Hi all, been rereading series after a very many years, and just finished crown of swords. I gotta say of all the major Forsaken fights in the series so far the battle with Sammael was the most underwhelming and disappointing, especially considering the 2.5 books of build-up towards this moment. First of all, just seemed a lot harder to believe how Rand pulled this off compared to other fights. Basically he just ends up seeming pretty invincible in a very unrealistic fashion. He literally just wakes from being a fingernail away from death, being scratched by Fains dagger (which in itself the whole scenario was annoying....like there's a bubble of evil around yo…

So I've been reading around the internet (including some posts on here) and there are some great fan theories about the metaphysics of the Wheel of Time. Does anyone else think the Bore could be in Tel'aran'rhiod? Or more accurately, just beneath it. We know that Tel'aran'rhiod is the world of dreams, but more than that, we know that across all of the Multiversal patterns, there are only one Creator, one Dark One and one Tel'aran'rhiod. Essentially the world of dreams is the manifestation of consciousness, which is why you need to sleep to enter it, with the exception of entering the realm of consciousness physically. So I imagine a sort of trifle, at the bott…

I believe that the characters in the book were so well developed that there are a plentiful supply of relevant subplots and mini story arcs that can be helpful for anyone looking for ways to deal with different stages of their own life. It's a bold claim, but go ahead and challenge me with one of your life challenges and for fun I will try to use an example from the book (not the tv series) to provide an analogy.

I made a YT video backing up my claim that travelling via Portal Stone allowed Rand, Perrin and Mat to see alternative and past lives, and it heavily affected each of them: I believe that Rand unconsciously became a baldemaster from this point on; Mat became capable of leading an army; and Perrin accepted his fate that he must help Rand as The Dragon Reborn. Please subscribe to my channel. I will be adding way more WoT and other fantasy series info in videos in the very near future! This is basically my 2nd video on the channel and have no following yet. I can really use the help. I hope you guys like my idea on …

Anyone else excited for Origins of the Wheel of Time? Haven't seen much discussion about it - I'm looking forward to seeing who Nakomi is at last! I've found a limited edition of the book - I'm thinking it will look good with the rest of the hardcovers. It's a UK shop but looks like they ship elsewhere. https://inkstonebooks.com/product/origins-wheel-time/

Ive been rereading after 15+ years and have gotten to book 7....and even now as shes starting to grow more as a character, I keep wondering to myself: how in the world was Nyneave the wisdom? She has literally 0 leadership or people skills, 0 self awareness, no control over her emotions...basically just supremely immature. It's rather annoying and seems unrealistic that someone who was in her position could be so. Also, what is with the level of loathing of Mat in books 6-7...like I get she finds him frustrating but what is with the over the top feeling that he is the worst thing in the world and would do anything to keep away from him and otherwise just hits…

I have finished reading the Great Hunt a few days ago. Thoroughly enjoying my first re-read of the series. One thing I always loved about WoT were the Magic System and the metaphysics of the world. I loved the rules and the consistency of the One Power system, it always felt fully formed and fully fleshed out to me. On my re-read I am noticing some of the earlier differences before the One Power and metaphysical nature of WoT was more clearly defined. So far I have found the following, that while not necessarily inconsistent, stand slightly separate from the rigidity of the One Power and its internal mechanism and consistency: The Black C…

In the last book, Rand comes out of the Dark One's cavern before it collapses, carrying a body (his body - cause he is Morridin now with 2 arms, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to carry a body), and trips and falls. A mysterious woman kneels and says, "yes, that's good, that is what you need to do." All we know is that she is wearing what looks like Aiel cloth, and is old. Is it the same lady (Nakomi) who approached Aviendha when she went to Rhuidean to become a wise one? She also mysteriously increases the amount of coals, like Rand lights his pipe without saidin or the true power. Also what was she referring to, 'what you need to do'?

Hi all. Been re-reading the series after 15 years or so, and just finished book 4 and starting book 5. I am puzzled by how things go down at the end of TSR and Rand trapping Asmodean. Throughout book 4, Rand is talking to himself about springing a trap before they do, being the hunter this time, nobody knows what I'm planning, etc. As things play out, clearly he intended to trap Asmodean somehow so he could teach him, having gotten the idea from Lanfear in Tear, but is in the meantime just trying to work towards uniting the Aiel chiefs behind him. He clearly knows that Lanfear and Asmodean are among the peddlers that join them in the Waste...and then afterwards, in …

Hello all, So, we know that Lews Therin talks to Rand (I think we can safely rule out Madness due to the weaves and knowledge LTT imparts to Rand). Something I have been thinking about though - does Lews Therin (during his turning of the Wheel) also hear the voice of Rand? Did the voice of the Dragons Soul Reborn have its share in driving LTT mad? We know most male channelers just go mad via the taint - however in the case of LTT/Rand, their soul is the Champion of the Light, so I posit that for LTT/Rand the madness is typified by their connection to each other, which operates outside of Space and Time but still within the pattern and so has no First Origins. W…

Hello knowledgeable WoT readers, My re-read continues and now I am pushing through TDR. Really enjoyed the pacing so far in this book. Anyway - Rand has just gone AWOL from the Mountains of Mist after making his earthquake, we get a very short POV chapter for Rand (sandwiched between two Perrin PoV's) where Rand talks about being hunted by dogs and becoming the hunter. Its also pretty clear Rand is just Balefiring these dogs like an absolute boss. Its not explicitly stated they are Darkhounds but they are described as muscular with large jaws and standing at least waist high. Are these the first appearance of Darkhounds we see?

I've been thinking this for a while and it's kinda bugging me but unless I misunderstood how circles work Rand seems to be quite special as its shown when Rand is leading a mixed gendered circle he can weave both halves of the source. My understanding is when joining a circle you act as a biological Angrael and add power to the leader of the circle, right? Examples: Cleansing: Rand literally weaves Saidar and channels Saidin at the same time. Sealing: Weaves both halves of the source to close the gap. My guesses: 1) yes Rand is special (not the Dragon but this incarnation as Rand) 2) side …

Hi all, I have been reading some of the forum posts here and I know there’s been threads on this topic already so I’m sorry for revisiting this.. I just finished the last book and I’m actually feeling such profound loss and emotional pain i am overwhelmed… I started reading the series many years ago circa 2000 and I only read part of the series that was out and I have re read the first five or six books a few times since… with the tv series being made I committed to reading all of the books starting over again and they grabbed ahold of me, at times I would read for five or six hours, late into the night, frequently until the sun rises (a…

I'm going to spoil the books all the way to the end, heads up. Also, I have read the theories (or is it accepted fact?) online about Jain's time with Graendal. I'm not sure how well that fits into my whole picture but bear with me. Jordan created a system of archetypes and rules and in general he seems to do a good job following his own rules, with only a few moments in the books that I question. A number of items that feel like inconsistencies to me could be instead used to support a theory regarding the true identity of Jain Farstrider. One warming- I am due a reread and some of the items in my listy-list have become more vague in my memory. I don't ha…

Hey all, I'm just going through a re-read of WoT. Im probably halfway through EotW. Its been over two decades since I read some of the earlier books and the later books I read on release. I'm spurred on to do this by the TV show as I find the adaption differences something to think about. I didn't actively dislike the show although there were some elements that bother me, I would put it around the same sort of quality as Shannara. It's so interesting reading these events with a full perspective on how things turn out and with a full(er) understanding of the world and its actors. The things I have found surprising or enjoyed so far: The talk about pr…

My re-read is progressing well and i'm now maybe 1/3rd through TBH (which I am really, really enjoying right now). We have the weird scene with Rand in the village when he is following Fain: A smiling, bald-headed man in rough clothes laid a slice of meat on a plate held by a woman with a worn face. She was smiling, too, though. She added peas and turnips to the plate and passed it to one of the children lining the table. There were half a dozen children, boys and girls, from nearly grown down to barely tall enough to look over the table. The woman said something, and the girl taking the plate from her laughed. The man started to cut another slice. Sudden…

So obviously we have the epic flicker flicker flicker scene in the great hunt, but i swore when i was listening to the audio books there was a callback to that in either a memory of light or the gathering storm but cannot find it anywhere online or by trying to search through the book. Am I crazy? Or is there another flicker flicker line of sorts?

Maybe it's just me, but in my reread I really picked up on a change in how Mat is written by Sanderson as compared to RJ. My first time through, I was more paying attention to how much or little the overall writing styles would change. I absolutely LOVE how Sanderson writes Mat. He's always been a fantastic character, but Sanderson truly found a way to bring his complete package of character together. Most prominent is his humor. There were so many times in the last few books where I was laughing so hard I nearly cried...Mat describing Min's formal Doomseer clothing: "If this whole Doomseer title did not work out for her, perhaps she could find work as a chandelier. " His…

I started reading the WoT series in 1995. I read the first four or five books that summer and re-read them several times as each new book came out. With the show coming out I decided to delve back in and re-read the first book. But when I saw that they had Rosemund Pike reading the audio book I decided to give that a try. I tend to listen to books to and from work. She. Is. Amazing! She brought the book to life. She acted out the book. She became the characters. It was amazing. I decided to move on to New Spring (never actually got around to reading it) with Michael Kramer and Kate Reading as the narrators. After finishing the first chapter, I must say…

The chapter ends with Thom beginning to tell Mat about a wager he made with a Domani woman. Does anyone know the significance of this? Does it relate to something later in the series or does it reveal something interesting about Thom or maybe Thom is telling Mat this story for a specific reason...?

William B. Yeats eloquently showed about how humankind moved from one age to the next in the Second Coming. Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those wo…

Hello all, So I am really enjoying my first re-read of Wheel of Time. Almost close to finishing EotW. So we know that Wolfbrothers are not from the Age of Legends but are from before the Age of Legends, before the Power had ever been touched (assuming Elyas and others are reliable narrators). What Age do people speculate the Wolfbrothers come from? I suspect the Wolfbrother Ability were from the early ages of man (I think it is Elyas who talks about the Man and the Wolf in their caves) so I took these as prehistoric abilities that have been spun out again because of the necessity of the Pattern. What are everyone's thoughts?

Hi there, I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I have a collection of books 1-3 and 5-11 that I need to unload for financial reasons. Not particularly interested in the eBay or Abe's route, so thought I'd see if anyone here was interested. They're all signed, 1st ed, 1st prints, sealed in plastic, never been read through, and kept away from sunlight... if that even makes a difference! I do have book #4 somewhere, I just have to find it amongst a lot of other things. I think it got packed in the wrong place, so I am not including it as part of the collection. Want them to go to a good home rather than some random person on eBay. I did so…

Dear all, I've just started the Wheel of Time the other week, & I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm part-way through the second book : 'The Great Hunt'. I've heard that there's romance in this series, & -- as a sucker for that stuff myself -- I just wondered when it started. Also, if I have questions as I read, is it O.K. for me to post them here , or is there somewhere else that's more appropriate? -V

When I was first reading the series I had a theory that Fain was being groomed to become the literal Dark One, or at least his living vessel. That the Dark One would literally take his body and sould an Rand and the DO, using Fain's body would have an Epic battle, with Rand being the Creator in human form and Fain being the DO.
