Last night, I learned a new way to play mafia in real life

 

Ok so you've all probably played the version where everyone sits down in a circle and gets a card and then the mod makes everyone fall asleep and then calls the mafia, doc and cop to wake up in turn and that.

 

I'll admit, I've never really liked that way. It's just all silliness to me. 

 

 

Last night I played a new version of live mafia, and it was AWESOME!!!!!

 

We played in a small apartment, though you could play in any size of space. The lights are mostly turned off, with only one or two left on for some mild visibility and to create eerie shadows and things. Creepy music is playing in the background to add to the mood and somewhat muffle the sounds of movement.

 

During the night, everyone walks around in the dark. 

 

In our playing of the game, we had one mafia (with 8-10 other people throughout the night). That mafia would kill people by poking them in the side, thus injecting them with poison. Ten seconds later, that person would fall over dead.

An alternate way to play this in a bigger space is for the mafia to pinch the townie, thus killing them, and then they could drag and hide the body. In our version, the person would just walk for 10 seconds, maybe going to a place where they would be hidden, and then die.

 

In our version, we also had it so that the mafia could kill two people per night.

 

The night phase is over when someone finds a "dead body" and screams "MURDER!!!!" If the mafia hasn't killed two yet, then they haven't killed two. Their object would be to kill a second before the first body is discovered. 

 

At that point, the day starts, a couple of the lights are turned on, we find out who was murdered, and try to figure out who was around the victim around the time they would have been poisoned, all checking against who was where, who was near them, who would have had an opportunity to poke them, and who would have had motive. We can defend ourselves and look at the reactions of others, and who is pushing who. 

 

We pick one person to lynch, they say whether they were the mafia or not, and if they weren't the lights go off and we have another night.

 

It was so much fun, though it really made my anxiety kick in a couple of times (especially since my friends thought it was funny to jump out of the shadows at me >.>) 

well i play werewolf a lot with my siblings in RL (it's a lot like maffia it seems) and it's way nicer, i have to say ... mostly because i know how to manipulate 'em lol
