Provide reasons why in comments. Please try to be concise. You're more likely to be read and responded to if there is not two full paragraphs for each bullet point. I plan to have many reasons but will try to keep the verbiage down...

The similarities between the Aiel and the Freman, Rand/Avihenda and Paul/Chani are obvious and have been discussed at length online. I know many have stated that RJ was not influenced by the dune saga but I sometimes find that difficult to believe. There are other similarities as well, the bene gessarit and the aes sedai for instance, Currently Dune part 2 is due to land end 2023, with rumors of a planned 3rd movie or a limited streaming/HBO style series being announced based on how the 2nd movie lands. This means that potentially for the next few years at least, assuming a Novemberish release date for WOT each year, you can have Dune landing about the same time…

So we are into February and I have seen on other threads people making guesses as to when season 2 might drop. I myself posted a long detailed guess. So thought I would start a thread for people to make a guess. Be it based on looking at the current known release info from amazon or just a pure speculation. So I will go first, either End may or End September. This is based on looking at what is currently coming out and what the tent pole shows will be, however I have changed my thoughts slightly on Amazon not wanting to overlap big series given that Picard season 3 was scheduled to start the same time as Carnival row season 2. I thought they would stagger those …

Having now watched season 1 of both I wonder is the biggest lesson here that Fantasy adaptations are just really tricky. Both Rings of Power and Wheel of Time have had the same criticism leveled at them by many. Breaking from source material. Character development is too different. A poor script. Personally I think some of this criticism is fair, while other is reaching but focusing on the issues raised by many (but ignoring anything about diversity of casting, those arguments are just beyond). Both series have their good points but, my main issues with both series does come from the condensing. WOT feels rushed. As if it needed an extra 2 episod…

The mining of steel in the town, you can see I beams, that have no corrosion. Also, if metal objects are in such good condition, the beam is far more valuable than the metal it is made of, and if there are beams, they should be incorporated into structures, not melted in place of ore.

I've been finished with the books for a while and am now waiting (impatiently) for the next season, and was kinda trying to think of new things to discuss. One thing that struck me about the books is they are extremely varied in their tone. That sounds bad but I don't actually mean it in a bad way, just that there are large sections that are quite dark and large sections that are quite silly. I'm remembering a number of the escapades of the traveling circus, a lot of the physical comedy (at least 50% of which is spanking), some of the misunderstandings between Rand and Avhienda when they are first getting to know each other, many of Matt's romance and/or gambling side sto…

In the books the Sharans play no role in the series until the last battle when they suddenly play a massive role, bolstering the forces of darkness and being led by one of the forsaken. Now "river of souls" was composed of material missing from the books the idea being this would set the Sharans up. In TV and movies audiences usually react really badly to the sudden appearance of previously unknown parts of a story. They can feel cheated, where did this strange force, being, army, enemy come from suddenly with no explanation. So how does Rafe get around this. Does he ignore Shara? Have the forces that turn up to surprise the forces of light simply be dark frie…

Re reading the books I am finding myself thinking about things that I want to see in the TV show, and realise there are a number of events that as a reader you never see in the first person, but, on screen will make great action scenes. a Couple I can think of (up to Fires of Heaven). Gaul and Loial closing the gateway. Mat killing Couladin. Avihendas vision her first visit to Rhuieden (this I am on the fence about). So which off page moments that you hear about but never see first hand do you want to be given screen time?

Rafe has answered four questions so far on Twitter: 1. Favourite bit of foreshadowing in Ep1 that has not been picked up by the fans - Nynaeve saying to Egwene to surrender to the river foreshadowing her breaking her block. So we clearly have Nynaeve and her block coming up. 2. Scenes he most wishes they could have included in Ep2 - Lan killing the Fade, Moiraine's wall of fire, Lan training the boys. Nothing to learn here. 3. Choice of Thom's song - for the impact on Rand. I had noticed this, and assume most book readers did. Only interesting point was he mentioned the choice to make Thom "more …

I guess we will have a lot of fresh memes from the series when it launches. These made me chuckle. https://instagram.com/lewstherintelameme?utm_medium=copy_link What about you? Do you like memes at all? And yes, I'm probably several years late with these. I haven't participated in any online fan discussions before I joined here. ?

The debate is going back and forth about WoT being Amazon's answer to GoT (potentially). What does that actually mean though? Are people looking for another "medieval" fantasy show or something a bit different that captures the imagination of people? I suspect Amazon were looking for a highly visible series with high merchandising potential and I think this is something WoT could (have) become. In my mind, WoT had the potential to become just that, highly visible. People deciding what 'their' ajah is, in the same way they align themselves to a Hogwarts house, or deciding that they identified more with the idea of being a wolfbrother or an Asha'man …

So I noticed the two primary Ghealdan characters seem somewhat Spanish, have a Spanish accent, I hope that continues, I think it will improve the show. What accents would you like to see for other nations? Is there an accent you think would work well for Illian? What about the Seanchan?

The events of Mat going to Hinderstep are a fun little aside that shows the potential risks to the world if the dark one gets free, while also playing a key part in the last battle, one of Mats moments of tactical genius. But, with only 64 hours does Hinderstep need to be in the TV show? Pros - it is a nice, self contained, little story that can easily be told in a few scenes in an episode, it is easy to film and would make for some good TV. It helps tell the story of Mats transformation from vagabond who supposedly does not want to be the hero and general, to the leader he becomes showing real compassion for the villagers. Finally that set piece moment at the…

So with the show there is an opportunity to see more of the WoT Universe, there are many things that happen in the WoT Universe that we do not get to see On Page. It would seem from Season 1 AoL cold open that we are getting to see the time before the Breaking. I understand time and budget (not so much) constraints. But if you could see something that we never got to see On Page what would it be? I would like to see: The opening of the initial Bore and subsequent destruction of Collam Daan and the Sharom. Lanfear publicly declaring for the Shadow. Lews Therin humbling Ishamael in the Hall of Servants. (Would be good to have that set against t…

https://people.com/tv/wheel-of-time-author-on-amazon-adaptation-series-exclusive/ I just stumbled on this interview from 2021, I had a look and couldn't find it referenced here on the forum (if it is please redirect me there). There are some interesting comments in it but the thing that jumped out is the timeline. Brandon says that the Dragon was last alive 1000 years ago, he says it several times and even says 10 centuries. Now this is very different to the reality of the books where it has been what about 3500 years since Lewis Therin died? So, was this Brandon mis quoted/mis-speaking, has the show, for no reason I can tell, changed the timeline to just…

I know a comparison might not be fair considering LOTR has a $250 million a year budget and the Tolkien family had put restrictions on Amazon such as mostly only allowing the series to be based mostly on the appendices of the LOTR and refusing to allow it to be a continuation of the Hobbit and LOTR movies. Since they were mostly using the appendices there are some strict limits on what they could do but it also frees them from the main WOT complaint about changes being made to the books. Considering there is a division among fans about if WOT was good or not, would it be bad for the future of WOT if the LOTR was a huge success? Will every WOT be compared to …
