Verb said if I asked him he'd ask Jason if DM could join the clacks, but I dunno. I was so sad when I heard that I almost burst into tears at work. It was Sir Terry's book Mort that first made me laugh out loud when reading, and also helped me realised there were other people out there who liked to read what I read. Made me feel kind of normal - pre Potter lol.

But I dunno. This is an RJ Forum, so it might be weird to ask.

Well that's also good to know :)

clever people doing clever things for nice reasons. I'm still thinking it's awesome that someone thought this up.

His name is in the code, in the wind in the rigging and the shutters. Haven't you ever heard the saying A man's not dead while his name is still spoken?

I read this today:

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.”

and it reminded me of this

"I see, so you're using boots as a metaphor for the onus of responsibility and decision placed on the aristocracy as they assume leadership of complex political and social positions"

"Metaphor for..." Mat scowled "Bloody ashes woman. This isn't a metaphor for anything! It's just boots"

And when I thought of them both together I went :sad::laugh::sad::smile::sad:  and now I think I need cake.

I began Moving Pictures last night. I'd read the first eight or nine Discworld books, and this seemed like a good time to jump back into the series.

I sold all mine for charity when I got an ebook.

I'm thinking I'll be needing to get them all again once I get my office corner kitted out proper.
