The Kin

The Kin is focused on friendship and sharing and involves exchanges, discussions and games, as well as many other fun and exciting monthly activities!

  1. Started by MashinShin al Mashiara,

Hello to the Kin. I have been reading the threads and have even participated in some. I really like what I have seen and learned about the Kin so far and would like to join the Kin. I came here from TV.net (Thoridyss) and some of you may already know me. I do several crafts-sewing, crochet, embroidery, quilting. I also write short stories and poems. I've made baby blankets and layette sets in the past that have been donated to help low-income families who are pregnant or have small babies. I have three children. That is pretty much me in a nutshell. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you all better. :D

No.. I was 18 and a Boys Club of Pasadena Camp Counselor that part of the summer of '69 in the San Bernadino Mtns. between SanBerdoo and Lake Arrowhead influencing young minds.. dreadful thought isn't it? I bring this up because of this story I watched on Today this morning that had me choking on my Quaker Oats. Such a cool couple. Today Show Piece I did however in June of that summer go to one at the Devonshire Downs Horse Track in the San Fernando Valley north of Hollywood, that turned into something way more nasty. The next year I went to another at "Love Valley" in North Carolina and it was Peace Love Flowers. Why? well one reason is there wer…

Hi Kinsters! Guess what? I’m baaaack! LOL! I’ve had the last couple of months off from planning stuff…with the Red’s doing the Fantastic Birthday Celebration and Lor teasing me with Holiday Celebrations every day! LOL Maybe that will be a goal next year…for me to somehow celebrate all those daily holidays every day next year…hmmm.. In any case it’s August! Do you like August? Do you find it kind of a blah and boring month? For the last several years I have. I mean there isn’t any big holidays to celebrate, nothing special going on…*shrugs* but I remember that in my younger days it was a wonderful month! So I got to thinking about it…*grins* My dad’…

  5. EOMC (End of month celebration! :D) Bug's Bunny's Birthday! What was your favorite episode of Bugs Bunny? (finding it online is a plus) Who was your favorite character? Funny fact: I dated Bugs Bunny for three years. No, seriously, I did. I met my first serious boyfriend while working in the Character department at Six Flags. He was Bugs Bunny at the Carrot Club and I was his security. *grins*

  6. SOO… sounds like we’re having Italian for dinner! *grins and rubs her hands together* What's your favorite Italian appetizer? What is your favorite salad dressing? (or favorite restaurant salad) Who makes the best bread sticks? What’s your favorite recipe for lasagna? What’s your favorite cheesecake? (recipes or directions are really appreciated, too!)

  7. EOMC= End of Month Celebration So, Trivia Day! 1- Who was the first patent given to? 2- Who gave it to him? 3- What was it a patent for? 4- What year was it patented? When those questions are answered, post your own crazy trivia questions!

  8. EOMC= End of Month Celebration :D So, let’s dissect your fingerprints! I found a neat article here (with pics, Frenchie, so no excuses!): http://safety-identification-products.com/fingerprint-information.html So, what do your fingerprints look like?

  9. It's summer.. yes, don't try to deny it. And I've been reading a lot of rants and raves about yer RugRats driving you all completely crazy go nutz... SO, I've developed this handy guide suitable for cutesy ceramic magnet hanging on your heavily fingerprinted Refrigerators... YEP, been there done that happy to finally have an empty nest..... for the most part. I AM a step-grandfather for all love.. My Blog.. Dawgriver.com I have to send you there, because otherwise the guide is too small for anyone to make out a third of it.

The best part about online junk food... no calories, fat or bad cholesterol. So, are you a sweet person or a salt person? What's your favorite junk food? (don't feel you have to restrict yourself... what do you munch on when you're watching TV at night?) Does it matter who makes it? (ie, different bakeries make the same little cakes, but they sure taste different!) C'mon, inquiring minds want to know! how else do you want to celebrate this one? I started it early because I love junk food... *grins broadly*

So, today is the anniversary of the patent being approved for the paper bag. Here's my challenge... Let's see how many different things we can do with a brown paper bag. If you found a cool craft, I'd appreciate the link (I'm a teacher... brown paper bags are cheap and easy to get. I'm all ears!). So, what are some things you know how to do with a brown paper bag?

Argh, me hearties! While I was on my unexpected (and thus unannounced) LoA, National Pirates Month occurred! To fix my grievous error, we are going to celebrate it, anyway! So, we have a ship and we have a Captain (Kyn, btw...). Where are we sailing and why? Also, let's make this fun and dress up! This is my costume for this little trip:

Come one, come all as we celebrate National Joke Day! Yes, I realize it's not July 1st for some of you, but that's ok! This is the internet, it can be whatever day we want around here. *grins* So, the theme of this thread is jokes. Post 'em, laugh at 'em, relate to 'em... WHATEVER! We're fighting boredom, so bring all your laughs in here and let's BRING THE RAIN! *grins* So, this is the joke the nurse at the dr's office told me yesterday: One morning a woman looks in the mirror and frowns. When her husband asks what's wrong, she says, "I have crow's feet, my hair is turning gray, my boobs are sagging and I'm overweight. I really need to hear som…

Today is the Anniversary of the day the Liberty Bell cracked at the funeral of John Marshall (1835). So, I thought it might be rather poetic to discuss other things that have turned into screw ups! These can be funny or sad... totally up to you! :D I found some good ones here:http://www.top20fun.com/funny_jokes/4219.html Here are my favorites from that list: *Coors put its slogan, "Turn it loose," into Spanish where it was read as "Suffer from diarrhea." *When Gerber started selling baby food in Africa, they used the same packaging as in the US, with the beautiful Caucasian baby on the label. Later they learned that in Africa, companies routinely p…

  20. OK Kinsters... I know yer all awaitin' news of Twinnie's excursion into the deepest darkest depths of the Southland. Well, here's a few pics of the midpoint taken just this morning. A'fore they shoved off westward to New Orleans. I took em' to Felix's Fish Camp last nicht so Twin could have "real seafood".. She liked the fried oysters. Couldn't get her to down any raw ones, though there was tabasco a'plenty about the joint and saltines ;D ..... I'll let her tell about her run in with one o'them Apple Martini fellers.... This morning we hoisted anchor and went to see The Battleship Alabama. One of Bill's must see's. http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k…

LOL so part of the months activities was supposed to be a coloring event, Jade got busy and spaced it off. None the less here it is. I am fairly certain that the council will give points for this but they would answer that better than me. *G* So have fun, you can use any program, you can even color it and scan it, or take a photo of it. http://dmbattleajah.panthyr-ink.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/alice-wonerland-teacups.jpg http://dmbattleajah.panthyr-ink.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/athometeacup.jpg http://dmbattleajah.panthyr-ink.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/birthday_coloring_page_03.jpg http://dmbattleajah.panthyr-ink.com/gallery/albums/userpics…

  22. *bounces and grins* Oh boy! oh boy! oh Boy! May is not just about flowers and rain!! It's about giggling mailboxes too!! LOL At least for the Kinster's it is! Turning out to be one of the most fun and lengthy exchanges...it's time for our annual POSTCARD SWAP!! One of the reasons I like this exchange is that usually folks end up getting postcards way past May! Sometimes people are posting they got postcards for six weeks even!! Now in the US a postcard stamp is 27 cents! Sorry, I don't know the prices for our friends outside the USA! However, in most cases it is about 90 cents to mail a letter..so I'm thinking fifty cents? Anyway, thi…

Day one of no smoking! I have been smoking since I was 13 years old. I am 6 months away from 29. I smoke a pack a day. My husband is also a smoker. He also started when he was 13 and he is about to turn 32! :o He smokes 2 packs a day. We bought the patch today and I have the first one on. Last time I tried to quit I was able to go 10 days smoke free. This time I want it gone forever. **nods** I hope to be able to start running in the mornings or afternoons. I hope that I will control the hunger with sugar free candy. I hope to control the anger with breathing techniques. Facts: It takes 30 days to break a habit. A craving wi…
