  1. Started by JenniferL,

The first day of school is coming up in two weeks (Yes, I know. Georgia starts hideously early.) and I'm planning to have all the faculty over for lunch the weekend before. I did this last year, mainly to keep my mind off how incredibly nervous I was about starting my first year of teaching. I need some creative menu ideas. At least one teacher at my school is a vegetarian. Several are devout muslims and can't eat pork. Since I like to be as inclusive as possible, I'm planning to do a completely vegetarian meal. I'd prefer things that I can make the day before, so I'm not rushing around that morning to get things ready. I'm leaning towards finger foods right now, be…

Just accepted to the WT last week and was gonna post a LOA for vacation (started Saturday), but I was actually gone before that. Gonna take a little longer off here than my week off work (maybe 2 weeks). I have been helping my boyfriend take care of some new puppies that we had to take from the mother (they're only 5 weeks old now and we've been bottle feeding since >1week). This past Thursday we lost the littlest one, and we've both taken it kinda hard. We've had to fight to keep him the whole time, and he finally just gave up. Guess he didn't have any fight left. Anyway, I've been a bit to distracted to post anything worthwhile, but I didn't want ya'll to think I was…

  3. What was the last thing you copied while using your computer+ Press ctrl + v (or apple + v if you have a Mac like myself) and we'll find out. No cheating! Me, it was West Wing quotes (big WW fan). C.J. (...)I'll tell you what else. One in forty American men wear women's clothing, and we've had well over forty Presidents. OLIVER Yeah. C.J. I'm just sayin', one of these guys was dancing around the Oval Office in a prom dress. Now let's get to the bottom of that.

I shall be taking a LOA form today.. I do not know when I will be back..... :( The reason for this is that everything is just falling apart rightnow... My aunt who has been suffering from cancer for almost 5 years will not live for much longer...This news came as a real blow because my mother is really close to her..... Right now I really need to spend more time with my mom and family.... On top of that I have my driving exam coming up to and I really do not think I will make it... I hope I will be back very soon but I can't promiss anything

  7. David Wong, of Pointlesswasteoftime.com fame, is currently fundraising on behalf of St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. They're building a new wing to their facility in Memphis and are selling bricks that you can write stuff on. A brick that says "In honor of..." costs $750. We're trying to buy as many bricks as possible and inscribe them with silly things like "Brick Tamland". We're shooting for things that would make the kids laugh if they saw it. We've currently got one and a half bricks after three days and they'll be selling bricks for about a month longer. We're not going to write anything offensive or immoral on the bricks and if they refuse to incribe them, they'll sti…

I'm sure that many people here, like me, are proud to be geeks. :D I was thinking about some of the geeky things I do now and some of the geeky things I did when I was little, and I thought it would be fun to see what kinds of geeky things other people did as kids--hence, this thread. What kinds of geeky activities did you participate in? When I was little, my brother and I sometimes tired of action figures and wanted to play with "real people." We had our mom make us Batman and Batgirl costumes, complete with capes, and we would run around the house acting out Batman stories. We faithfully watched reruns of the Batman TV series from around the 1960's (the one wi…

Well, I saw we had a favorite sister thread, so how about a least favorite sister thread. ok, I'll start. I never liked Moraine, (although she was pretty cool at some parts) and though I've started to like her better, I still don't like Siuan, but I'd have to say that my least favorite sister is Nynaeve, yes she is cool at some parts, but she is sooo...strongwilled, pigheaded, etc. I wouldn't like to be in Lan's position.

  15. Started by JenniferL,

When we moved in last summer, Segurant and I both agreed the front door needed repainting. It's LAVENDER. Let that sink in for a moment. I have a LAVENDER front door on my chocolate brown house. I can put up with the laundry room being orange, because its a laundry room and no one really sees those. But my front door? Ugh. So we've decided to paint it a nice brick red, which will match better and have better feng shui and whatever. I get to do it alone, of course, because I'm on my (absolutely heavenly) summer vacation. Now, my question is thus: What exactly do I need to do this? Do I need to strip the existing paint off? (There appears to be a layer of orange …

  17. Okay, the MoN has already declared her intentions to have me do some major, major penance for not being around - especially since I was getting pretty darn close to advancing to der'Manishma and could be a much bigger help. But, then, as usual, I let my silly life get in the way and pulled a disappearing act. But, I have some wonderful news to share from my real life - you know, the job that prevents me from being sociable on DM for months at a time... Best news first: I'll be promoted to Lieutenant Commander on Saturday - a full month or two ahead of what I thought. Woohoo! Lor and Charis, if you play your cards right, you might even get to <gasp> se…

  25. "The Wizard People, Dear Reader" is this completely awesome retelling of the first Harry Potter movie. You can either listen to it as a book on tape, by itself, or you can put your DVD on mute and use it as an alternate narration. Its very difficult to describe exactly what it is. Its not exactly a straight up parody, but it is funny. The best way to describe it, I suppose, is as if its a version of Harry Potter being told by someone who has seen tiny snippits of the movie and is trying to retell it based on memory. Some of its accurate. Some of it is garbled. Quite a bit of it is pure fabrication. Go download. http://www.illegal-art.org/video/wizard.html

So the Atlanta newspaper has this thing right now where people can submit creative excuse notes on behalf of celebrities and public figures. This was inspired by the recent trial and sentencing of Bill Campbell, our former corrupt mayor. During his sentancing, his defense team submitted a note from his mother as part his bid for leniency. So after reading excuse notes for Ann Coulter and Cynthia McKinney (You are SO lucky if you don't know who she is.), I thought this would be a pretty fun thing to apply to WoT characters. I know we have some pretty creative people here, so lets see what we can come up with. I'll start us off. Dear Far Dareis Mai, Pleas…

I found this site http://www.paperbackswap.com Its cool because you don't need a credit card or anything. You register and start off by posting 9 books from you collection that you don't want anymore. You also get 3 "chips." Each chip is worth a book. If someone requests a book from your collection, you send that off and get a chip in return. All you have to pay is the price of shipping which is about a $1.60 depending on the size of the book. If you decide to use the site, say that I referred you because then I get a free chip :) My email is wrathysedai@hotmail.com Also if you use it, post your email and we can check out what books you have and swap! :D Sorry,…

What are some favorite comics you read? In the papers, I never miss Pearls Before Swine and the Boondocks. Doonesbury isn't as great as it once was, but I still enjoy it. Foxtrot can usually be counted on for some solid geek humor. Online, I enjoy Mr. Wiggles. Its an incredibly filthy strip about a man and his talking, perverted teddy bear. Jokes about child molestation, masturbation, drug abuse and pooping are the usual. I'm almost ashamed to admit I enjoy it. Almost. http://neilswaab.com/comics/wiggles/wiggles_main.html I used to LOVE The Parking Lot is Full. They took it offline a few years ago, but the archives are still up. Lots and lots of jokes a…
