Trivia about the Masquerade :

 

The Masquerade Ball or the "Ball Masqué" is an event in which the participants attend in costume wearing a mask.

 

The Masquerade balls were a feature of the Carnival season in the 15th Century. It slowly appeared during other celebrations, mainly the ones involving the late medieval court life in Europe. The Masquerade were extended into costumed public festivities in Italy during the 16th Century. They included then elaborate dances held for the members of the upper classes and were particularly popular in Venice. They have been associated with the tradition of the Venetian Carnival.
