Which evil bad dude (or dudette) do you think has done the most evil for their side, intentionally or otherwise? My money is on the most pathetic member of the Black Ajah, the very first one we meet, Liandrin. While her evilness is very limited in numbers, her one great act seriously messed up the Good Guys long term. When she brought the Supergirls out of the Tower in tGH, she left an Elayne-shaped void for Morgase to find when she visited. Morgase was so pissed that she refused Elaida to come back to Andor with her. Now you see where I'm going with this. No Elaida to manipulate/ conspire/ be a bitch = no Great Schism and when I think of bad times for the Light that…

  2. You've all thought about it (and you, saying you haven't, you're lying). . .what would it be like to be able to channel? What weaves would add the most to your day-to-day life life here in the First Age? My vote: I want to ward my neighbor's apartment against eavesdropping so I don't have to listen to him practice keyboard all day and all night. Well? Fess up, and keep it PG-13.

I was doing a re-read and noticed that Thom mentions Moiraine being Taringail's youngest half sister. That would of course mean that she's related to Elayne, Gawyn, and Galad. I haven't seen this brought up anywhere else in the books but it is interesting. Aside from the whole Tigraine being Rand's mother and all it's one more reason the Andoran Royal Family is important to the final battle. Also interesting is why nobody seems to have political enmity towards her. She's closely related to the Cairhienin Royal Family at the time of the Aiel War, and a very powerful family afterwards; and the Andoran line. Why haven't there been more attempts on her life or at least to tak…

since i started reading this series back in 1995 after i finished the shadow rising i always thought and equated rand to a metallica song of this title; the frayed ends of sanity. i have yet to read a book that has changed that opinion, and i have read closely, and more than once every book that has came out since. so now i must recommend that those who purvey this site listen to the lyrics of said song. it only got stronger to me as he got more and more insane, but the next track on that same album is "to live is to die" and with the recent books it makes me crap myself.

It's no mystery that the most common complaint with book 1 was the incredibly slow beginning, and it got me wondering... I would like to say that it was a near perfect book, but I am wondering if it would have been better if the beginning had been written differently or if it set the stage for the grand adventure that took place. I would like to hear your opinions :)

In the Wheel of Time world we have just about every type of people represented; there are Blacks, Whites, what appear to be Spaniards and Asians (Tear), and even Arab (sort of, more north African with the Fezs worn by Tanchicans). There have also been implied homosexual relations. Two things missing (or maybe one) are people with disabilities. There are no hunchbacks, club feet, mentally challenged or otherwise developmentally disabled people. I realize it wouldn't aid the story along too much but why couldn't someone have a cousin who had down syndrome. Or a begger who had a cleft lip. I apologize if this sounds tongue in cheek, or offensive but for a world as rich as th…

sha’rah is a game that ishy (moridin at the time) was playing with, noticing that the main character in the game is holding his side, and wondering if maybe the game was an echo of a previous turn of the wheel. those who are in charge say that the land of shara will have nothing to do with the last battle, but what does this game mean. years ago i thought that perhaps the real last battle would take place in shara, with rand the pawn as it were. but i know that isn't to be now, and have for quite some time. but what does sha’rah and moridin's speculation mean?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I felt enraged after doing a re-read of ToM, particulary chapter 27, which led me to the creation of a Dragonmount account. I've never liked Egwene as a character, but I never really disliked her, until I read her blatant lies to the leaders of Tear and Illan, and her justifications. Here Darlin agrees to send a delegation to the FoM, but due to the close proximity of the Seanchan he is reluctant to send all his men. Andor is considered a cushion nation now? If anything, Andor is the most cushioned nation as Illian, Ghealdan, and Murandy hold the Seanchan at bay, Carhienen the Aiel at bay, and the Borderlands the Shado…

alright this is going to be confusing because i can not remember all of the names fully. SO here is my idea. I remember that there is a boat captian who marries one of the seanchan high blood. He then is treated as one of high blood or so my memory serves. this leads me to believe that mats mariage to fortuna gives him right to the crystal throne and there for say if she were to be captured and removed mat would have the only claim to the throne. and if he were to be emperor rand would bow before the crystal throne willingly for peace. comment ideas? am i totaly wrong let me know.

suspicious... we see her get a terangreal she can't study with weaves and next thing you know she has made some imperfect replicas?! how did she study it? how can she know anything about it? I let this slip the first time I read the last book, but I just realized, that this is not a leap of faith, it is the book going illogical. Until now there was a rhyme and reason to all that happened and each person for the most part acted within the laws of the universe. with the the exception of a few things, most of them DO's minions abilities... but at least RJ apologized for it at the beginning of the series when he described the ability of the Fades to travel, and even the …

  12. I am not sure if this is the right section or not. This thread is to discuss parallels and/or similarities between both series. Several notes before I begin:: -Some things in either series might not have a thing to correspond to the other. -All of my upcoming comments are merely speculation. I am not sure if Robert Jordan had any of the things in mind when writing about them. Now I will begin. About creatures: -Ogier are kind of similar to Ents; both have a motto of not being hasty and both can cause considerable damage when angry. -Trollocs are kind of similar to Trolls; Trollocs look similar to Ogier and Trolls look similar to Ents, both serve the…

Been a while...anywhoosle... I was reading about the Eye of the World, graphic novel and wondered if that would be an acceptable outlet for new WOT content. I've read quite a few post of people wanting prequels and new stories after the LB. I think its a good idea. Sure it is a totally different media but I've read some of the Dark Tower "prequel" graphic novels and they really added to the story. What Didgya think?

    1. Post the name of the WoT character who is the author 2. Post the title of the book that they would write, if they were so inclined to write that book specifically about another WoT character 3. The follow up post must guess as to who that book was written for, then post one for themselves _________________________________ Author: Thom Merrilin Book Title: "Romancing The Stone"

Ok, since everyone has played (relatively) nice since the other Egwene thread got locked, I decided to honour a request by Leyrann for a new one. I'm not going to lie though, this thread will be held to higher standards than your average thread, so play nice. Anything remotely close to personal attacks will be deleted--and that goes either way, to those who hate Egwene or the Aes Sedai and those protecting them. Swearing will not be tolerated, and try for something a little more constructive and specific than 'omg she's such a douche!' 'no she's not!' 'yes she is!'

I'm not sure if I'm reading too much into this but I can't avoid seeing similarities between the Seanchan invasion and the Israel/Palestine conflict. If it was meant to be an analogy It seems like RJ weren't as hardcore Zionist as I imagine US soldiers to be Ok, so here are some of the similarities I've noticed - The return - They claim to have some ancient right to the land - They improve the standard of living for the inhabitants while taking the few right they had away - Their culture are more advanced and they have greater military power - (This one might be far fetched) their colors are red, yellow and blue. It made me think of the American …

My time is coming to an end.... You have one question to ask. One question only. Once you hear the answer you die. There is nothing else to life. You don't exist. You get one question and one question only. You get one answer and one answer only. Of course this is a WoT realated....so.. What do you ask? You ask. You get an answer. You die. So......what would it be? Me: I have seen relations to norse mythology, to the Lord of the Rings, to various chinese cultural monsters and also to such references like Shirlock Holmes, so RJ...after it is all said and done, after the last page is read and we have all discussed the Fisher King to the Warder's …

Ok, so while rereading the ToM for the nth time I was noticing that Rand was handed a sealed with red wax letter when visiting the WT, Galad was mentioned putting a similar letter in his pocket, Alana left a letter in her room, and we know Mat had one given by Verin. So do you think all of these are from Verin or are they all from someone else? What does everyone think is in the letters Rand, Galad, and Alana say/said? We know what Matt's has for contents. I haven't been able to find out any other information on these and would appreciate some ideas.

  22. I am just curious and decided to toss this out there. What started you into fantasy and ultimately into the Wheel of Time? Here is my story (short form): I was very young, like 8'ish and I saw a cartoon on Lord of the Rings. I was absolutely captivated. That is where it started for me. After that I found out my older brother had played this game called Dungeons and Dragons. He didn't play with me but told me a bit, so I basically made up my own version and played with a couple friends. We had some epic adventures for really not even knowing how to play and only a minimal knowledge of the types of people/bad guys in the D&D world. About 3 or so years later …

However that didn't happen and so it was a temporary seal. My question is this. What do ppl think the last battle will amount to how will Rand win and what do you think the stratagy will be?

  25. Ever since Gawyn went all nutty with supporting Elaida and psycho-hating Rand, I've sincerely disliked him. At first I just thought it was because Rand is my favorite character and Gawyn is his most constant (and unfair) detractor. Today, though, I was thinking about Gawyn's epiphany in ToM and realized that it all boils down to his function as a foil for Rand. For all of Rand's issues external and internal, the one constant of his character is that he always puts the needs of the many above the needs of himself, even when he really shouldn't- perhaps especially then. Even as Darth Rand, every awful thing he did was driven by a belief that it was the only way to achie…

In ToM ch.30 "Men Dream Here" Hopper says that all souls connect/come to TAR as "all connected to here" (which might be how Rand's mother was there at the end of tEotW and explains how DO can poses any dead soul if he wants to). Interesting that DO has access to all the dead, so it comes to reason that he has real and tangible connection to TAR, even now while in prison. Another part of the same chapter has Perrin see in TAR the storm that seems to be representing DO directly and the shadow of Rand (those he is not dreaming). We know that Rand is connected (kind of) to DO through Moridin link, so again DO presence in TAR seems to be evident. In addition, the storm an…
