I agree with the fact EOTW is quite derivative and Rafe had the burden to make it unique. But judging by the critic reviews, it doesnt seem Rafe succeeded. Rememeber the Critics dont care about the changes. They are reviewing quality Shadow and Bone was in the same situation. The source material was your typical chosen one girl with a mild Love triangle thrown in. The Show runner had the same challenge to make it unique. And they did. They cleverly introduced an new plotline that ended up making the Show BETTER than the books. So the Shadow and Bone showrunner succeded where Rafe is doing.....averagely

I wanted to make a thread just where people can say tiny little things they caught that might be references to the books or that made them go 'Yes!' from the different episodes. No discussion here, ideally....that can go in the other threads. Just little mentions of things you saw that others might miss. I'll start. Episode 1 : Tam al'Thor describing how the Wheel works and how it lets you do it better next time. (Referring to the events on top of Dragonmount) Episode 2: Mat describing his dream with the bats and how they all had their necks cracked (Referring to the hangman's noose)

There was a shot of the seven broken towers of Malkier in ep8 that I haven't seen discussed in much detail yet. My first reaction is that they look more like termite mounds from Africa than broken towers but that's just my predisposed negativity at this point. Upon closer look, were those towers formed to look like figures? Past Kings? I don't remember any lore from the books......

I wanted to post this because Mat is my favourite WoT character but I’m ultimately left conflicted by his character in this season. On the one hand I feel Barney Harris did a decent enough job with the material he had to work with, but what he had to work with didn’t seem to really capture the essence of Mat from the books that well in my opinion. To be honest it felt like he had gone to the dark side even before taking the dagger and I didn’t see anything roguish or charming or fun in him, which I’ve always thought were important parts of Mat’s character and is why I like him so much. I also notice they seem to have written Mat out of the rest of the season (I a…

Battles The big battle scenes in both GoT and LoTR/Hobbit are the standards for fantasy battles. Gandalf's charge at Helm's Deep, Rohan's charge at Minas Tirith, The Vale's charge at the Battle of Bastards are all classics. I am sensing a pattern here--charges when all is nearly lost. Where might they be in WoT?

Question for episode 1 that's been bugging me. Did the trolloc attack occur on Winternight or Bel Tine? Here are possible explanations. Winternight: 1. Rand and Tam came down a day earlier than the books....Winternight's Eve? 1a. Same for Moiraine and Lan 2. The dancing, merriment, and lantern lighting are Winternight celebrations. 3. Padan Fain arrives on Winternight day, as in the books and says "Happy Bel Tine" to the kids, because Bel Tine is a multi-day time of year?? Bel Tine: 1. Rand and Tam come down on Winternight, as in the book. 1a. Same for Moiraine and Lan 2. The dancing, merriment, and lantern lightnin…

I can't accept that the oath rod and oath wording were one episode plot devices. Add to that the show's addition of Min's viewing of Moiraine. (I'm cognizant of the difference between "the Amyrlin Seat" and "Siuan" in the viewing). Why add that viewing if her storyline was going to remain the same as in the books? I've seen speculation that the Eye is a trap that Moiraine is leading Rand into, and since this event is triggered by Siuan's dreams, falling into the trap would mean the Amyrlin caused her downfall. But I see this as a possible mistake on Moiraine's part, not necessarily a "downfall." Downfalls are more hardcore and tragic than that. Moiraine's dow…

Some of these threads are getting a bit stale so I thought I would post up a new angle. That would be how we think characters are going to shake out as the show goes forward. This thread was inspired by all the keystrokes devoted to discussions regarding the super girls and Matt especially. So I would like to solicit feedback on which of our characters will rank highest. I would propose a two component ranking system. One component is simply screen time and off screen discussion about the character. The other is the glory of the deeds done. So by that standard Nyn is winning as she healed a whole bunch of people who should have been dead. Moraine is probably win…

I read an article leading up to the show reporting that the show runner and producers were trying to get Bella just right. She evidently is a fan favorite. Now that we are 3 episodes in, where is Bella? Was she assumed to be one of the horses ridden out of the Two Rivers? Did I miss her?

Since the show has altered some of the prophecies, or characters are interpreting them differently, let’s have a thread to discuss those. Min seeing a vision of Rand holding a baby really threw me off for a minute. But when they spoke earlier I realized that she was talking about the baby she saw Tam holding in Tar Valon. An interesting change. The gold rings and white flames are obviously supposed to be the Flame of Tar Valon and the aes Sedai rings. But I do wonder if Nynaeve’s ring will turn out to be Lan’s instead?

Two questions: Is it normal for a show to announce a 2nd season before the 1st season premieres? I think not, but am woefully uneducated in the industry - plus things may have changed in the last several years due to all the newer content producers out there. There are no rules! Whether normal or not, why did they announce season 2 when they did? I think it was because they knew they had a weak product for season 1 and were trying to build excitement to salvage their investment: Don't worry, we have a plan and all will be explained... It must be good - we're already filming the next season! So what do you think -…

I looked up the reviews on Amazon a few days ago. The earliest reviews included a ridiculous number of five-star ratings, many at a time the reviewers couldn't possibly have actually watched anything. The vast majority of the reviews since the season ended are one- or two-star ratings. Many lamented the fact that Amazon doesn't allow zero-star ratings. If you exclude those early reviews from people who didn't actually watch, their average would be about a 1.75.

There has been a lot of conversation about the casting and I'm not trying to debate the actual casting again. I'm wondering how each of you sees these characters? Who did you have in your mind when you read the book? If you didn't read it, are there characters you think could be played more effectively by someone else? For the sake of the thread, you can pick from different eras (as Jordan did with his list) but more points if they are all actors available now. Rand A young Brendan Fraser Mat Timothee Chalomet Perrin A younger Chris Hemsworth Nynave Odette Annabel Egwene Hailee Steinfeld Moraine- Ro…

will there be a special extended edition of the show? I suspect they have a lot more footage than they showed. in paticular, they scripted "basil gill",and we got the announcement for it, and then he appears in one scene and doesn't utter a word. smacks to me of a small part that was cut for timing reasons. do you think they will take that extra footage and do something with it?

Ok, so Spoiler prior to Rand and Nynaeve's cleansing of Saidin I posit that every use of the one power (shown on screen) channeled by men is corrupted in some way. It might be the madness of the thoughts he has when he channels, it could be the probability of factors in the weave itself, or where it is directed, a culmination of physical or mental stress, or something, but somehow The Dark One is involved in every use of the One Power by men while the taint is present. filthy. I posted this in the show side because I think we will get the chance to see this more visually in that medium, but I wonder how this extends to the books too. Surely th…

Besides characters, plot and lore the thing that stood out to me most in RJs work was the depth of the cultures he crafted. While I am kind of ok with what they did in S1 concerning the first 3 things I cant say Im very satisfied concerning the last part. Of the 3 major places we get to see at least 2 have been significantly changed. The Two Rivers go from being prudish and cut off from the world to a much more modern feel ( I get why they did it and it doesnt bother me that much, but it IS a rather significant change). The Tower seems fine to me so far. And then we get to the Borderlands, that in my opinion really got the short draw. Yes there ar…

I thought it would interesting to try and jot down a rough idea on how I would have gone about setting out the first season. I will start by saying that I don't think 8 1 hour episodes is enough. Really 10 would be the least I can imagine to tell the story in any way properly. Open with Prologue establish taint/madness on saidin and stakes. Allows you to set a tone on what violence levels are going to be shown. Gory or Disney. EP1 Finish with attack at farm EP2 Trip down Quarry Rd exit Of Emonds field to the ferry scene. EP3 Fleeing towards Camelyn give Moiraine her fight scene to break hole in trolloc lines arrive at Sha…

I've seen there has been some debate about the dagger Fain has at the end and whether it is THAT dagger. As per the below. It appears this absolutely is the same dagger and that Fain has Mat's dagger from Shadar Logoth. So I honestly cannot see how Loial and everyone else who got wounded with it cannot be dead. ? Spoiler Guess they are going to have to invent a solution for the problem they've created with this if it is true that Loial is coming back. Episode 2 Episode 8

(alternate balefired title: Wheel of Daddy) In the series, Jordan focuses a lot on portraying male characters' emotional tension or pain in relation to women in their lives—LT and Ilyena, Rand and Kari/Egwene/Elayne/Min/Avi/Ilyena/Every FDM, Perrin and Faile, etc. It appears to be his go-to method for injecting a nice shot of pathos. I read a thread on Reddit where it was pointed out that it's a bit weird that LTT is so fixated on having killed Ileyna while practically never acknowledging his slain children. One plausible explanation for this is that it reflects the much greater salience of wo…

Hey All, I'm creating this thread as a place we can discuss the future of the WOT TV show. This is a thread meant for constructive discussion of the future of the show and how character arcs, clues, foreshadowing, easter eggs, etc. will play out from here. This is not a thread for discussing how good or bad the writers are, when Rafe should be fired, that the show will fail, or other completely meta critiques. For example: GOOD: The show constantly powers up the women and powers down the men. This definitely conveys a strong imbalance of power between men and women in Randland. I wonder how this imbalance will be revisited in future seas…

So a little more light hearted then many of the other posts here recently. The term Grim Dark comes from the warhammer 40K game and books created by games workshop. A universe where there is pretty much no hope, where humans spend there lives wondering if tomorrow they will be killed by all manner of threats, dangers, their own government, dragged off to have their souls sucked from their body to fuel a long dead emaciated corpse or just die of hunger due to food not being provided because of an administration error. I find it funny when people refer to Rafe making WOT Grim Dark because it is no where near it. So I thought I would do a thr…

Spoiler Ok, the burning scene was fine. You can explain away why the Aes Sedai didn't fight her way out. The scene with Moiraine was either terribly written or there have been big changes. Maybe both? First of all, White Cloaks would recognize(at the very least) Aes Sedai agelessness. The fact that they didn't(Valda especially) is proof of bad writing or agelessness is totally out. Second, they would recognize a Warder traveling with his Aes Sedai. This could be explained away I guess, so not a huge deal. Third, and my biggest critique. White Cloaks are kind o…

I feel that any time someone weaves there's a lot of hand gestures and dancing about. I haven't read the books in a while but I am sure that part of the testing to be Aes Sedai requires a woman to not only cast complex weaves but also to do so quickly and under pressure. We have seen Aes Sedai casting quickly in the forest fight and even the unschooled Egwene casts rather fast in the tent but anytime weaves are shown (usually Moiraine) it seems to take forever. They say a chaneller can turn the tide of battle and can replace 100 men but I think an archer can shoot 5+ arrows in the time it takes Moiraine to pick up a rock and throw it. I really hope…
