Since the brief mention of ta'veren in the first episode, the show hasn't expanded on the theme or shown their effects explicitly. How should the show deal with the fact that the boys (and maybe Egwene) are ta'veren? 1. Ignore it and combine the ta'veren effects with the other character abilities (Perrin - wolfbrother, Matt - luck, Rand - channeler) 2. Keep it off-screen, but with an occasional comment (e.g., like the scene on the chase to Tear where Moraine discovered that everybody got married after Rand walked through town) 3. Use it to handwave the necessary Deus Ex Machina events 4. Explicitly show it on screen through the actors …

They didn't even stop at Baerlon...just flew right on by. So, Moraine did not get to latch on to Min. Rand will not have her to keep his feet on the ground. She was more than his mistress. She was an IMPORTANT character in the books and now she left in the dust. Maybe Moraine will find her telling fortunes in the streets of Camelan? (Sorry if I spelled the cities wrong...too lazy to look them up)

The first three episodes amply demonstrate that the writers have made (ahem) a LOT of deviations from the source material, leading to some interesting debates and predictions. In this thread, we lay our markers down. I can't make a poll big enough for this, so please record your answers for posterity by posting them in this thread. Whomever gets the most picks right will win a trip to Prague and an Ed Sheeran-esque cameo in the show!* Make sure to get your picks in quick just in case Episode 4 provides any answers! Prologue We’ll see it sometime in Season 1. We’ll see it but not in Season 1. No prologue. ? Whe…

After watching each of the the first 4 episodes twice. I'm done. I gave it a fair shot. I liked some changes. Hated others. Then also the changes made for no apparent reason. What put me over the edge though was the 'battle' scene. These actors have had minimal weapons training and it showed. One from Logain's side was holding an axe that looked like it was just taken out of the plastic from Amazon - not a scrape on it - pristine. The Warders looked just as graceless as the other side. I hope those of you that like it continue to get what you want, but for me it does not appear that the show will meet my expectations. That's fin…

I was a bit thrown with Perrin being married. Who will play Faile? Will she appear? Also I get the change up for the beginning although I believe Rand’s discussion with Tam and the events with May and Perrin once he gets to the Two Rivers was a better opening/explanation I also understand there is a lot of content that can not be fit into a series. That said ( trying to get over Perrin married to some unknown), LAN was the one who was a hard a** to the Two Rivers folk however he was and is their biggest advocate. The switch a too with Morraine being that. Kinda threw things. Also where is Elyas???? Just as Alan is Rand’s guru and teacher. Elyas is Perrin. I’m absolutely …

My thoughts are not based on any rumors or comments from anyone. So don't fear. This is just me brainstorming what to expect from season two, and what we might expect from needing to finish the series in eight seasons. I'm interested to see your expectations, too. Let's try to make this hopeful but realistic, not just cynical. If you had the brief of adapting the series but only had eight seasons to do it, what might you do, considering you'll only have six more seasons after season two to cover the rest of the books? I sincerely think we could see books two and three combined and condensed down into one set of plot arcs. For example, I don't think we'll see F…

So like many Wheel of Time obsessive readers my initial reaction to the series was poor, however this was not for the same reason as many others. My main concern was the very very rushed storytelling and the poor feel to the Special Effects. I also was disappointed with some of the Dialogue. Now I have not yet seen episode 4 (Stupid parents wanting to visit for the first time since lockdown lifted). But I have been looking online, reading the Q and A that Rafe gave, Brandons comments and taking a measure of non book readers opinions and I am starting to appreciate this for what it is. The Wheel of Time is too big to tell as it is written, that is…

First off, I Love the WOT book series. Secondly I love the WOT show as well. For those of you who didnt enjoy the show because of changes thats fine but dont poison the water for the rest of us WOT fans that actually enjoy the show. Just simply change the channel and watch something else. The show will never be how you imagined a character, area or a scene to be but that doesnt mean it is bad. Know that many of the people involved with the making of the show are fans themselves. Dont ruin this opportunity for them to improve upon the show and make it something you may love for future seasons, movies and possible video games or offshpo…

I wanted to share Rafe's comments on Loial from his Reddit AMA in their own thread. I know many are going to be disappointed by Loial differing in some way (I'm guessing his height) from his book description, so I wanted to bring it to the forefront before people are blindsided by the change. And we can use this thread for any and all Loial changes, too.

I stumbled across this show on Amazon (well, the large banners helped a bit) and I was excited at first, but then I watched the first three episodes. Giant Moraine is something that I can ignore due to it being a somewhat trivial change, but there are other issues that are difficult to ignore. Why did they choose to ignore Jordan's purposefully crafted world (with geographically separated races and cultures)? He was a student of history and meticulosly crafted what quickly becomes a very diverse world. It's a very strong component of the foundation upon which his narrative was built. Why are there 4 possible candidates for the DR (5 if you liste…

My husband and I are long time book fans and have just been speculating about how some potentially controversial plot points will be covered given how much the world has moved on since the books were written (and how these plot points may be taken). In particular, we were thinking these ones could be really challenging for the show runners to adapt sensitively: Mat's relationship with Tylin The nightmare Egwene inflicts on Nynaeve in Tel'aranrhiod Rand's relationship with three women Faile's treatment of Perrin before they are in a relationship, and then aspects of their relationship after they are married. Do you …

The title sequence...weaves assembling, threads breaking, and the ajah depiction (minus one!). Did we also get an image of Tuon in that collection of woven feminine tapestries?

What do people think will happen in the next Episode? I think we are going to get some substantial Logain backstory. I think we get more about Perrin and the wolves. And I think Thom will fight a Fade. How 'bout y'all?

My first time through I found the first episode a little bit clunky and cliched, but my second time through I catch more subtlety and character building than I caught the first time. One thing I have noticed: On these boards a great deal has been made about diversity in the show. Personally, if the show had an all white cast, that would be a negative to me. As a fan of the books I would try, but it would bother me. But What I see on the second go round is that casting has been about more than diversity. Almost everyone in the two rivers is of a quasi-dark complexion. It makes Rand stand out with his red hair. No big deal is made of this, but it is a quiet mar…

Since I'm the one who proposed this I guess I should be the one to start it. Let's see if it actually works lol With less than two weeks to go before the show airs, how are you feeling about it? On a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being "I'll hate-watch it or not at all" and 10 being "It's going to be the best show ever" where are your expectations at? What are you concerned about? What are you hopeful for? There's only one rule I'd like to propose for this thread: don't mock or invalidate anyone else's concerns. Even if you think they're ridiculous or an overreaction. We all have different things we care about and are attached to and we should still be …

Hi, all! I'm new to the forums here (will introduce myself in the designated space later), but I've been reading the books for 15 years. More to the point, I'm a teacher-scholar of Rhetoric, Composition, & Writing Studies. Since I can't leave my work at work, I can't help but notice some troubling trends in the ways that book fans converse with each other about the show. Particularly, I see us resorting to causal reductionism--a logical fallacy that involves tracing one complex occurrence to a single cause. I explain it to my students like this: if you see me at Taco Bell, you will probably assume my hunger led me there. And yeah, I'm probably hungry: but I'm also mor…

How can the white cloaks execute that many Aes Sedai without getting crushed? If and when the Aes Sedai find out, that would allow them to defend themselves anytime they see a white cloaks wouldn't it? Unless Valda has a ter'angreal I see no possible way he can capture then burn them alive.

This conversation seems to be taking place in multiple threads. Let’s put it here so it’s easier to track. So, this is a disagreement at my house. My husband likes that Egwene is elevated because as the novels progress she becomes the co-lead of the series. He thinks that having her be Taveren makes sense because events seem to turn around her as much as the three boys. I disagree. Three Taveren has a deep mythological significance and the three boys are developed in specific ways that reflect their relationship to the Pattern that Egwene is not. It’s not a dealbreaker for me but I just don’t think this was a necessary change.

I've heard Egwene call Rand a bastard and Rand call Matt a prick (were there others I missed?). But I have yet to hear; wool headed sheep hereder, light burn you, or my favorite blood and bloody ashes. This despite there being situations where they could've been easily inserted into the dialouge. While not a dealbreaker for me, I hope the show fixes this as I prefer RJ's in world "curses" as opposed to modern real world ones. What are your thoughts? Prefer one or the other or was this a neutral change?

Sorry, very late to the party. It has taken me five days to watch the three episodes bit by bit, due to work pressures, sister's wedding, and multiple other distractions Having read through all the forum threads (except the monster season 1 thread which I am ploughing through - now p9), I am picking up that in general the same people who criticised the changes before they saw the show are panning it now, and the people who were positive before are more positive now. Can we do a survey of commenters, everyone saying whether the show lived up to their expectations (good or bad) or was good when they thought would not be or vice versa. O…

I thought it would be fun to create a poll for folks to make predictions. This is not the poll - this is the thread to aggregate poll questions. Here are my entries, please add more…. Let’s gather for at least a day without commentary and then we can have at it. 1. Prologue - we’ll see it some time in Season 1 - we’ll see it but not until Season 2 or later - no prologue 2. How many seasons? - 2 to 3 - 4 to 5 - 6+ 3. When will the Saidin/Saidar dichotomy and taint be clearly explained consistent book lore? - By the end of season 1 - Later - Not gonna happen, “gender” is outdated. 4. …

Hey! New to the boards but looking at the cast - I think it looks amazing - with two questions. I thought I would see what you thought. Barney Harris - Not opposed to him as much as, I don't think he fits with the other three Emond's Fielders (not counting Rand obviously). He just doesn't look like he would have the same ancestors if that makes sense. Daniel Henney - Not opposed to him per se, but as opposed to the Mat casting, this is not a general, but specific. Daniel doesn't seem to have a fierce look to him. I also, have not seen him in another role, so for those of you who have, maybe he is fully capable. Thoughts??

So let’s all come to this topic agreeing on a few things. 1. This show COULD be great and last 8 seasons. 2. There is scenes that MUST be included to make our hearts happy. 3. somethings have to be cut. 4. Cuts are ok. 5 If someone wants to cut one of our fav scenes, we won’t get mad, but explain why it is awesome!!! Now I would love to know everyone’s fav scene that they hope is present in the show, and then one storyline we could live without. Keep: Every single scene with the Aiel. They are my fav society. Cut:The entire Ghealdon Storyline. The prophet… Elayne and Nyn butting heads and being annoying.. . I can live wit…

It has been noted by several folks that Rand went from 0 to 100 with his antagonism of Moiraine - way faster than he did in the books. We were not privy to Tam's fever dream in the show - yet. Do you think Rafe is using this to amp up Rand's rebelliousness/stubbornness? Rand is agonizing because he no longer knows who he is and he is lashing out at Moiraine. More accelerated than the books but not different in the end. Maybe we'll get treated to a flashback of the quarry road after another Moiraine confrontation...?
