Badriyah was awake in bed long before sunrise, using the edge of a plate she had “accidentally” dropped on the floor in the kitchens the day before to carve shallow cuts along the inside of her upper arm, a place she figured few people would ever see in her life in case a scar was left, though she was now used to cutting shallowly which allowed her skin to heal over time and appear as flawless as it had before. Blood dripped onto her fingers in the black and white darkness, oozing, warm, a deliciously dark, rich color that stood out in contrast to the almost bloodless appearance of the skin around the cut. She quivered in relief as she resolved her longing through this fo…

~Owen~ The early morning sun had just crept over the forest around the Stedding. An ethereal quiet hung over the forest, it was the time when the nocturnal predators had found a safe place to sleep, and the day time predators had not yet woken up. Owen loved this time of the day when anything seemed possible, a hope and confidence filling him as he worked through his loosening up exercises before starting his morning run. This morning he felt the need to push himself further, to truly exorcise the demons that plagued him since the return. As Owen jogged over to the place all the Wolfkin met at who took part in the early morning run, Owen offered greetings to those wh…

Autumn again: one year since his brother died, still it Dorian's 19th birthday was coming up and blast her if Saline would not do something to make him cheer up. Were it not against her beliefs, she would have moon ducked him in the sadsacks a long time ago, but lately she was glad that she had not done so. Nerome felt the same way, and between the two of them they decided to Do. Something. About. Him. Their mutual friend was wasting away, and she would have gotten into cahoots with the Darkfriends' circle if they could only make the blind Trainee happy. ”Happy for a night, and he'll thank us for it later,” she had assured the Cairheinian. 'Rome seemed lukewarm to t…

~Dorian~ “There will be a time that you´ll be separated. A time you´ll have to live without your brother, Dorian” The voice of his father still droned in his ears, somehow not having left his mind in it´s ever-returning reminder since the day his brother Danian had died in his arms, perished from this world and had him left behind, fulfilling their father´s words like some dark prophecy neither of them had been wanting to believe until the inevitable actually happened. As if to mock himself, now, on his first day off after the “grievous incident” as it was officially called, Dorian was finally let off the confinement of the walls of the White Tower again, afte…

Crimson and gold petals slashed into the wind as she spliced her blade through. Getting her frustrations out every other day was the only ward she had from going insane. Practice with the scimitar relieved the mind. Away from the classroom, her problems did not seem as big as she made them. A bright unclouded day around her, she realised that she was worrying too much about how others see her. Here, garbed in breeches that liberated her, she felt dashingly divine. A figure swathed in the shadows leading up to the clearing proceeded her way, strange and sharp features hitting the flame of her eye. Ears burning she ignored it, and despite, definitely being conscious o…

The construction of the Citadel had been completed a while back, but there were still some of the original wooden structures remaining. Amon was atop one of the old wooden towers, marvelling at how large the Citadel had become, and how the walls seemed to grow from the very earth so cunning had been the work of the Ogier stonemasons. Amon was alone at the top of the tower and appreciated the peace and quiet that this solitude afforded him. Although he was not that high up in the air, it was high enough to allow him to ignore the sounds from below and just indulge himself in admiring the work that had gone on to complete the Walls and the actual Citadel itself. Amon turned…

Kedyn rose early the sun just beginning to filter into his room through the window at the corner. His eyes flittered open and he took a deep breath, the faint flowery scent coming off of Miria. He kissed the top of her head softly and slowly tried to untangle himself from her. Her head was resting on his chest and he had one arm wrapped around her, but there was still a good two hours until he was coming back for her. She mumbled lightly but her eyes didn't open. Kedyn threw open his chest of clothes and pulled out what clothes he could find that would look presentable, stiffling a yawn with his hand. He pulled on some small clothes followed by a shirt and some breech…

~Estel~ Estel rolled over in the blankets, murmuring unintelligibly. Unconsciously she moved her arm, searching for a warm body that was not there… That was how she woke up. No shocking, sudden memories of yesterday, no temper tantrums, no dramatic fainting, just disappointment that she hadn’t woken up next to Orion. She sighed deeply as she probed his Bond, trying to discern his emotions and convey that she was alright and not hurt… just sleepy. Unfortunately, the Bond was fuzzed by distance and it was impossible to tell what he was feeling or whether he understood or could feel what she was trying to tell him. Only once she had done that did Estel turn to…

Fat drops sprinkled his face as his murky eyes made their customary survey. No sun peeked through the heavy grey stormclouds that darkened the skies he watched, but he pressed on with the morning sun salutes anyway. It was habit, and he valued healthy habit as the mark of an educated, disciplined upbringing. Moreover, it was the pride in taking care of yourself on your own, making your way up the society not from inheritance, but rather through the diligence of one's endeavours. He could go on with explanations, but what use when a merchant family back in Jehannah would not understand. What makes a young man abandon his Guild to venture here, their voices clamoured with a…

Quote: Dismissing the child, Mortimus sneered. Incorrigible. - Excerpt from Inquisitor Evelyn's collection of legendary lives A good idea, perhaps the birth of a tradition; that was, to weed out the unfit. Training a Child required time and money, and though they all walk in the Light - it was simply not practical to take any who wanted to be a part of their community without the testing day. Once sworn, the Child of Light could be taken out of the Fortress, but the Fortress would never be taken out of the Child. Evelyn should know this. The inquisitor was an experienced instructor, and qualified since the initation wrapped up well with the first batch. Pleas…

Finding somebody to love and cherish would be nice -- if they do not keep dying on you. Leaves in her cup gave indication to the feebleness her hands exhibited: traitors. Opposite her sat a woman quiet in her self-assurance; for months she avoided this woman, more strongly than she ever deflected from any others. When it was announced that the woman had been raised to the Ajah Saline aspired to, she decided to avoid the Red Quarters. Then the catalyst in form of a schedule bulletin on her desk found the Accepted oddly elated and repulsed, irrationality escalated: she retched in reaction. In retrospect she deemed her experience extraordinary. Au fait: Examining…

I hate studying. I hate studying. I hate studying. I ha- Zaire sat in the library, reading a book on the elements. She thought she should start studying more. She was never really one for studying but she knew it had to be done. She propped her head on her fist as she read through the mile wide book. Well, she thought it was big enough to be considered a mile wide. Some Aes Sedai probably would say it was a children's book compared to most in the Tower Library. Well, she wasn't about to mess around with those ones. Every once in a while she'd look up and look around at who else was in her section of the library. Plus, it helped with her attention. If she just kept reading…

Sam's Post: Bobby leaned against the bowspirit. He breathed deep the ocean wind filled with brine. There was little to see other than the silhouette of his breath rising, and the steam from his cup of tea. The ocean swells were lost to view as the predawn mist blocked sight and muted sound. The swells sounded distant; even as he felt them raise and lower The Merry Pauper beneath his feet. His nose was numb and his skin stung with the cold, but this was his favourite time and enjoyed the quiet. He loved the ocean, with its unforgiving and whimsical nature. He had spurned it for years as the legacy of his father, only to discover desire. Desire for a prow beneath…

~Rossa~ Her pencil lay nestled in her pouch; next to the little figurines now worn from years of wear. Rossa’s first experiment with the world of art had proven she had a gift for it; and now she was developing it as much as she could. Her sketchbook was nearby, never far from her these days, so she could draw things that helped her research, her own personal development and networks, and furthermore it soothed her. She found it relaxing to lose herself in the tiny crosshatched strokes of a good sketch; casting an appraising eye to make sure that perspective was maintained. Rossa found herself taking pride in capturing the little things as accurately as possible – a…

Some of us were stymied; others moved on: one by one we all figured out to trust each other, and have faith in our new homes. What in Light was wrong with young women nowadays Saline did not have a bally clue. When Tahira Sedai’s cheeky warder Odesius warned her of Aurora’s ‘witty hands’ she lit on to the sneaky, disreputable behaviour of her student, about whom the Warder suggested there was questionable merit by social norms, perhaps. But to go as far as to mention the lack in character had been overboard even of the Sister, simply because she had been afraid to stretch her neck for a stranger was unthinkably ignominious as far as suffering would go, further than …

As Tanis waved farewell to her companions, she felt the first tingles of excitement course through her. Now the adventure really started. Upon arriving in Tar Valon, the gentlemen accompanying her began to find a place to stay almost immediately. They chose a small but respectable looking Inn and her Gleeman friend Andras had made a deal with the Innkeeper of performing at the Inn in exchange for a free meal. That had been the trend throughout their journey together, and Tanis didn’t think anything ill of it. If she had any talents (which she did not), she would have offered her services as well. But apart from darning old clothing and cooking and cleaning, she had not mu…

Kneeling on the ground, Aran knew he was early by a good while and that Sirayn would only arrive at the very moment she was required. But, it did give him time to prepare himself, that much was important because today he had been faced with a number of choices, this was one of them. The training of Sirayn had persisted even after she had become Amyrlin, she might have gained status but a spill to the Hall would have been just as decisively disastrous if not more so. The example of Karana was still in the memories of those in the Tower and the Hall would not look kindly on the Amyrlin having ever dealt in Forkroot and having brought it into the Tower, whether she'd gott…

Some time after the threat to her daughter, which as it turned out could compel her obedience but couldn’t force her past her instinctive fear of being touched, she decided to learn the Flame and the Void. Emotion only shamed any right-thinking person. An Aes Sedai who could not stuff her own fear down enough to do whatever she had to might as well not wear the shawl. Everybody knew that the Tower Guard had this trick which killed stupid sentimentality; therefore she needed to corner some luckless victim and force him to teach it to her. That person’s identity she did not yet know, she trusted no Tower Guard as far as she could throw them after the past three had tur…

Stepping clear of the portal, Duram let the passage through the pattern spin out of existence as he began walking up the path. Tear didn’t entirely agree with him, but the location was certainly picturesque. It certainly beat some of the hovels he’d had to frequent over the past couple of weeks, but that was a different matter altogether. It certainly didn’t bear on what he was doing here. No, he was here because a certain friend of his had suggested that he visit this place and even shown him the way. A woman wished to speak with him, always nice, but this one was a darkfriend. One with talents, talents that would make her quite useful to him. The other intere…

Lillian was finding that being Accepted was... different. She'd always been alone in her room so that had not been a great change, though the size and other added things were welcome. What she liked most was that she now had the freedom to choose what she studied. Unlike others who seemed to have a preference already decided, she had no idea where her future was. Not even her arches had seen fit to reveal that to her. So she spread herself, studying a bit from every Ajah she could and found that Ajah interests often mixed. This was the case of her current piece of study, green in application but brown in creation. She had all the pieces of equipment she needed …

Sitting in her room, Lillian set aside her quill and proceeded to raise a hand to her temple. Kneading it gently, as if it would somehow help to banish the headache that was beginning to form, Lillian leaned back in her chair in a decidedly unladylike slouch. Her work was slow, not to mention subject to change either due to a new piece of information or simply a better way of expressing an idea coming to Lillian. She'd known that it was going to be a long work from the start, but it had now been over a decade since she had begun and her attempt to be as accurate as possible not only demanded constant revision but constant re-examination of her materials and research. …

~Dorrin~ “Can we please talk about this?” Dorrin protested as he was led through the woods. His hands were securely tied together and his sword was currently in the possession of the man who was pushing him further into the forest. The man was with two other people, both of which had severely bruised faces. The two beaten men were the reason for Dorrin’s present predicament. It had all started when Dorrin found them going through his things at the inn he had been staying at. When they saw him the two men protested that they had thought the stuff had been abandoned and they did not know that anyone still claimed possession for it. Unfortunately for them Dorrin w…

Telcia shook hands firmly with Master Laughlin over the still wet ink on a contract scroll. Nearby several men in his employ nodded in approval and even one or two clapped. The deal was fair, tighter on her end than she would have preferred but Iussi’s father had been in ailing health for some time and had lost his bargaining positions within the major trade circles some time ago. Lucky for her, Iussi’s stunts at the races in the name of the Queen and her socializing both inside and away from The Kin, had proved most advantageous. Taking her copy of the parchment and rolling it carefully into the scroll case, she stepped lively back towards her carriage. The city …

This was probably the worst place in all of Tar Valon to be. Cari stopped at the gates of the White Tower almost in a state of panic. -What if someone recognizes you?- *What if they see through your new self.* Will you kill them all? Questions came but none of them had answers, no one could know what would happen the moment she stepped back on to the land that she had once called home. Cari wished she'd brought Demus with her but he was off doing something of his own at this moment and she didn't want to wait any longer for him to show up. A voice from up on the wall rang down. "Lost, ma'am." Cari looked up and saw a famillar face one that she'd not seen in man…

Emelia adored the softness of her boots. They had come at a heavy expense, but they had been worth each and every steel piece. They felt good against her feet, and were one of the few luxuries she allowed. They were piceous, not for any fashion predilection, but for the sway of economy. Anything could be obtained in such a colour, and at any quality for any price. At a distance fashion was irrelevant and all garments looked the same. On this particular occasion her ensemble consisted of; simple leggings, tunic, a heavy leather jerkin, pigskin gloves and a riding cloak--all black. Today she had dressed up a little, to celebrate the closure of her latest expedition. Mer…

~Rossa~ It was apt how things worked sometimes. Rossa had her sketchbook tucked under one arm and her pencils and charcoals in her belt pouch, all ready to work on her art if she was not needed to run errands. She had been assigned to run errands anyway for her former mentor, Aleanda Sedai of the White Ajah, but if the chance arose, Rossa always liked to have something to work on. It also meant she could surreptitiously study the comings and goings without appearing to, when she was not required to stand endlessly, shifting from one foot to the other to ease the cramps that would inevitably tie her calf muscles in painful knots. An initiate did what she was told, …

Jory made her way to the barracks, and found the room that was hers. Ginae had made her put her belongings into the room, and to expect a roommate to arrive by day's end, so she'd taken the bed farthest from the door. She opened her packs, and started putting her clothes away; uniforms in the top drawer, underthings in the second. She folded everything meticulously; everything she owned had a place that it would belong. When her clothes were away, she opened a trunk, making sure everything was in its place in there as well. Reluctantly, she laid her many tiny daggers in their flat velveted cases, all but a tiny juggling knife. She closed the trunk, and sat…

It was with a fond smile that Aramina found herself in a small training patch in the Yards, dressed for travel and waiting and she had at a different time for a different Tower Guard. It was the same place she had gone with Alric out to have her Wilderness training and now she waited for Michael as he finished up the last of their preparations. His message had been to come ready for a few days training mission and with enough notice to ensure she could arrange it. She tried not to smile as she waited for him, but she was failing miserably. She heard his approach and all though of hiding her smile were gone. She looked up at Michael and remembered dancing and tal…
