  2. Started by True Source Creator,

Ok, we all know Wheel of Time has a LOT of storylines, and some of them are pretty minor that we just completely forget about them. But do you ever, without re-reading, happen to remember something that happened and go, like, "Oh yeah! I remember that."? Well, I do. Some of you may have re-read the series so many times that nothing gets lost to you, but there are those like me who haven't read it enough to absorb almost everything in the books. I know I've forgotten quite a few things, which is one reason I'll be re-reading them for my second read through soon. So today I just randomly recalled Sammael and Graendal disguising themselves as two people (I forget thei…

When Graendal is summoned to Moridin shortly after Aran'gar's death, Moridin gives her one Dreamspike, but he tells her there is another one already in use. Obviously this means one of the Forsaken is using it, and at first I was thinking that Moridin gave it to Cyndane, since I knew she would enter Rand's dreams at the end of the book (yeah, I kind of spoiled myself by accident). But then as I came to read about the Dreamspike in the Perrin chapters, I realized that's not what a Dreamspike does. So I connected the dots to what's going on at the Black Tower. The Aes Sedai stationed there, along with the Asha'man, cannot Travel in the Black Tower grounds. So, is the second…

Since it wasn't really resolved in TOM (no Rand POVs), I'm going to assume that he still has the channeling sickness. I have seen a few theories to explain it. The most common is that of it being caused by his link to Moridin when he and Rand crossed balefire. However, upon careful reading of ACOS, I don't think that is the cause. Flinn explains to Samitsu when he heals rand from the Shadar Logoth wound that Samitsu says will kill him, despite anything that she does. Blades - pg 737 of ACOS Later when Rand wakes up he siezes Saidin for the first time: A Crown of Swords - pg 831 Also later when Rand is in Shadar Logoth trying to kill Sammael, but be…

Is there much Deus Ex Machina in the WoT? Don't get my wrong, I loved the books (else why would I spend so much money on buying 13 books), but it's something that I've remarked on while reading them. Consider the Cleansing of the Saidin - the taint created a situation that gave the enemy a clear advantage. However as soon as it became clear, Rand suddenly got an idea, that mysteriously enough, nobody thought of before. Ta'veren abilities are another example that I remarked upon, especially Mat's luck. And of course Rand's sudden transformation on Dragonmount...

Ok so we know he was altered by the Dark One, made into Rands personal stalker. Fain actually has a connection to Rand, we get this confirmed in a Fain PoV where he notes he felt as if he shared that connection with someone else, or something along those lines (Alannas bond to Rand) The thing that bothers me is, how was that connection made, and when? I cant remember it ever being explained. What do you people think about it? Was it Ishamael that done it, in the dream? Was it formed literally just before Rand saw Fain in that village? Thoughts?

Hey. I got to thinking today, that what if what Rand needs to do is to close the Bore with the True Power. The Dark One's own touch would then backlash into his own power. It seemed pretty obvious when I thought of it, so I figure it would be a pretty old theory by now.

Creating a thread specifically for this. Sorry if its a repeat thread. Who here thinks that the foretelling of Rand facing the Amyrlins(Egwene) anger has been fulfilled in ToM?? I personally think that this "confrontation" has/had the potential for soemthing spectacular, so I'm hoping this has yet to happen as it would be a great opportunity missed, IMO. I'm also hoping that the "anger" is a metaphor for something that happens because Egwene gets angry. Instead of us seeing Egwene angry, shouting, frowning or whatever I'd rather that she sits there with no emotion like a "proper" AS, but inside she is seething and creates a plan of action to oppose the Dragon, he "for…

Do we know if this is purely at Rand's birth? or is this related to access to Saidin? I was just rereading tGH and noticed that when Rand, Loial and Hurin are in the reflection world, that Rand finds the tree-signing song familiar. It could have been that it was similar to the one at the Eye of the World, but the text specifically says that it is different. Was Rand subconsciously accessing LTT's memories?

Of any of the songs in Randland, do any of them remind you of folk songs from any culture in the present day? And also Did RJ Ever compose any notes for any of the songs in the Series? Thanks. P.S. (I don't really know if I put this in the right section, I'm really tired.)

A different take on Rand's death(s) occurred to me when reading Terez's FAQ article Blood on the Rocks. I posted some preliminary thoughts in another thread, but here's a more formal write-up. 'Twice to live, and twice to die' is generally thought to mean that Rand will be killed, then resurrected (probably by Nynaeve). Similarly, 'Once the Dragon, for remembrance lost' has usually been thought to refer to Rand's trip through the glass columns in Rhuidean. I think Veins of Gold is a better fit for both lines. I think Rand died--in a sense--atop Dragonmount, and his new outlook and memories are the result of that death/rebirth. 1) VoG is Rand's great mome…

Egwene mentions that she has to find a way around the oaths because when they fight Seachan they need to kill ppl. Siuan says NO! the oaths are what make Aes Sedai Aes Sedai. My natural reaction is NO! An Aes Sedai is servant of all and an Aes Sedai who hides behind the three oaths to mislead people is beyond forgivable. Also I believe that Aes Sedai can try to shield any damane but ultimately they can kill them too so not that big a problem...

Just an intriguing possibility. Could an AS be a rogue DF while keeping the original three oaths? That is, she follows the GLoD but in secret without ever being inducted into the BA? Given that AS can get around a lot of the three oaths via sophistry, I see no reason why not. She would not be able to use the OP to kill except in self-defence, or defence of her warder, or to make weapons for one man, etc. Well, even with those restrictions, she'd still be an useful DF - more useful than a non-channeler. She could also use the OP for many things short of killing. Could she get around the True speech business? Yes, unless she was asked a direct question --. Haven…

Ok, I just finished my re-read of TEotW and have a few questions, thoughts. I checked several placed and could not find them addressed, then again I most probably missed them. The prolog- The prolog was written in the 4th age. How did the author manage so much detail? If they "made it up" we would need to take what is written there with a grain of salt. There are only two people there that know what happened. Could Rand have given the detail before his eventual death? I can see this happeneing if he survives, but if he does not then how was the info passed on? The way it is strucvtured I doubt that Elan Morin Tedronai gave the info. Also, when LT goes an mak…

Greetings, Does anybody know a site or a pdf perhaps that breaks down each book chapter by chapter by POV name that is listed ALL on one page? IE: Chapter 1: Rand, Tam .... Chapter 2: Rand, Perin, Matt As opposed to having each chapter hyperlinked and having to navigate to each page to see who is in the chapter. I'm listening to the audiobooks (again) and want to follow certain threads without having to do much work so I figured the easiest way to do this would be to ask if anyone knew a page / doc such as this? Thanks,

do you think The Wheel of Time could be taught as a college class in universities? If so, what would be taught regarding the series and could it possibly be done with a series so long and extensive? Robert Jordan was a master at storytelling and his work should be explored more so what type of themes or lessons could college professors teach if it was done?

So, in tGH Lanfear was seemingly able to summon Grolm, even from a distance, without being able to see them. She also is seemingly able to control them, as the Grolm that attacked her did not display any signs of being 'held off' by the Power. This could have interesting implications for the Shadow and the Seanchan--who use more usual forms of training. Thoughts?

Brandon Facebook'd that... "I wonder if it would be too spoilery to post a running count of significant named #wot characters who have died so far in #AMoL." Seeing how he is about 36% done with AMOL, this makes me think we are going to have a high bodycount in this book. I wonder who bites the dust?

Everyone is sure there are no Darkfriends in the Kin. I find this ridiculous. 1700 women, and no Darkfriends? There is an average of 1 Darkfriend per 100 people, and, for example, the Aes Sedai have one Darkfriend per 6 people. So why not the Kin? What do you think of this?

prophecies I believe to be linked to the final struggle with teh DO: A glowing sword, Callandor, being gripped in a black hand. "Light is held before the maw of the infinite void, and all that he is can be seized." Dark clouds pushed away by the sunlight's warmth. Rand, a brilliant white sword held in his hand, wielded against one of black, held by a faceless darkness. (I think this is just saying that teh true battle is just beginning or the battle of wills that will happen) •"...and the Blade will bind him by twain." I believe that Rand will use callandor at Shayol Ghul allowing Shai'tan to seize his body and soul. now heres the callandor connection, …

I'm thinking...it has too. We've been told for many years that *intent* the length of time back in the timeline and, most importantly, the STRENGTH of the channeler involved are the most vital elements. But I think there has to be more than that. Hypothetical: Lets just saaaaay - during Lews Therin's time, he and Ilyena are cornered by - three Darkhounds, for example. They make contact with Ilyena - and one even manages to slobber a SINGLE DROP on her BEFORE the BF - but LTT BFs them all. We all know about how dreadful and nasty a DH is. Legend has it they will be driven by The DARK ONE HIMSELF in ''The Last Hunt'' (The Last Battle itself). I am wonder…

Someone pointed out to me on Twitter that this mystery has been kind of left hanging for a long time, and I realized that I hadn't really put any thought into it recently. Certainly I don't recall any particularly convincing theories. But as I thought about it, I realized there are actually three instances at least in LOC that might be seen as attempts to turn Rand against the Aiel, though they were all unsuccessful: 1. In LOC 22, 'Heading South', Vanin discovers the Tinker caravan. Someone with knowledge of the Aiel feeling toward Tinkers might have set this up in Mat's path deliberately, thinking he would blame the Aiel because he knows of their prejudice and becaus…

It occurred to me the other day that if Rand can use portal stones and both he and the forsaken can travel to TAR is it possible that the forsaken can go to other mirrors of the world and gather in shadow spawn and bring them back. Loial brought back his stick if memory serves me and unlike TAR there seem to be no rules regarding bringing anything living or otherwise through a portal stone back to the current world. If this is possible it would explain how the bad guys have been able to create such an incredible horde of shadow spawn to begin TG. Thoughts?

  25. I hope there is space in aMoL for this scene to happen, will Mat actually be able to charm Cadsuane like he did the Aiel Wise Ones? How will she react upon learning first hand that he is even more ill mannered then Rand used to be? Will she be so offended by his brashness that she attempts to teach him a "lesson"? Here is a hypothetical scene of Rand introducing Mat to Cadsuane, with various major characters present: Rand: "Mat, this is Cadsuane Melaidhrin my Adviser" Mat: "Adviser! That sounds bloody like some Aes Sedai telling you how to do everything, does she also teach you to dress, speak, and act like some bloody noble with wool betweens his ears …

Lets start with a quote. Towers of Midnight "Epilogue" Lo, it shall come upon the world that the prison of the Greatest One shall grow weak, like the limbs of those who crafted it. Once again, His glorious cloak shall smother the Pattern of all things, and the Great Lord shall stretch forth His hand to claim what is His. The rebellious nations shall be laid barren, their children caused to weep. There shall be none but Him, and those who have turned their eyes to His majesty. Now I and bunch of other people have been throwing around a theory for a while that the entity that we know as the Dark One is actually just one facet of the whole picture of "evil" and…

Hi all, I've been a longtime lurker, rare poster, but this issue has been nagging me, so I figure I would at least ask everyone's opinion. My problem is the Bore. We know that time in WOT is cyclical, that there are 7 ages that follow roughly the same pattern, though with differences that stop it being the same thing over and over again. For example, we know that Rand will remake the hole in the DO's prison as if it never existed, which will allow someone in the next cycle to piece through it, which will allow the LT-esque person to patch it, etc. My question is, why the Bore in the first place? In the AOL Mierin punches the original notch because she was looking …

  29. Ok, I know this is a useless post because in no story EVER does the bad guy win, and it will probably never happen. But what the F??? The bad guys always have the coolest stuff, and the most powerful people, and somehow bumble their way to grabbing defeat from certain victory. From Skeletor and Mumm-Ra f-ing up the most powerful objects or totally forgetting a spell or something that came close to winning to our very own Moridin not doing things right, they always seem to do the wrong thing at the wrong time. For instance... why, if gholam were used as Aes Sedai hunters in the AoL, did Moridin not send one after Rand instead of Mat? Rand would have no defense... unless ba…
