Since the final books were released a few years ago, we lifted the spoiler ban. We'll try to keep really big revelations out of the thread titles, but other than that, browse here at your own risk.

RJ needed to stick to his guns. If you set up Taim as Demandred, you need to follow through, not back down cuz it was obvious. Even outside of Taimandred and all that unfortunate nonsense, Demandred has huge problems. His intro in LoC was okay, but at Shadar Logoth . . . yes, he was facing a circle of three, but thats a terrible narrative aspect, you can't just have a Forsaken, one of the greatest men of the Age of Legends, beaten in his intro. Give him something threatening to do, like killing an Asha'man or two before being scared away. Just running away was poorly done. I wish parallels between Lan and Demandred had been set up, even if it had s…

I feel like the series really starts to drag in the middle and should probably have been maybe nine or ten books. I'm curious about what others think. This is what I would do: Remove the Seanchan entirely (everything about them, not just their POVs) Remove Valan Luca and the circus stuff Remove the Kin and probably the Windfinders Remove most of the camping captive stuff (a lot of this is Shaido) Trim the Tower novice lessons Getting rid of the Seanchan alone eliminates or trims a bunch of other character POV chapters where they're dealing with the invasion one way or another, on top of the Seanchan POVs themselves. Besi…

Dragonmount is officially dead. One month after announcement of the largest news of the WOT book-series in years, and no update on dragonmount. Finally its announced a special edition of the WOT series which will actually be available for the mases (orignially TOR version was not). But dragonmount let it pass over. While you post reviews of obscure books. why?

Spoiler I don't really have much of a question—more or less just some thoughts. I had an interesting convo with someone a while ago who claimed that Rand's mental health comes off as superficial. To say that after reading all 14 books is shocking. But let’s even talk about it— Of course, this is a character with extensive characterization, so you can't really call every aspect unrealistic objectively. So let us hit the nail on the right spot! Let’s talk about the very aspect of his characterization that provokes this kind of discussion—"Lews Therin / Rand." Anyone who understands the story to a reasonable extent will say they are two different people in…

Long shot, but was wondering if anyone would know how Raven Prince would be translated in the old tongue? Trying to come up with a tattoo idea and have the words Raven Prince in it using language and script from the books. Thanks in advance!!!

Robert Jordan got an interesting question 25 years ago. Q: Greg Basore from Oklahoma – If you had to put two books into a time capsule, one by you and one by someone else what would they be? A: Robert Jordan – Well, I think that I would put The Eye of the World at this point, and someone else—I think the essays of Montaigne.

I’m on book 12. I absolutely love this series. My only question is, why or how in 3000 years have they not made any technological advancements?

I've re read the series a few times, and my take on Lanfear is of a more tragic figure. Yes, she's power hungry, selfish, arrogant, and a hundred other things. Seeing her story however makes me think. We have a wildly talented and intelligent lady, as powerful in saidar as a woman can be. She's passed over for a third name over and over. And becomes even more bitter, twisted, and hungry for the power she's denied. She becomes consumed by her rage and power hunger. Lews Therin becomes a stand in proper for everything she hungers for. Even when she's offered redemption she can't see past who she hungers to be, to what she could be (something even gr…

Elaida, in the new spring, seemed to want Moiraine and Siuan, in particular to pass and attempted to help them cheat their test for the shawl. Myrelle was there as well, but Elaida completely ignored her, Why did Elaida wanted so much for Moiraine and Siuan to pass before they made an enemy of her. Why not attempted the same desire for Myrelle?

So I have always assumed that as reincarnation happens in WOT and there is a defined pattern, that there must be a finite fixed number of total souls that exist. Each one being reincarnated at different points. However this can’t be true, new souls must be being created, otherwise the total number of souls would steadily deplete. Balefire is the first cause for this depletion. Not so much an issue now but we know the in the war of shadow it was being used to eradicate entire cities. Millions of souls removed from the pattern to never be reincarnated, The DO may be the other reason, he removes the souls of various of his tools now we do no…

Recently a couple of days ago the paperback of Knife of Dreams came in the mail and I started reading it. Beginning of the book which is the prologue is pretty decent where its 95 pages of whatever just went on. Why are prologues in the last half of the book series so darn long anyway? Robert Jordan had a habit of torturing his fans to suffer through many pages of a prologue for the heck of it?

I'm reading The Wheel of Time for the 2nd time, all 15 books from start to finish, even including the prequel book. I'm on the last 50 pages of book 2, The Great Hunt. So many things have stood out to me now that I really know the characters and plots. For instance, now just finishing chapter 45, Rand fights the High Lord Turak of the Seanchan. To get to Falme, Rand, Lord Ingtar, Mat, Perrin Hurrin and the small army of Shienarans, had to travel across the entire continent from Cairhien to Toman Head, and with a clock ticking and a health concern pressing them, they had to use a Portal Stone to basically teleport. The art of using Portal Ston…

The books make it clear times and again that the a'dam is unescapable. and yet, just because you can't take it off, it doesn't mean you are completely helpless. premise: you are a prisoner. you will be tortured, abused and broken into killing your former friends. this is a fate worse than death. therefore, death counts as victory for you. if you die, it's a good outcome; you are not expecting to come out of this alive anyway. whatever damage you can deal to the seanchan before you die, that's just bonus. premise 2: an experienced channeler could just control your flows, like nynaeve did with moggy. however, the sul'dam are anything but experienced. t…

Hey all! I'm Brian. New to the series as of December 2024. I watched the Amazon show last summer and finally got into the audiobooks as I have a lot of time at my job for listening. I started with the ones read by Rosamund Pike because I enjoyed her acting. Now I have finished The Shadow Rising and discovered that is as far as she has gotten. I of course, still want to continue with the series, but am nervous I won't like the other narrators now that I am used to Pike's work. Are the others good? Should I just switch to reading them and find something else to listen to at work? For reference, I also love the Eragon/Inheritance Cycle books but HATE the na…

Hi guys and gals, First off I'd like to start by saying I have not read this entire series as of yet but I have a theory on what Jordan was really writing and I'd like to ask your opinions. Years ago I read through the 4th book. I loved the series but life got away on me and I had to stop. I've had health problems and I find myself at home with lots of time to spare and I recently noticed the show on Amazon prime and it reminded me about this series and me not finishing it. I was gonna just watch the show (which I am... I really like it for what it is but its terrible different from what I read years ago) A few days ago I bought all.the books an…

The title is self explanatory. I've posted this before... however--- It's basically two books from WoT. After reading it you'll not only see how great RJ was at subversion- at stealing scenes, you'll see a whole amazing the Amber influence struck through almost every fantasy piece today. Grimdark? The 1st 5 are practically grimdark. Trust me on this- if you haven't read Amber save your WoT reread and get to it. You'll like everything more despite the stark contrast of narration.

I had a random thought today and, hunting online can’t find an answer. I know Morgase escapes Rahvin’s compulsion, but, does she ever find out who he truly is and how he had her under such a spell, if she does which book is that in. I just can’t remember.

Hey! Longtime forum lurker and WoT enthusiast. Unfortunately, due to life events and other projects, I need to sell my WoT book collection. Hopefully this kind of post is allowed. I saw a few other similar types of posts from a few years back. The books are all 1st Edition / 1st Print / Signed. I have the Dragon Reborn, Shadow Rising, Fires of Heaven, Lord of Chaos, Crown of Swords, Path of Daggers, Winter's Heart, and Crossroads of Twilight. Unfortunately, it's not a complete set. Some of the books have some minor damage to the DJ, but most are in good condition or very good. If you are interested, then shoot me a message. …

did you know wheel of time planet is real and the story is channeled to us by Rand or his Soul, and that this is so structured and social that some of the people are using non-real names, which actually adds to the reality of this why else would moiraine sound like -more rain- in a blight tainted planet ? and egwene sound like egg(young)-win- and nyneave sounds like -dont weave- while cadsuane is just cat-su(shut up)

I can accept the fact that Nynaeve was able to make an A'dam in Tel'aran'rhiod and capture Moghedien. It's explained in detail the abilities the unseen world has to offer. It's also mentioned several times that nothing that happens there can affect the real world. How is it that the A'dam persisted? Sorry if this has already been discussed. I couldn't find a topic about it.

I finished my first read-through recently. Obviously, there is a gaping hollowness to finishing a series this large, but I was planning on it and saved the prequel to read as a way to wean off of it. Even accounting for that and giving it a bunch of time to sink in, I found several aspects of the ending left me wanting. Wrapping my thoughts/rant in a spoiler below, but how did you all feel about the end? Spoiler - The Pacing > I know there was a ton to cover and countless threads to wrap up... Not to mention what was going to be a single massive book was actually dumped into 3 separate ones... Even then, then last book…

Hello all, I am long time reader, but new to the forums. I am currently in my 4th (I think) readthrough, and I am working on focusing on the nature of the more existential elements of the series this time, so I will be asking a lot of thoughts concerning the nature of the Creator/DO, the pattern/wheel, the bore/DO's prison, and that sort of thing. First, what do you see as the Dark One's true agenda? As I understand it, the pattern is made as a wheel destined to repeat itself over and over for all eternity. Perhaps the dark one doesn't necessarily want to destroy the pattern, but just the Timewheel itself, creating more of an ever evolving Timeline instead…

Ok yet another read through recently and I found myself wondering, why if all the fantasy I have read do I keep coming back to this one to re read. If I think about it then it really should have been a 1 and done but for some reason I do keep returning. It isn’t the best written set of books, I mean there are moments that are brilliant, the build up and culmination of the battle of Emonds Field is one. But, there are actually very few moments through the series that pack this emotional impact. There is boundless repetition of prose. The characters are not consistently written well. Many of the evil Characters are very one dimensional on the page comp…

Trundling through my reread, and it occurred to me that characters shove knives up their sleeves about as often as we shove mobile phones into our pockets. The knives are arranged so they can be thrown at someone in a second. Then I started thinking about the mechanics of this, probably not something you should do too much of when reading WOT. Has anyone in the real world ever run around with knives in their sleeves? Do people do this? Is it plausible? How do you manage it without stabbing yourself? Or not being annoyed and impeded by having a bunch of heavy, metal things stuck to your arms? You're not sitting around watching TV, either. You have t…

What are the apostrophes in the old tongue supposed to mean? Are they guttural stops, pauses, omitted vowel sounds (if so, which ones), or something else? Are they just added to make it look fantasy? How do you pronounce them when reading? Personally, I just read the words as if the apostrophe weren't there and assume that they are sort of added for "flavor." But I'm not sure that is the intention. Thoughts?

The concept of Free Will is an interesting one, if I am destined to do a thing, but make my own choices in getting there then have I set on a fixed path or did I haver free will to get there. Wanting to avoid a wide ranging debate about free will in our own world is there such a thing as true free will in the WOT, or, does everyone exist on a thread as pre determined on a pattern? Alternatively, do some honestly have free will while others, those more intrinsically linked to the wheel like Rand, Mat, Perrin, the Forsaken, Aes sedai etc, have a more fixed pattern. Personally I am torn, on the one hand the events leading to Rand just being born as the Dragon ind…

In WOT, We see a great deal of Healing focused on wounds, fatigue and One Power based ailments. Are there mentions of more general healing discussed? Could diabetes be Healed, gout, cancer heart disease? Or is there a limit to what is able to be done on a general age related spectrum? Please forgive me if this was discussed before or commen knowledge. I have only done one complete read thru so this may have been answered. Dan
