#wotWednesday
Come on there are 21 Aes Sedai in that room with only 5 Black and Liandrin is already shielded so it is basically 4 to 1 and yet the black wins. The acting from Alannas warders is terrible knocking on the door instead of at least putting their shoulders into it was just embarrassing. Not even attempting to try and find another entrance if that door is securely locked. Big change to the warder bond that just because you are Black Ajah now you enjoy the feeling of their deaths. Why would you use the staff to beat a woman to death when you have the power to literally cut her in half with the power as seen in this spoiler. The slow motion was poor. The act of leaving the Red Ajah excluded when the charge was being a dark friend smacks of an amateur political move designed to sow discontent within the tower. She has proof that Siuan met with a man that can channel she can ask her a direct question.

Rewatch Time
I always loved getting more information on the forsaken in the books and its certainly an area that could be expanded in the show, time constraints could be a major issue though.

Season 3 Trailer - Thoughts
Ah ok if thats the case it's better, not great, but better.

Season 3 Trailer - Thoughts
Bloody hell I hope not, they have shared what 1 scene in total and you are thinking less than an episode later they could be accused of being in love.

Season 3 Trailer - Thoughts
The shields look extremely fake to me. Also not that sure the value of the shields except to block arrows and if you are defending in the town I think it would be more advantageous to cover behind buildings and other structures and use both hands for spears. With the overwhelming strength of a trolloc a melee hit to a shield would be incapacitating especially if holding only with 1 hand.

Season 3 Trailer - Thoughts
I think that the 2 rivers battle will be in the last 2 episodes. Simply not enough time to set it up otherwise cannot see how they could get Perrin out of Tar Valon before the end of the 2nd episode at the earliest. Not sure how much Isam stuff we will get again purely based off time. Even if Perrin simply just arrives in the 2 rivers in episode 3 we still have little knowledge of his wolf abilities and dreaming let alone seeing them in action. The time and the movement for this season worries me we have the characters moving over such large distances with so little time to get them all there and flesh out all the stories around those locations, I fear the world is going to feel smaller again during this season. Only 8 approx 1hr episodes to cover so much feels like its going to be a stretch.

Season 3 Trailer - Thoughts
The amount of people and trollocs look tiny. The trollocs themselves do not appear to be large Loial is just too small. The barricade looks terrible and appears to have gaps at both ends. Why are the trollocs so spread out when charging a concentrated defence just seems to be an insane tactic to run in that widely spaced out. Archers seeming to be holding bows at about half drawn while the arrows are pointing directly towards the front ranks of their own soldiers. The fact that trollocs when shot with arrows are thrown backwards by the force of the arrows. The standard of the weapons throughout the early release stuff has been questionable at best often looking fake. At 1.46 there is the scene of I think village women holding shields and spears those look truly terrible. I share your distrust of trailers (going back to the original suicide squad movie which I thought looked great from the trailer) what worries me mainly is that the trailers tend now to show the very best footage they possibly have even going so far as to include scenes not actually in the movie/show. If that was the best of the fight scenes that they have I am not hopeful.

Season 3 Trailer - Thoughts
It's a little hard to distinguish which things in the trailer are actually going to be real world as opposed to Dreams or visions within the pillars or rings which is a little frustrating from an information point of view. Thought the look of the glass pillars was awesome not so sure of the visual of Moiraine floating in the rings. The battle scenes again look terrible. Really despair the thought of what the truly massive battles from the books are going to look like. Like that we may be getting some of the set up between Moggy and Nyn and that we may also see Rand learning from Elayne.

Speculation on episode 1 of season 3
If that's the case then Rand has now escaped Aes Sedai twice with the assistance of Black Ajah/forsaken at this point I would strongly suspect him of being a dark friend.

Speculation on episode 1 of season 3
He was seen by large numbers of people. He was at the epicentre of a huge display of the power announcing the rebirth of the Dragon. He has met with the Amyrlin so has been seen by others travelling with her. He is known to be a companion of Moiraine. Are you telling me that since him being revealed in Falme as the Dragon Reborn and him then travelling all the way to Tar Valon that he is free to roam uncontested about the streets of the very heart of Aes Sedai power. So much for the extensive spy networks of the Aes Sedai.

Speculation on episode 1 of season 3
With the ending of season 2 being the Dragon over Falme reveal if Rand is in Tar Valon how in the world would he ever be allowed to leave with the rest of the group going to the waste. The only way I can see is if he is freed by the Black Ajah in a full battle but if that is the case how is he reunited with Moiraine and company and taken to the waste?

So to me it looks like Mat will not go the Waste at all.

The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
Well now that I have fully clarified my position do you still consider me to be a bigot as you have pushed for the majority of this discussion.

Defeating the a'dam
It's more than that they mix in a whole range of training methods. Something I would equate it too from the real world is innocent people confessing to crimes that they have not committed. Almost everyone believes that under no circumstances would they ever do this but there have been large numbers of cases were skilled interrogators have used a range of techniques (excluding physical abuse) to obtain exactly these confessions, and they do not have the advantage of the A'dam or almost indefinite time. If you can be manipulated into confessing to murder i do not find it remotely unlikely that given enough time people could be conditioned by the A'dam in the manner depicted in the books. John Oliver did a very good piece on this if anyone is interested.

The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
I mean I have stated my opinion on multiple occasions. I will attempt to flesh it out a bit more to try and be as clear as possible. An active inclusion policy should be purely about the innate attributes of a person. Innate being the characteristics that you are born with or are present naturally, and no I'm not arguing right wing garbage here, I believe that sexual orientation and whatever you consider to be your gender to be part of those innate characteristics and that you should be free without reservation and persecution from embracing that lifestyle. Religion is outside this along with everything else including atheism. It does not require an active inclusion policy it can be present within stories when it is required and needed. Construction companies are outside this. It does not require an active inclusion policy it can be present within stories when it is required and needed. A sports carnival is outside this. It does not require an active inclusion policy it can be present within stories when it is required and needed. And so on. This discussion may have started about diverse casting but its not what I have been talking about for most of this discussion. I cannot remember now if I thought it was an issue but the only thing I would possibly have said in a negative light about diverse casting in WoT would have been about an isolated village having a cosmopolitan mix of ethnicity as that is just not how remote pre industrial communities worked. I think i may have had a discussion here in regard to how quickly an isolated community becomes homogeneous. But I cannot honestly remember. And that is not an attack on people of color I would not have cared what ethnicity was used just that it was fairly consistent.

Defeating the a'dam
I don't think they can actually read their minds it more feelings I think. However this does extend to being able to sense deception as well which would make avoiding being discovered faking being broken exceptionally difficult.
-
Defeating the a'dam
The problem I see with some of these is the fact that once you start planning and consider using something as a weapon then you are unable to even touch or use it. Egwenes strike was a spur of the moment action, when she thought about using the jug to attack the Sul'Damane she was unable to then even touch it till she accepted she would not use it as a weapon. It would be very hard to lie to yourself well enough to consider a killing blow without triggering that reaction. The best way I think would be simply attempting to withhold your abilities during a dangerous situation. Although I don't think they used the Damane in battle till they were fully trained so you would need to hide the fact that you had not been broken which appeared to be very difficult.

The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
Sure seemed like you were defending it, at the very least you were granting it far more acceptance when the reasons for the actions are identical. Religion (and atheism for that matter) can appear in movies and stories I just don't see the need for it to be an active inclusion policy. You choose what you believe in and you should be judged on what those things use as a framework for their beliefs, teachings and actions. That is why I said before that I think that inclusion should be limited to innate traits. I am assuming you are against inclusion for those Malaysian typ4 extremists yet as you said before You talk about close minded yet you have been abundantly keen throughout this to peg me as a christo facist bigot

The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
Twisting of words does not make for a good argument you are correct. You choose to attack a fringe sect of Islam for what you deem as being misguided yet then defend Judaism for male circumcision hiding behind a medical argument. Pretending that they are performing this for medical reasons is a completely disingenuous argument. They are doing it for the exact same reason that the Malaysian muslims are because they believe that their god wants them too. Marriage is not hard it's simply informed consent. You again seem to think I am a christian for some unknown reason despite my clear and unmissable criticism of their teaching in my previous posts. I would more accurately describe my thoughts on religion as following those of Dawkins, Fry, Harris, Hitchens and company.
-
The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
It's not just fringe and extremist religions that teach homophobia, transphobia, genocide and genital mutilation its all the major ones as well. I don't see why your choice to follow those beliefs needs to be included in an inclusion policy. You falsely claimed that samt equated skin color to child mutilation yet are happy to include religions that practices exactly this act to this day. Most of this has been about getting a definition for what people deem as inclusion and if you look back you have been the one name calling. I would like for you to find a quote from me arguing against inclusion on gender, race or sexual lines.
-
The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
Ok so religion is in so that means that you are in fact in favour of inclusion of views that support genital mutilation, homophobia, transphobia and genocide. I think that for the purposes of the definition of inclusion taken in this setting it should be for a person's innate traits only. Everything beyond this is selective. You choose to be a christian, nazi, racist or scientologist. If there is a demonstrated and demonstrably unfair bias against a group I have no issue with attempts to redress that imbalance. Your read that I am right wing or on the conservative side of politics is hilariously incorrect.
-
The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
I think accusing him of that is a stretch. It seems to me that the main sticking point is the definition of inclusion. Do you for example include religion in your definition as expat does above?
-
The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
Well that clears it up inclusion is not bad except when it is.

The writers WANT to change WoT and they didn't have to
might want to have a talk with the Jack Reacher fans about that.
