I just started TGS on my first re-read & I realized how much Jordan had turned us all into one of the very people we were supposed to laugh at! The Cairhienin are the best at Daes Dae'mar, and I now see how much I've been dissecting almost every sentence in RJ's books for hidden meanings, hints, "I wonder what she really meant by that?", etc. We all have, as is evidenced by the very existence of this site. The first time I read the series I wanted to avoid spoilers, so I didn't use any online resources. But in this read-through, I've constantly had tabs open to encyclopaedia-wot, wot.wikia, 13depository & Leighs Re-Read. By LOC I started keeping flow-ch…

Here's the scoop. I read The Eye of the World, probably in 1994 maybe? Hell it was sometime in between 1993 and 1996. Anyway, Im not sure when I read the rest but I read the rest of the ones that had been finished over the next couple years. I then read each new book as it came out, when it came out. Not sure why, MARRIAGE KIDS JOBS LIFE, whatever. I stopped at book 10 I guess 5 years ago MAYBE. Just read book 11. And its great of course. I had forgotten just how great. Nothing unusual. At this point, after having been reading many other fantasy authors, I have Jordan pegged as best author EVER, and probably Demi-God status. Half God. I dunno, something like Achilles. May…

The craziest thing just happened to me. I went out to eat with a friend, and afterward she wanted a cookie, but not the ghetto Sam's Club cookies available at the bagel shop. So we walked up to Mrs. Fields (a store which sells extremely delicious cookies) only to find it had closed down at some point. No more Mrs. Fields cookies. We were wandering back towards work, had made it about a half a block... I was working on googling "cookies" + the zip code, when up the street walks these two guys with this HUGE tray of cookies. My friend said "No way! We were just looking for you guys!" and one guy responds "Do you want a cookie?" And we had some cookies. T…

So, Brandon just Twitted the following: It seems Theoryland have a head start on us, but they're a bunch of weaklings, we should be able to take them Let's do this thing! PS As of right now, the theories I've seen put forward are Mat's luck and the 13x13 trick, though apparently Egwene's testing was in chapter 22... Also, Lanfear's confrontation with Ishamael, or something about Darkhounds.

for those that know the ending to Harry Potter series, how similar do you think the WoT ending will be to that? I know overall it won't be, but the aspect of Rand dying then coming back to save the day and the whole link to Moridin is similar to Harry and Voldemorts situation. And no I'm not saying one author was basing their ending off that but just wondering what people think about how similar it might be with that

This is not a theory, just an idea basing on the mythological references, which could reconcile some of theories and standpoints on Rand’s death. Warning!!! Contains TGS spoiler!!! It seems that threefold death is quite common a theme in European mythology. Examples of this are a king-hero Cormac Mac Airt (who is one of the many figures we can find in Rand, due to the 13 Depository) and Cu Chulainn, both from Irish myths. There are 2 ways that this can happen to a hero: he can either die 3 times by 3 different factors in sequence (separate events), or he can die by them simultaneously. And those are: air, water and wounding. Cu Chulainn died by drowning (ai…

A couple of things. What with the Dreamspike having been in place, I can only see two ways to do it. 1. Offsite rituals via True Power gateway kidnappings, where the Ashaman is taken to the Blight fortress or elsewhere. 2. Onsite rituals. The first one seems highly unlikely, unless either Moridin was snagging Ashaman himself, or if Taim or Demandred had True Power access. the second though, I think that seems more likely the case, but that means Myrdraal are at least frequently at the Black Tower. Now I cant see Myrdraal walking through the front gates, nor can I see them being shipped in with wagons or whatever. I cant help thinking True Power gateways a…

I remember a very recent thread about this, but I can't find it (maybe it was just the Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer thread), so I start a new one. I'd like to post my own theory here, and then we all go have some fine discussion, lol. At first, it looks obvious. When you go channeling, your age increases slower (and, of course, stronger channeling makes a greater difference). But it seems not to be the case. Sharina is becoming younger. And do men live longer than women, because they are stronger? Also not likely. For this second part, I think I remember a quote (maybe someone could help me and post it, if it exists) that men start slowing at a later…

Just something I noticed while re-reading book 6 last night, but two of Min's viewings were wrong. Or it could have just been an author's mistake because they were mixed up actually. But if it wasn't a mistake, can Min really be wrong? Anyhow, the viewings I am talking about are concerning the High Lord's Maringil, and Meilan. This is immediately after Rand flee's from the Salidar embassy when they turn up unexpectedly with 7 Aes Sedai, not the 3 Rand stipulated, and he went to Cairhein with Min. Min views them and says "Maringil, white-haired and blade-slim and cool as ice, was going to die by the knife" "Meilan, with his pointed beard and oily voice, would die …

I'm currently doing a reread of the series and am almost done with CoT. In chapter 28 A Cluster of Rosebuds, Mat mentions that the High Lady Suroth had made an alliance with someone powerful that would give the Seachan access to many lands. Anyone else think this is Demandred under the guise of King Roedran?

I have been thinking about this for a while now and i still don understand why Jordan had too put Rand's threesome into this story. Now to be clear i'm not complaining im just wondering. Is there a special reason, like Ta'veren, beacuse it will help him somehow through out the story? Was it for laughs and giggles? sure I have been finding it amusing so far, but still puzzlied.... Maybe i have been missing something while reading, dont know. So i want to know if you guys have any facts or thoughts about it. Would be really nice to see what you all think.

Concerning the large darkhound pack that circled Perrin's camp in COT, the general consensus has been that it was Slayer who was leading it. However, I think this is wrong. Slayer cannot use the one power. The description of the darkhound pack was that it circled the camp, and Perrin notes that it came and left via gateway due to his description of the damage: This suggests that Slayer was not the one leading the Darkhound pack (at least not alone). However this is well before TOM where Grendal decides to take interest in Perrin. But in TOM when she confronts Moridin after the Balefire of Nattin's Barrow, she seems to already know where Perrin is. How could…

ToM glossary states: Thirteen fortresses of unpolished black marble located in Imfaral, Seanchan. At the time of the Consolidation of Seanchan, it was the center of military might. The final battle of the Consolidation took place there, leaving Hawkwing's descendants in power. Since that time, it has been unoccupied. Legend has it that in time of dire need, the Imperial family will return to the Towers of Midnight and "right that which is wrong." 1.)Why thirteen? Does thirteen have any reference to the thirteen chosen? 2.)Could it be the compliment to the white tower from another age; perhaps the AoL? 3.)Why black? Is there any relation to Black Tower under current…

Hi all, I've just started posting, so please try to be nice, yet rip me anew new one if its needed. Lots of people have been theorising that the weakness in Callandor will allow for a way for Moridin so steal it from Rand in one way or another, you could even include the bodyswap with this, so i was thinking of ways for our hero to get around being faced with Callandor in the hands of his nemesis. Using a bit of logic i managed to come up with a solution, hear me out please. The OP turns the wheel which weaves the pattern, of this we know, and channellers are able to manipulate the OP. The OP if the life force of the universe, therefore everything must have a link to i…

Thread inspired by Spoke's, below. Why would we think that women aged somewhere between 50 and 300 years could get pregnant, just because their faces don't show their age? Is there something I have missed in the text that indicates that working with the power would have this effect? I mean, I first thought that Suian's stilling and new youthful appearance meant that Gareth Byrne was wrong about it being, "too late for House Byrne" but then I talked myself out of it. Suian's over 50 no matter what her face looks like.

I just realized how awesome Gateways are as a weapon and I don't think we have even scratched the surface of their potential use in battle. A channeler may not be able to throw a fireball a mile, but they can open a gateway right in front of the enemy and throw some through. Mat's Dragons could be used on multiple battlefields at the same time. What about opening a gateway parallel to the ground? Mat's Dragons firing straight down into the enemy. Your enemy sets up a shield of Air, just open a gateway on the other side and throw some lightning at them. My best idea was to have a large circle formed, then let the Trollocs charge and open a giant Gateway, 10 feet wide…

I'm betting a good majority of fans on here believe that Rand will die at some point in AMoL. That being said, how do you all think he's gonna die and by who? I honestly can't decide if it'll be by Moridin or Demandred. Demandred seems the most ambitious to do the job but I almost feel like it's gonna be ended by Moridin

So, in a recent re-read (the last book, i think) Grady asks Perrin to go back to the Black Tower to see his wife and kid. He makes a note of saying the kid is ugly. We already know Olver isn't Gaidal Cain, reborn, but what about Grady's kid? (Gadren Grady) Though while I personally, feel its kinda late for him to be of any use to the story, it just seems not right, that we have Birgitte and no Gaidal Cain in the story in some way. Maybe Andol and the un-turned aes sedai he has with them, plus the women and children from the Tower and escape to Camelyn and Birgitte recognizes him.... Thoughts and opinions anyone?

In the chapter court of the sun in ToM Aviendha sees through the eyes of her daughter when the aiel decide to go to war with the seanchan (17 years after the last battle). Padra (aviendhas daughter) thinks to her self that her mother gained great ji in battle but aviendha herself is nowhere to be seen. Later in the chapter she sees through her grandaughters eyes who is in the court of the andoran queen (who also has the blood of the dragon) and again elayne is nowhere in evidance. Were are aviendha and elayne everythink points to them being dead. They can both channel so they should have lifespans of hundreds of years so if they are dead they did not die naturally. Of cou…

If balefire kills a soul forever why was the shadow trying to court rand instead of just blasting him with balefire Ishy/Moridin had plenty of chances plus darshiva (a forsaken) accuily saves rand in CoS.My point is is that moridin admits in TGS that there will be nothing left if the dark one wins no eternitys just nothingness so if the dragon is the dark ones foe through all the ages why not just do away with him once and for all and be certain of victory. What does he need rand for if everythings going to end anyway? Thoughts please...........

I'm not sure if this has been thought of before, haven't read it so far, but not really reading a lot lately... Mind you, had a couple of beers already so if this is completely insane, please let me know. Now, I take it all who read this are familiar with the draw/win/turning of the dragon theories. I would like to begin with the first peace of knowledge directly in front of our noes: The forsaken are all afraid to use balefire. Why is this so? I think they fear destroying the world they will become masters off. Now, why, when the dragon turns sides the battle ends in a draw? Because the dragon would be Nae'blis and would actually WANT to rule the world, whereas t…

Just a disclaimer: I'm halfway thru book 11. I just finished the part where a trolloc army attacks Rand at some village, and he and Logain and the others kill them all.(SUCH A GREAT PART. Especially sinse theres been VERY LITTLE action in this book sinse it opened with Galad killing Eamon Valda: hope I spelled those right) And I've learned my lessons about GOOGLING for answers. Several times Ive learned things that havent happened in the series yet, so please try to answer without giving too much away. Also googling for answers isnt as interesting as asking the forum. Now this chapter is the first Ive read of Rand(I think). And considering the last time I read the se…

Ok, you all know how this works. I want to bounce idea's off of you. Firstly, we're going to presume that Lanfear and Cyndane are the same soul. Ok, Moiraine told us in Towers that regardless of the force of their intrusion into Finnland, the finn's were obligated to maintain the bargain, thus she was allowed to make her 3 requests, and they were required to meet those requirements, presumably as long as they didn't lead to one's freedom. Therefor, Lanfear was allowed, again, presumably, to make her 3 requests. I'm terribly interested in what those might be. Furthermore, I'd love to know if she was allowed to keep then as Cyndane, or how that works, with tra…

No one likes Elaida. She's not a likeable person. She's selfish, abusive, power hungry, and near the end... more than a little insane. However, how much of the disasters during her brief rule as Amyrlin are her fault? Eliada was practically raised to power by the Black Ajah. She was, unknowingly, tied to them from the very first moment. All the decrees designed to cause rifts between the Ajahs originated from the Black and made possible only by Elaida's weakness. And another major point, Elaida was tainted by Fain. A taint that grows and spreads over time and causes her to distrust everything and everyone. This is displayed clearly in how she 'simply' disbelieves…

I had never considered this before, but the thought popped into my head. Why weren't there prophecies in the Age of Legends predicting the War of the Shadow or the drilling of the Bore? Presumably Foretelling still existed as a Talent in this Age. So, is there any mention of prophecies made during the Age of Legends?

"Androl had been worrying for weeks now. Ever since Logain had left in the night. Where had he gone? Why had he taken Donalo, Mezar and Welyn---three of the most powerful Dedicated loyal to him---along?" Androl's p.o.v. in ToM p. 682 Later, in "Something Wrong" (p. 818) in T.o.M., Mezar reappears in the BT but he has been turned to the shadow, presumably by the 13/13 trick.
