I asked about your Thanksgiving Traditions and got some interesting responses. What about Christmas and New Years? I grew up with Christmas Eve being the main attraction. (We usually saw extended family on Christmas Day, so Christmas Eve, sometimes transplanted to another evening due to travel, was the family night.) We would have dinner with cheese fondue, jello with fruit (because as a Kid I didn't like the spicy cheese fondue), spinach balls, and Jalepeno Poppers (my dad and I liked the cream cheese kind, while my sister and mom liked the cheddar kind, so one box of each), along with sparkling cider, which in recent years became sparking PEAR cider. First of all, I have to apologize. If you had fun misbehaving, you are in for a bit of a culture shock. Gone are the days of spilling brew and getting away with it. He has recently returned to the Band and will be re-joining the cavalry as soon as his "access" papers are completed. Hi everyone, I am almost done with my Tolkien reread and I need something else to read after. I am considering ASOIAF. Now admittedly, I know next to nothing about GoT. The little I know suggests that maybe it's not a good choice. BUT, people on DM who I love and respect tell me they really like it. Some, like Chae, like it even more than WoT. But before I go for it, I need some info. 1. I gather that it is about different houses and people vying to sit on the sword-throne. Anyone done anything or gone anywhere interesting this summer? From the typical summer lull in activity, I'm guessing so. Tell us what you have done or are still planning to do! (And hey, I've got some promotion points and lottery tickets in my pocket waiting to be passed out... feeling creative enough to write a Jak o' the Shadows epic, or take us on a tour through pictures, or anything else creative?)

If you were not aware, I was promoted to Marshal-General today. As tomorrow is my 10-year anniversary from joining the Band, I thought this would be a good way to celebrate both! Horn sits on a barrel in the middle of the Band's camp and looks around at everyone. The Infantry, a mix of sword play, digging unneeded latrine holes while wearing dirty socks, and a few lazily gulping down Guinfantry. The Archers, busy shooting things, each other, and the Infantry, all while balancing Flaming Shots in their shooting hands. The Cavalry, enjoying the best friends a soldier could ask for, while gulping down flagons of Bandy, hoping the Redarms won't stop them for a Riding Whil…

What is your favorite thing we do here, or have, in the Band? In the next few weeks, the staff will be evaluating some things, but it would be helpful to first have a rough idea of your favorite aspects of the Band. Non-members--you are welcome to post here too, since I know there are some things on this board that non-members enjoy (Beer Club!). Members: this counts as an activity thread for August, and you can claim 1 lottery ticket for participation.
