Sadly, this morning, when I checked the Band's email address, I had an email from Horn announcing his plans to step down as Executive Officer of the Band, and the person in charge of Recruits. Unfortunately, he also plans to leave DM for good. This does mean that there is now officially a vacancy in the Band's Senior Staff, and I will be getting the post for applications up this weekend (and probably along with a few other applications). Horn has been a long serving and dedicated member of the Band. This is his second time serving as a member of the Band's Senior Staff, and he has always put time and dedication in. It will be a great loss, but I have accepted his …

Ok, the idea here is, if you could put together a tribute album to one of your favourite bands, which artists would be on it, and which songs would they play? Because a list like this could easily get ridicilously long, and because I like a challenge, lets put a limit at 10 songs. I'm starting with... the band: The Cure the tribute: Primal Scream - From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea Digitalism - The Walk Down - Shake Dog Shake Hurts - Boys Don't Cry Fallulah - High Nick Cave - Close To Me Iron Maiden - Shiver & Shake Daft Punk - A Forest Leonard Cohen - Faith Lykke Li - Charlotte Sometimes Damn, i really want to hear that album

Very very welcome, Tynaal. We just got this very new and very awesome recruit and until she can see the "hidden" boards let's try to make her feel welcome. Please try not to set her on fire Dice Here's a plate of brownies and over there is you cart filled with barrels of bandy so you have something to do until you get accepted.

After being bashed for her truly dreadful song Friday, Rebecca Black releases a second single called My Moment. Why has she released it? Well, the single is addressed the "haters" that have goaded the teenager. Below is a YouTube link so you can have a listen. My own thoughts are that it is much better than the previous single - I don't think you could stoop that low again! But it is still pretty bland! Anyway, I should be back up and running properly next week since I will be away from Wednesday until Friday night due to work, and then have a wedding to go to on Saturday.

INTO THE BATTLE Fear dies and spirits rise, When game begins we need no prize, We give no quart, our mind is sharp, Jak O’ the shadows shall stay in dark. Not for me shall maidens cry, Songs and stories never die. My brothers sleep until they rise, With Jak O’ the Shadows again they dice. Wait for us, it’s late to run, Your luck is done, its time for fun, Cry for ravens, cease your sorrows, Dance with us and Jak O’ the shadows. Live or dead we hold our banners, Yell and charge, we mind no horrors. In final hour we’re last to stand, Jak O’ the Shadows will see the and.

I hope that members of the Band could help me discover the true nature of Mat's memories from past lives. I am sure that there has been some theories about my dilemma, so it would be just as helpful if someone would be kind enough to instruct me where to search for them. To be more precise, there is a lot of chapters in which Mat expresses his belief that "old" memories were actually memories of other people, planted into his head when he passed through the ter'angreal in Ruiden, to grant one of his three wishes and to replace the gap caused by the dagger from Shadar Logoth. It seems to me that both Robert Jordan and Brian Sanderson more or less indicate that Mat…

I'm posting this here too in case some of you don't read General. There is an exciting new development here at Dragonmount, and I’m looking for some people to be part of it. We are planning to improve and increase the content on our front page. As a result, I am calling for applications for two people to join my staff as bloggers. Applications for these positions will be open until Tuesday, July 26th. Description of the Job Positions: 1. The first open position is for a Wheel of Time Theory Blogger. This person will be responsible for a short weekly column about WoT theories. An example of a topic for the blog might be similar to this: "Terez posted on h…

So my LoA overran slightly due to work. However, I am now settled into my new flat with Northie. We have some internet installed, so I should be getting back into the swing of things. Please give me a bit of time to play catch up and see what needs sorting. Anyway, the M-G Brews are on me!

While I know I am officially on a LoA due to exams and moving house (got the keys today!), I had the opportunity to meet Brandon Sanderson today as he was doing a book signing here in London. I managed to sit next to him during the whole day (special DM privilege) and have just finished my report, which will be published on the General Boards here, the Blog and several other places. Northie was also there with me today, and she currently has the photos. I just thought I would share (and brag!)!

Well, I saw this on Facebook and thought it would be a good idea to bring it over here! Every day (though maybe longer at weekends), I will post what the theme for the song you need to post is. All you need to do is find a clip and post it, along with a short explanation why you have chosen that song. Simple! Facebook link: http://www.facebook....120874111270003 And this will count as part of the monthly activity for the Band's roll call.

Welcome welcome, I'm Jea, second in command around these parts and in charge of these lovely little things called points. Don't worry about those yet as first you should hear from Horn shortly about the raw recruit scheme and what you will need to do there and one of us (either myself or Corki, our illustrious leader) will get you added to the usergroup so you can start browsing around even more! Until then... *hands the newbie an extra special chocolate fudge brownie and a Brew Tea* take a look around, have fun and be merry (or pippin oh wait, wrong book.....maybe that rum and coke from last night is just now hitting me.....)!

Now that the final 25 songs have been performed for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf, the Band of the Red Hand Social Group will be hosting its own final where everyone at DM can cast their votes as we determine who we think should win the 2011 contest. How To Vote The 25 songs that made it through to the final will be posted in a post below, with links to the songs so you can listen to them. And for the points for the vote will be that used by Eurovision. 1st - 12 points 2nd - 10 points 3rd - 8 points 4th - 7 points 5th - 6 points 6th - 5 points 7th - 4 points 8th - 3 points 9th - 2 points 10th - 1 point So when you post your top 10, …

With just about 20 minutes to go, it is time to get ready for the Grand Final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, which this year is coming from Düsseldorf, Germany. So it is time to settle in and see which one of 25 countries is going to be victorious. Will it be one of the Big 5, Jedward (*shudder*) or somewhere from Eastern Europe or Scandinavia? After what I felt were two mediocre (even poor) semi-finals on Tuesday and Thursday, 20 qualifiers join the Big 5 - Germany (last year's winners), France, the UK, Spain and Italy, who return this year after a lengthy break. I didn't feel there was much to shout about from the two shows, so we shall see if things step up …

Vol. I, Issue 1 Table of Contents: Quote of the Month A Word from the Editor Horn’s Activity Corner Recruit Sound-Off Dear Horn Band Statistics “We’ll toss the dice however they fall, and snuggle the girls be they short or tall, then follow young Mat whenever he calls, to dance with Jak o’ the Shadows." A Word from the Editor: Welcome to the very first issue of Horn’s Sounder! After a lengthy hiatus, I felt it was time that we return to some of our origins by brining back aspects of The Hornsounder (it is worth noting that Mystica, our last editor, gave her approval of this project), so some of you old-timers will be recognizing some of…

So, after the rather mediocre first semi-final on Tuesday, it is time to get ready for the second semi-final from Düsseldorf, Germany. Eurovision is now into its 56th year, and it is still going strong. Yet again, I will be your host for this evening's entertainment, passing my glorious comments on tonight's proceedings! Hopefully tonight will be better than the poor showing on Tuesday night - even if Jedward are involved for Ireland! So, just a quick reminder on how tonight will work. 5 countries (Germany, last year's winner, the UK, France, Spain and Italy) are all guarenteed a place in the final as the Big 5 as it is this year, along with the 10 that qualified from…

It's May, and that means for us music lovers (or haters!) in Europe that it is time for the Eurovision Song Contest. Every year, I dedicate a week to the Contest, and this year is no different. I will be hosting a live commentary on both semi-final shows next week (Tuesday 10th May and Thursday 12th May), before also commentating on the Final on the evening of Saturday 14th May. This year, the contest is coming from Düsseldorf in Germany courtesy of Lena, who won last year with Satellite. I am creating this build up thread so we can discuss the delights (or horrors) that will be coming up shortly. Here are just a few news items I have seen: - I have not…

And we are not far awy from the start of the big event - Eurovision 2011 will officially be underway from Düsseldorf, Germany. The 56th Eurovision ever, and it is still going strong! And like the last few years, I will be your host for this evening's entertainment, passing my glorious comments on tonight's proceedings. I haven't had a big look into the songs tonight, so I have no idea what will be in our mixed bag of goodies tonight! Except Ireland are inflicting Jedward on Europe... And just a quick rundown on how tonight is to work. 5 countries (Germany, last year's winner, the UK, France, Spain and Italy) are all guarenteed a place in the final as the Big 5 as it i…

For those that have access to BBC Radio 4, you will probably know of the programme called Desert Island Disks. During an interview session, the guest talks about their life, while also picking their favourite 8 songs. At the end, they have to pick one record from their list, a book and a luxury item to take to a desert island. I plan to run a similar idea here (please pick between 4 and 6 songs and hopefully find the music on YouTube or anywhere that will allow us to listen) so we can get to know the person being interviewed better and have some quality music as well. The person who has just been interviewed becomes the host for the next interview, and the cycle conti…

March's music theme for the Band of the Red Hand Social Group is the world of Classical Music. You have spent the first part of the month nominating your pieces of Classical Music to enter the contest and fight for the honour of being DM's and the Band's favourite piece of Classical Music. Now we move into the phase where you pick the winner. Overall, you managed to nominate 27 songs in total, and I am including all of them in the contest. As a result, we are going for a slightly larger than normal contest. Therefore, "It's A Knockout" extends to a slightly larger format this month - and this means there are 32 songs instead of the normal 16! "It's a Knocko…

In about 6ish hours, I will be hopping on a bus to go to Madrid to catch a plane to Athens. I will have internet access, but I do not plan on using this internet access to stay as active as normal here on DM as a whole as I will be traveling with my mom and we will be using internet to contact family, check weather, etc. We're spending 4 days in Athens, a day in Rome, a day for Pisa and Milan, a day in Venice and a day in Bolzano. Yes, I will post reviews upon return, promise! That being said, any questions usually directed towards me about points are better directed at Corki if you want a quick response...to which he'll probably say you'll have to wait for me! T…
