  1. Started by A Rant Lord,

A lot of speculation has been going on, as well as on this forum, as in the books. The eye of the world, what is (was) it's true purpose? Some theories say it's to give Rand a buffer (Gold veines), some say it is to destroy/repair the seals. Now, I'm not sure if this has been theorized, but what if, the AOL AS knew Rand would break the seal as HF said: Clear the rubble before you build? Perhaps the EOTW's purpose was to lend Rand the strength to survive TG, to fight the dreadlords after the DO has been sealed, to fight Fain after they (together) sealed the DO. Many theory states that the EOTW was there to help in the final battle. What if the EOTW was created to help the …

  2. Started by Mowbray,

I have read through WoT, but there are some things that make me wonder. For instance, it's nearly impossible for Rand or Nynaeve to kill all the remaining Forsaken on their own. Logain, most likely, will be involved in Taim angle. Narishma and Flinn will be involved in Black Tower mess. Egwene will be involved in an angle with Rand, Gawyn and the resurrected Mesaana. In that case, Demandred, Graaendal, Cyndane, Moridin and Moghedien will be left uncontested, lest for Rand and Nynaeve. Apart from that, there are other angles that have to be handled, such as red-sails, the rebel Seanchan, red-veiled Aiel, the retreated Shaido, the dissent in Borderlands and like. These, I t…

Min always sees the FUTURE right? Well in a Winter's Heart, she sees a million images surrounding Birgitte - doesn't think mean she will still be spun back into the wheel, and will still be linked to Gaidal Cain? I seemed to think that this was in question from the reading - maybe I'm just now seeing the obvious...

Hi, this has been brought up in so many other threads but i couldn't find one that argued it out . I got this idea from the three oaths thread, but it seemed a bit off topic there. Thinking about the scene with Androl where he imprints GUARD, DEFEND, PROTECT, on the bracer seemed to indicate a major change within the Asha'men. Added to Grady's comments about the lack of taint and I got wondering what people think of these two main issues. First will the Asha'men take three oaths? Should they, and what would they be? Here's my guesses: GUARD against the shadow, or possibly GUARD the bore. DEFEND the dragon peace, or possibly DEFEND the helpless/unarmed. …

The most notorious prophecy states for Rand that 'To Live, You Must Die'. We assume this is his death, along with the 'his blood on the slopes of dragonmount' (if anyone can post the prophecy itself that's be great because I can't remember it all and dont have the books with me). Any chance he's already had his 'death' in the kind of rebirth that he had on Dragonmount in ToM?

Hi, everyone This is a question that has always bugged me. I am not a fantasy fan, so i always thought may be my inexperience with genre is behind my infatuation but as a fantasy fan, which am sure most of you are what made you like these books so much. What I like about these books are the human characters. They are so real, I mean they are super heroes and super villains but still they are humans they have so many shades of greys. Everything is not blck or white. I mean look at Rand we all love him but he has his quirks. His strength, weaknesses and his love quadrilaterals and even our super girls. I mean Min and Elayne are very strong women but they are willing to p…

They all share the title of being a pain in the butt to the main characters, a bore in their foot, mostly towards Rand and Perrin, Mat have certainly been lucky to not have to deal with over-suspicios or over-fanatic alies/enemys, (exept his wife, who is a bit fanatic), Dagar became insane after watching Rand fighting Ishamael in Falme (and in Fal Dera), and the rest of his life he lived as a falce prophet to the Dragon Reborn, and led a terrible regime of suspician and fanaticisme. Jaret Byar have been a bore in Perrins foot for 11 books, or Perrin have been a bore in Jarets spine, that dipends on where you look, the other two-rivers have not experianced Byar, …

  10. Just curious, if anyone else got a little confused while reading Ch 9/Decision on The Shadow Rising. Normally a chapter is written by a certain persons POV, I know sometimes there is a switch of POV within the chapters but usually it is very defined, end of one and new paragraph starts off a new POV. However, I don't know if it was cause I was up really late reading or my battle with my head cold, but when I began reading this chapter I thought I was reading from Matt's POV then suddenly it seemed to be Perrin and just as suddenly Egwene, then maybe Elayne until it ended up Rand.

  11. Started by Mowbray,

I am rereading the WoT series for the sixth time, and I have read LoTR for about 12 times. I can't help seeing similarities in the series' plots. Padan Fain, according to me, sounds more like Gollum, who is after Rand, Gollum's "Baggins". In the end, Tolkien twists the angle, making Gollum succeed in getting the ring and Frodo in getting rid of it. This ending makes me think of WoT as well. I feel Fain will get rid of Rand in TG, and will, in turn, somehow, end DO's victory-chances. Moreover, Lan's assault at Tarwin's Gap sounds more like Aragorn's last assault on Mordor. Both are desperate, both are aimed to divert the enemy's attention from the main plot, both of the…

  12. Started by Bromo Sapien,

I'm currently in the middle of a reread of the series and just got to the start of the Big Ass Ending of tFoH. When I was reading the part when Moiraine pushes Lanfear into the doorframe ter'angreal, I noticed that Moiraine ended up with the acrobat bracelet angreal when she pushed Lanfear in. But then in ToM, she explicitly says that she asked the Finn for it. Why would she ask for a bracelet she already had? Why would she have to have the Finn place it on her? The doorframe doesn't take you directly to the Finn, just into the Tower of Ghenjei. She would have more than enough time (and more than enough reason with Lanfear there) to put it on herself. T…

  13. 1 In TOM, in 'A Storm of The Light', Rands awesome obliteration of the massive Trolloc army is seen through RODEL'S eyes...how did HE know what 'Deathgates' and 'Blossoms of Fire' are?? 2 In Book 13, TOM, the use of 'Dreamspikes' was very cool and matrixy, and seemed very Sandersonesque, but also seemed a bit sudden and Deus Ex Machina...so, my question is: is the term 'Dreamspike' even MENTIONED even once anywhere in the previous twelve novels? 3 In Book 3, 'The Dragon is Reborn', Rand rather cavalierly lops the head off a woman - a WOMAN! - and we never hear another word about it. Seems so contradictory to his series-long freaking out over the mere idea of even …

  15. Just wondering this today in an idle moment, thinking about how the Oath says: "To speak no word that is not true." Yet we've been told before that Aes Sedai can't write lies anymore than they can speak them - even though writing is not actually specified in the Oath. Following this logic, isn't using the Mirror of Mists - a weave which is bascially one big visual lie - contradictory to the Oaths? In spirit, I'd say certainly. Just trying to get a fun debate going

Is it possible that Jeret Byar was a Darkfriend? He always seemed to be a little too dark to be to be a follower of the light. Some people I've talked to say that the fact that he found the Hand of the Light hanging children on Almoth Plain to wrong means he can't be a darkfriend, but I feel that even a darkfriend could find murdering children to be wrong. Lets look at everything he's done.... 1; He lied to Dain Bornhold about how his father died, blaming it on Perrin. 2; He tried to get Perrin and Egwene to escape custody in EOTW, so he could kill them. 3; He tries to kill Perrin in TOM, but is stopped by Dain Bornhold. To me, he just seem…

The horn of valare thread got me thinking: what exactly was the reasoning behind creating a giant well of clean saidin? Everyone involved died in the process, and the feat seem to have very little real impact. I imagine the horn (or banner, or seal) could have been protected in much the same way as the sword that is not a sword, so that purpose must have been secondary. Those who made it had to know that there wouldn't be enough there to do anything entirely earth shattering: Rand briefly rained death on some trollocs and took a single swing of power-sword at Ishy, granted it was after Aringor stole some. (Which leads to the question: why would a forsaken want to…

In A Visit from Verin Sedai, Verin says something interesting: "The Chosen are predictable, but the Great Lord is anything but. Even after decades of study, I can't be certain exactly what he wants or why he wants it. I only know that this battle isn't being fought the way that al'Thor assumes it will be." This got me thinking A) What is the true battle the Dark One is fighting, B) why is it fought this way (and not a traditional way), C) what does this imply about the Dark One's motivations, and D) what is the nature of the Dark One's prison. Here are my theories. A) It seems obvious to me that the "Last Battle" is irrelevant. In my opinion, the most important b…

  22. Thom: Mat. I want to make a wager with you. Mat: Now Thom, you should know my luck by now. Thom: Yes I do. I still want to bet with you. Mat: Ok. Name the bet and the stakes. Thom: I want your stake to be that bloody good hat of yours. Mat: Then your stake will have to be that twangy harp of yours. Thom: HUMPH! Well, you recall when we first met in the Two Rivers. Mat: Sure Thom. I'm not senile yet like...uh...Yeah. I remember. Thom: When we rode out there were Moiraine and Lan, Egwene, you, Perrin and Rand and me. Then Nynaeve met up with us later. Mat: Yep. We met Loial too. What about it. Don't forget Bela was with us. Thom: Well, Moir…

  23. Mangin's death. And, it bums me out a little more every time I read it - which I have reread recently, hence this post. ... I think three reasons exists for this on my part: 1 Jordan planted lots of ''hooks'' regarding Rand's friendship with this young man in previous books. 2 Mangin WAS likable. I disagreed with Rand that his personality was ''like Mat's'' but I DID think he was funny. 3 It was just another in a long list of SUCKY things to happen to The Dragon Reborn and further isolate and harden him. It made me really sad when Rand thinks to himself that he has no time for new friends. Also, just regular friendships are so rare in WOT, and Mangin was o…

  24. Started by Luckers,

So, I've been looking at the Dark Prophecy, and wondering if it might not refer in large to events originally set out for aMoL (as in tGS/TofM/aMoL). Consider: Always interpreted to just refer to her attaining her freedom, but consider that the Daughter of the Night could be said to walk 'again', now... as Cyndane. Generic goading, or a warning that her 'please help me Rand' in the epilogue of TofM was false? . So, the first two bits probably stand stronger as referring to Lanfear attaining her freedom, instead of Cyndane living again--until here. If this is foretelling, and its infered by Moridin that the Shadow's Prophecies are foretellings--then …

I just did some quick figuring of dates and by my calculations the current year in randland is 999 NE exactly. Maybe. (Hey, I'm an artist, my maths are sometimes wonky). There was a snippit of some guy's journal at the end of The Gathering Storm where it says it was written in 1000 NE, talking about the supernatural and end time events going on in Randland. (I'd reference it, but I'm at work, and need to get this posted before my boss notices). Is that the year is exactly 1000 of any significance? I know that the start of the AB era as well as the end was both sort of arbritary so it couldnt be that it was a specific number of years after the Breaking, and the same is…

Each cage match includes impressive art and a write-up of how we think the fight might go. The actual results are determined via polls, in which all of you get to vote, and hold threads in which everyone can discuss the fight. Head on over and check it out! When Elayne goes after the Darkfriend lair towards the end of KoD she is struck by a (bear with me, again, I'm at work) type of energy emited by a curved metal rod held by one of the Black Ajah sisters they hadent accounted for. The weapon aparently ahd several settings, what we saw apparently was a "stun" setting, though I believe it was said the weapon had lethal capibility even up to extended ranges of several hundred meters. Sounds like a military weapon to me, I have to wonder if it was one of the rarely mentioned and never actualy described shocklances. During the War of the Shadow the Light was able to mount armies of soldiers armed with shocklances and eve…

  29. Ok people wake up time We have all along discussed what will be the fate of Aiel. Lot of production have been made of the fact that remnants of remnant will be saved. what everyone tends to forget is the fact that Aiel and their ancient covenant. In my humble opinion avi's children are going to restart the covenant. Remember they are also called children of the dragon. So when AOL returns everyone would have forgotten that why they are called children of the dragon. Also remember that foretelling was made by Aes sedai who very much knew about the covenant and by saving remnant they could not possibly have meant these violent people who did not remember the covenant.
