Wheel of Time TV Show

For all discussion related to Amazon Prime's Wheel of Time TV show.

  1. I can’t believe after thirty years of keeping a tight rein on the books, intellectual property and saving the story as Jordan meant for it to be told, Harriett would let this happen to Jordan’s story. Has Rafe read the series? I doubt it. Five episodes in and it’s all over the shop.

  2. If you currently google the reviews for the show the below is what you get. I don't believe these people have any agenda. They are simply people who have watched each episode once (I think first 6 episodes) and then moved on to another TV show to review. I feel that this is an honest representation of audiences that are being introduced to the wheeloftime for the first time via the show. I am really worried that they are getting a bad impression. Now I haven't read the books in a few years, but I was excited and hopeful that the show would be great. I knew about the casting choices and was willing to overlook them even when I first sta…

Probably my favorite scene from episode 1 was during the trolloc attack when Moiraine ripped stones from the inn and used them to crush the trollocs. The inn collapsed after the battle. It didn't occur to me until just now that there had to have been people in there. Not everyone would have been outside celebrating. Some would prefer the comfort of the inn. And after the trollocs attacked many more probably joined them to shelter from the battle. We don't see it, but how many did Moiraine kill to successfully thwart the attack? She did what she had to do, but DAMN. Anything else jump out at you that the full impact was not apparent…

  4. So this is back of a cigarette packet stuff but I found myself wondering how WOT stands up to other adaptations of book to screen in terms of book length vs screen time given to the story. Feel free to discuss, and suggest other series that it would be worth doing this for. Book Number of words Audible duration (hrs) Screen time Hrs Screen Time Mins Words/ Screentime WOT 4410036 461 64 3840 1148 Harry Potter 1084170 …

  5. I am struggling mightily with the series and last night I had a dream about the title. It was a court scene. I think if i can clarify in my mind whether this is RJ's story they are telling or Rafe and Co's story. I separated this topic from accepting the adaption because I wanted this aspect to stand out a bit and then be done. To prime the pump here is what I am currently thinking. An adaptation is when the story is basically the same just adapted to work in the different story telling media, book, live theatre, TV series, or movie. Based on stories is where there are certain elements in common such as some characters or events but in general the story's are n…

  6. Article written by a long-time fan (WoTmania!) about the challenge of adapting a loved book series to a movie or TV show, and just like we did with accepting Sanderson finish the book series and how that was different than Jordan's imagination, the TV show experience is similar: accepting that we're stepping into someone else's imagination of the books. "The real world grows up around us, but the make-believe worlds that exist in black ink on white pages are ours, and ours alone, to colour in. What readers imagine is unique, fiercely held, and impossible to replicate. Adaptations destroy these individually created pictures by forcing new images on us—ones that…

  7. 3 forsaken appeares in Eye of the World. How many will appear in Season 1? Do you think this show will use 13 forsaken or is that too many to fit in an 8 seasons arc? Which Forsaken would be most likely to get cut?

I have seen confirmation that Laila is not a darkfriend. But, should she be? I'm curious what y'all think might be the reverberations a retcon like this might have for Perrin's (tv show) story. Do you think it could be part of a more interesting Perrin story, for Laila to be a darkfriend? Would it break Perrin's tv story arc, or would it be just as unnecessary as Perrin being married in the first place, haha? Taim was not Demandred in the end, so changing minds midstream has some precedent, and so I'm wondering how y'all feel about it.

Let's skip over all of the discussion on how it starts. I think we have seen a lot of this. I am planning on not looking up any info after Monday because I do not want any spoilers for the first episodes. So, I think it would be neat to share how you think it will end before we start watching it. Will it end with Rand returning from Tarwin's Gap and we are done or is this where they dip into TGH for content? Rand returns from Tarwin's Gap and the Amyrlin arrives leaving the viewers wondering what will happen to Rand next season with the treat of being stilled? Will they play up how every encounter with Padan Fain is followed with troub…

Ok we are 5 episodes in and I think it is clear throughout the forum that there is debate as to how happy people are with the Adaptation. there have been alot of complaints about thing's that are in the series, in particular certain scenes being added. But there isn't really anywhere that people can specifically say I would have done this, or I would have replaced this scene with this. So the aim of this thread is to describe what your not happy with and more importantly how you would have changed the scene. There are rules here, if you add a scene you have to remove or cut a scene, we can't go making time appear magically. If you remove a scene …

  11. Haven't seen anybody comment on this... is there any culture in the books that wears a hijab (which obviously would be called something else)? The closest thing I can think of is the Aiel Shoufa or the veils worn by foreigners in Shara. Was this perhaps an attempt to achieve greater diversity in casting? If so, I wonder if they will address this later by making this a practice of one of the existing cultures in the show.

She played Nairobi in Money Heist and I think she has the perfect look to play Faile Bashere

  13. I get the feeling that they're going to merge Myrelle Berengari's character into Alanna Mosvani. It makes sense to me, since they are going to do that with many characters, and these two at times become hard to differentiate. With the events in episode 5, where it seems to be supposed that Alanna would Bond poor Stepin, it suddenly struck me. Bonding Warders who've lost their Aes Sedai was something Myrelle was known for, which is why Moiraine arranged for Lan's bond to pass to her. There seemed to be a bit of foreshadowing re that in the chat between Moiraine and Alanna, where Moiraine mentioned passing of a Bond. Anyone agree? Disagree?

  14. After several recollections of mine became challenged regarding the source material, I felt a re-read was necessary. I'm closing in on the end of tEotW and I have indeed misremembered or flat our forgotten my fare share of details. I certainly owe a few members a retraction or two. What about you folks? Any intentional rereads out there? and if so, is it effecting your opinions of whats to come, or jogged your memory about something?

OK i will try this again, some people hate this show, and they believe they have reasons to... well I believe we have reasons to love this show so here are mine: 1: seriously the dreams!!! 2: the existence of a WOT series!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!! 3:Once i found them... the extra animated shorts rock!!!! go on tell me more!!!

  16. Started by Be true to the book,

So I get they have to consolidate , but why spend a good part of one show on the death of one Aes sedai and her warder but not being Thom Merrelin in until later , and why no interaction with them learning to play the harp amd flute and why a guitar ? why didn’t they develop that relation ship into a stronger friendship before thomm fights the fade? Why did the age the boys, part of the interest of the book is the innocent young boys having to grow up very fast , and noriaine didn’t come for 4 people in the two rivers she came for 3 boys

  17. Started by Arthellion,

So I made a thing. https://chng.it/7bJDFY75zf I truly believe that this show would benefit from a longer run time. Based on the stats, GoT Seasons 1-5 received 71% of the schedule time for WoT with only 40% of the content. Rafe needs 10 episode seasons to truly do this show justice.

  18. I didn't see one of these yet so why not I personally have some predictions about what is to come in episodes 5-8 and am curious what other people have and gives a chance for people to state their predictions for posterity here is my complete list ... this is imported from a post I made on redit so things that read "Stuff" or "Thing" are being kept intentionally vague but I expect our DM Crowd to be able to fill in those gaps without much effort these predictions were assembled from IMDB Casting Credits, Episode Blurbs, what we have left, Episode Names and what "Makes sense to me" in going from plot point to plot point Blood Calls Blood - Perrin and …

  19. There seem to be a few people who are defending the Amazon adaptation of the Wheel of Time. I have to ask why. The producers seem to be doing about the same thing that was done with the adaptation of the Shannara series, that is, taking some names and content and making their own story out of it. I (personally) am a fan of James Rigney (aka Robert Jordan) and his depth of work, his passion, his storytelling, and his wordsmithing. Every character that James created has been sabotaged in the Amazon debacle, and his foundation and story line have been left out in the cold. My question, then, is: Why are people still defending this horrible rip-off of Jim's work? Really - on …

Arguments for Thom vs. Jaskier (Be respectful/keep it civil please. This is all for good fun.) How do they compare? Which on screen iteration is better so far?

  21. For discussing Season 1, Episode 4 titled "The Dragon Reborn". Reminder: Keep discussion focused on this Episode. If your post isn't about this episode, find a thread that's similar to what you're talking about, or create a new thread. Be Respectful to each other. If your posts are off-topic, they will be moved or deleted.

  22. So this isnt fantasy per say - but my thought was inspired by a post that was quite off-topic on a different thread. It has to do with about accents. Personally I would say that accents were the least of my concern in WOT adaptation since I know that when I was reading the books I probably subconsciously had them all speaking with my own "accent" / language. Also as one who is currently re-watching Star Trek TOS - pretty much every single alien species spoke flawless English. That doesnt stop Star Trek from becoming a worldwide international success over the decades. I have never heard a single debate about what accent Klingon sounds best as. How to…

  23. Started by Tim,

One thing that I quite liked about episode 4 was the thoughtfulness of the different Aes Sedai archetypes we were presented with: - We know Moraine - mysterious and secretive and driven, but "we" (tv viewers without the benefit of the books) are inclined to believe that she wants the best for the world and (so long as they don't get in her way) the people in it. - Liandrin - Ruthless, unscrupulous, ideological, possibly evil but that remains TBC. - Karene - Decent, straightforward, respectful of authority and the rule of law, and a natural leader herself. - Alanna - Funny and charming and warm, but also perhaps layered and n…

  24. Started by Joe B,

I have reread the entire series 3 times and the earlier books many more times. I can't believe all the accents in the show are completely wrong. As I read the books, it is quite clear that all of the characters speak in various American accents. Why could they not get this basic fact right? ?

  25. Hello everyone and welcome to: Thumper's Thread. So in this thread I want us to post things we genuinely like about the show so far. Not to discourage dissent - there are other threads for that. Rather I am curious to see what kinds of things make us smile, laugh, and enjoy. They tend to get spread out in the other threads that are multi purpose so thus - the Thumper Thread. Hehe. And I do ask we genuinely post things we like. Even if you hate the show but liked the stitching on a particular cloak - that counts! So feel free to contribute. But be forewarned. …

  26. I would like to propose this thread as a place where interested parties can speculate as to what future episodes of WOT have in store for us. This could be which character threads get snipped from the book pattern, which events are unraveled from the book pattern or really anything else that lies in the future of the series This will allow us to later go back to one place and see who amongst us has the power to foretell or walk the dream. if this thread gets approved then I will post my foretelling of where S1 will end. To make this more interesting I propose the following guidelines; 1. All predictions should be couched as either foretelling ( I forete…

So I think we have covered in depth all the topics about casting and showrunners intent and politics leaking through in show. I don't want to go through any of that. I like the show. I want it to succeed. I realize I am probably not the demographic WoTPrime was aiming to attract. So my question is about success with audience. Is WoTPrime getting the reaction and viewership from the demographics it is aimed at? I would be very happy if it is. So far I have no one I know at work or in family that have watched or is talking about the show. There were for GoT. Also some for Witcher. Are younger, more diverse audiences finding the show? Has this been appealing to …

  28. So attempting to move on from the disappointments of the opening 3 episodes there are 3 key moments in the books I am really looking forward to non readers experiencing. They are in no particular order. Realisation that the world before the breaking was technologically more advanced then our own society, with hover cars and amazing tech. That understanding that the breaking wasn’t just destruction and death, but a complete regression of society back from high tech to the Middle Ages. The reveal that Rand is Aiel and the understanding of who his parents are. The reveal of the link between the Tinkers and the Aiel. The second one, Ran…

If they do write in Cadsuane they need to go big or go home. I vote for Fiona Shaw she would be amazing. Look at her. She's not taking any of rand's shit.

I hope that Barney is okay and nothing severe happened in his personal life. I have no problem with this recast yet. Donel has the looks, but of course it comes down to acting skills. This reminds me of the Spartacus TV-series. First I didn't like the new actor (Liam McIntyre) for the titular character Spartacus but he grew on me. Still was never as good as Andy Whitfield, may he rest in peace. Edit. Changed link to DM article
