this game to anyone who gets a warm fuzzy feeling inside when leveling up/collecting loot/completing a quest/acquiring any random gaming bonus for any random reason.  =D

I will take a look at that when I get the time.

Something happened to the site, I accessed it this month. Anyway, thank you for taking care of my stuff  I thought you didn't like me

I don't dislike anyone. I'm against disliking people.

 I hope now everything is fine as it's a funny game.

Trying to get a ratings system inside DM is ridiculous, so I've created a little blog to host all our games.  Now you can rate all the games that people have posted here: http://locketazeline.wordpress.com/

This is just beta though, so let me know of things aren't working.

So, Santa's Sleigh Parking

http://www.101cargames.com/playgame/914/santas-sleigh-parking.html

This is a parking simulator, where you have to park Santa's sleigh with the reindeers  at a certain position. Sometimes you have to also pick the presents and get the right chimney.

It is quite fun and addictive, especially if you are trying to better your arcade skills or RL parking skills

Some of the levels are too demanding and decrease the fun factor. It loads quickly, so try it.

But this is Santa and it is useful to practice your parking skills
