Wheel of Time TV Show

For all discussion related to Amazon Prime's Wheel of Time TV show.

  1. Started by more rain,

For the first 4 episodes, at least, David Buckley has been announced as the composer. Meaning he will set the tone for the music for the series and if main themes are used throughout, many of them will probably be composed by him at the start. I don't really know anything about Buckley and haven't watched many of the projects he has composed the music for. He has done primarily television, and he has an Emmy nomination for his main title music for The Good Fight. One of the more widely known films he has scored would be the Papillion remake in 2018, I am listening to some of that on Youtube and the music is fine, but I would say that I am a little concerned th…

  2. I haven't found this anywhere on Dragonmount yet, so I'll share it here. There is some new casting news that I saw in various places around the internet, but the most trustworthy place I saw was an article about it by Adam aka Werthead on his blog (if Adam covers it, I tend to trust it, I've been familiar with him for a long long long time, going back to my RAFO and probably even my wotmania days). It appears that we have Mat Cauthon's parents, as well as a new character with the last name Aybara. Who exactly this new character is... well, that's unclear, and potentially controversial (at least some of the sources I've seen talking about it have called it thus, personally…

So now we know McElhatton is playing Tam (yay, that makes me much more interested in that character's development), who do you think Stuart Graham is playing? Thom? Bornhald? Ishmael?

  5. Started by Barmacral,

Since every TV show has to adhere to a budget some things are always dropped when adapting a book to any size of screen. Which characters and scenes do you think could be dropped in the show, substituted by another character, or is absolutely essential to keep?

  6. I think the biggest challenge of production here is this. How to approach a story so rooted in inner monologue and virtual description? Two prime examples that CANNOT be dropped being; Machin Shin ( the black wind in the Ways) and Rand in the box ( Lews Theron in his head and Rand's feeling across the shield knots ). Both of these are major parts of the story, The latter arguably The Wheel of Time's "Red Wedding". Yet both are hugely internal and unseen. I'd love to here what you all think about this page to screen challenge. What have you got?

  8. Another casting announcement? More set pictures?

  9. After a friendly debate with my co-host on our own StarWars podcast (www.kyberclub.com). I vehemently supported and defended the new, fan friendly, streaming era of small screen shows. Access to the whole season upon release is the best way to please the fans that can't wait, the ones who prefer to wait 7 days between (whoever they are), and generate interest from casual watchers who may just say to themselves "I'll check out episode 1, see what its like". The latter being more likely to watch episode 2 if it's available right away as opposed to "Ya I watched the first one, kinda lost interest." Is there any information on how this will be released, and what are you…

This summer I got to know about work on TV series based on my favorite fantasy book "The Wheel Of Time" and I thought it would be interesting to create music for it. Here is what I got. I'm going to upload one track per week. This will be my accompaniment to the story of the first book (or probably the first TV season).

Guess who didn't read the book. https://www.distractify.com/p/the-wheel-of-time-cast

On second thought, let’s just make a new thread.

  13. http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/04/29/the-wheel-of-time-will-be-adapted-as-a-tv-series -------- I have a VERY, VERY bad feeling about this. Don't do it. Please.

  14. Started by JenniferL,

Jason published this this morning and I thought we ought to discuss it here as well.

  15. Nikhil Koparkar did a theme featuring the Budapest Orchestra. I really like it. It is available on Youtube. What do you guys think of it when you have had a listen?

  16. Started by JenniferL,

We should be getting another announcement tomorrow. What news are you hoping for? More casting?

  17. Started by Barmacral,

Now that the show is serious, lets start fresh. Who would you cast for the various roles?

  18. Started by agreddon,

So, any ideas and suggestions on the soundtrack, whether they be styles or particular songs or composers? I'd really like to hear some Celtic music as part of the track.

Honestly, I say that if they can get Zoe Robins anywhere close to that in terms of costume, I will be very happy: http://www.thedailytrolloc.com/2019/08/the-daily-trolloc-102.html Not that much of a fan of the Perrin image, for some reason. Comes off as way too wild for Perrin's character.

They teased a big announcement coming this week. Any guesses what it might be? I’m hoping for set pictures myself.

  21. Started by Elestan,

One topic that's been on my mind lately, where I think the TV show could be either amazing or awful, is in its visualization of channeling. The showrunners have a tricky task here, as there were many, many scenes in the WoT that hinged on actions that were entirely invisible to a non-channeling observer. When they show the POV of a channeler (which will be more often than not, if the show gets past the first few seasons), it seems like they will need to add CGI effects that convey the origin (Saidin/Saidar/True Power) and element (Earth/Air/Fire/Water/Spirit) of each thread in a distinctive way so that the viewer can tell the difference. …

  22. Hey guys, I've been tapped by Amazon to write the new Wheel of Time TV series. We've had to make some changes from Robert Jordan's original work to support the television format. TV audiences demand fast-paced action and likable characters, both of which are in unfortunately short supply in the Wheel of Time books, as you are all no doubt well aware. So we've renamed the series "The Adventures of Lan Mandragoran", accordingly. It's not as big a change as you're probably imagining. Lan was already pretty obviously the main character of the books, so we're just extrapolating on that a little bit. Anyway, enough talk - enjoy this sneak preview of Episode 1: "Lan Discusses Ba…

Thought it was also interesting that the article says shooting will be from mid-September 2019 to May 2020. Thats gonna be around 100 days longer than the 1st season of GoT shot.

Questions need to be posted on Twitter, not here. Tag the @Wotwritersroom account so it’ll be seen. Let’s use this thread to brainstorm and speculate today, then discuss the actual Q&A tomorrow after it happens.

It’s going around today that Rosamund Pike has potentially been cast as Moiraine. I’m down with this. How about you?

  26. I determined the consensus favorites for the three roles of Rand, Mat, and Perrin (and, selfishly, added a few of my preferred choices) in a quest to find the perfect actor for the roles. Take the poll, and feel free to debate in the forum.

  27. Started by Notchbeard,

I am a bit disheartened by the choice of Pike, while she is a great actress she is both the wrong look and presence for Moiraine. Moiraine is supposed to be 5'2" while Pike is 5'9". Height is a major factor in WoT nationalities and this just makes me suspicious of other Casting choices. Pike's voice is far too deep and while she is attractive no one would call her a little doll as Moiraine was when a novice. Pike plays confrontational, angry and emotional roles all of which are in exact opposition to Moiraines questioning, calm and emotionless attitude. Finally, she does not have any experience with special effect acting, Moiraine will spend entire episodes with only a gr…

Every Wednesday Rafe posts about the tv show on twitter, this thread is just to discuss these tweets as they come up. Also here is a link to the Q&A he did recently.

  30. Started by amegakure,

I've seen that Rafe intends on depicting the show for a wide range of ages. I'm interested to know what other people think. Ive seen pros and cons for both.
