I was just wondering if anyone else picked up on this or if its obvious or not, but when it gets to the lives of aviendahs closest future relatives Aviendah is not there to judge whether they should start attacking the seanchan. It is like 17 years after the last battle or something and she is not there so I am assuming she died, but how did she have enough time to have four kids, unless she survived the last battle and died during child birth. But all the same when her grandaughter goes to the future queen of andor she said she remembered her face from her grandaughter's perspective. As well as where is Elayne? She would not have died after 40 or 50 years she is a ch…

What do you think would have happened if moiraine didnt die? Do you think her plot ARC would have followed Rand around or she would have gone off solo with Lan trying to do something else, i could imagine her chasing rand down at dumais wells, protecting him at shadar logath(dp) in book 10 but what else could have she done? Also how do you think Cadsuane would have fixed the White tower division? as she talks about it a fair amount but she is too busy with rand. Do you think that Elaida would be able to get away with giving her pennance when she stepped out of line?

What does the link between Rand and Moridin mean? Will they have to face eachother after Rand defeats the DO and they both end up dying or will Moridin do a complete turn around and betray the DO because of the link between them.. And what will become of Cyndane and Moghideian and possibly greandal I could see her being Mindtrapped to Moridin now.. Also kinda off topic but this has to be the most curious thing in the books to me. How did Mearin(Lanfear, Cyndane) end up in Rands dreams is this just another quality of the creator he recieved and will he be able to save his lost love and turn her to the light once again?

Something occurred to me during my most recent read-through that, I tried using search to see if it's been discussed before, but all I saw was some other theory about Dulain in the BUT thread, I haven't seen Siuan's Talent discussed. In Book #1 Siuan mentions that she can see Ta'Veren, indicating this is a talent she knew she had. So this made me wonder how did she discover this talent? As I've continued to read through the series I came up with a theory, I believe the Ta'Veren might have been the border lord in Murandy, Dulain, who the tower had identified as having the potential to unify all of Murandy. Extrapolating something like that because a Lord is a min…

found this to be quite good, at least on a level with (or possibly a little better than) the gathering storm. I was a little surprised so much mileage was given to Perrin STILL struggling to accept the responsibilities of being a leader...I thought he came to terms with that like 7 books ago? also the chronology is funny and alot of these scenes seem to have happened before the end of TGS. one chapter we're seeing Tam hugging Rand in Tear, then next thing ya know he's back with Perrin before Nynaeve even came for him? I guess that was to keep the lengths of the books roughly equal but it still felt a little awkward. other than that I have a slew of questions 1) what d…

...all the books are available? I ask that because I am currently half way through my first read of TSR and I can't stop now. BUT I was wondering if you guys would approach the series differently having all the books laid out in front of me like I do. Perhaps take a break after the first 6 or 8? Idk, right now I plan to devour them as quickly as possible haha.

Does anybody else notice how Amys is always saying that The World of Dreams is the most dangerous thing ever and making metaphors such as "Letting someone not familiar with it wander the World of Dreams is like letting a wetlander baby walk the waste." What exactly is this supreme danger? Yes, I know there are nightmares and other people in Tel'aran'rhiod, but any sensible person would be able to figure out "avoid the evil black things". And nightmares only appear in TAR when it serves the plot or creates drama, so it seems like Amys is over-reacting. Yes, there are wolves there, but they don't kill anything, and Slayer is there, but Amys doesn't know about him. So why is…

In The Gathering Storm when Rand sits down in the dream world with Moridin. As Moridin and Rand are talking, Moridin says, "I could throttle Semirhage for what she did." As in referencing the bond that they shared. We've all thought that the crossing balefire streams was to blame for Rand's sickness and the bond he and Moridin share. Could Semirhage have formed a bond between them in Shadar Logoth?

Okay, so when Egwene, Nyneave and Elayne are in Tear they pose as full sisters, partly so that they will have greater influence with the Lords and Ladies of Tear. Partly because they enjoyed being thought of as full AS. And for other reasons, I'm sure. Then they become friendly with Aviendah, but Egwene can't tell her that she isn't a full sister because the more people that know a secret the greater chance of that secret being revealed. She meets Amys for the first time in TAR, and she introduces herself as Aes Sedai. Fair enough, she is in the Stone, after all, and she couldn't tell Amys she was Accepted at that point... But then they leave the Stone, and a…

I started reading the series way back in the 8th grade, right after the trade paperback, I think that is what the larger paperbacks were called, came out for The Great Hunt. That was 17 or 18 years ago. I reread the series somewhere around '98 and this year I finally sat down to reread the series again since there's only one book left and my new Kindle was just yearning for something to be put on it. It was a really interesting experience. I don't spend much time on here diving into the deepest corners of the world, but this reread has really helped me get a better grip on the story and appreciate it more. The following are my thoughts, maybe you'll enjoy them... …

I'm not sure if maybe I just missed it, but do they ever discuss what one of the Traveling People would do if they discovered a male channeler in their numbers? Would some view gentling as a form of violence? You would consider severing your arm as violence, so why not the connection to the True Source? So what would they do?

I'm only about halfway through the series right now, but I was wondering, is it ever explained why Lews Therin came to be called the Dragon or what the word meant in the WoT universe before it was applied to Lews Therin? In other words, I'm wondering if "Dragon" in the Age of Legends meant dragons as we know them, or whether there's yet another layer of separation between their mythology and ours.

Is a massive troop buildup really necessary? All they need to do is have Mat sit somewhere comfortable, and when there's a battle, Travel him to the right place. Other issues: 1. The DF's are after the horn as well, and need to kill Mat to use it. I assume it takes about 30 seconds for the HotH to appear, so he just needs a token force to protect him from assassins. 2. If those ninnies absolutely must have a bannerman, I guess you could get like 20 channelers, encase the bannerman in an air shield, and levitate him over the battle lines. 3. What sends them away? Just blow the horn all the freaking time. Blow it before bed, after you wake up, during lunc…

I was reading some of BS's blog and how he discusses his magic systems and is kind if known in the Sci/fiction writing community as the "magic system guy". I got to thinking just how many different sources/types of magic there are in the WoT and figured I'd start a thread to discuss them, and wonder if we will ever get to see how they all work (hopefully in the Encyclopedia). There are the three obvious magics in the WoT that we all have a pretty good amount of knowledge into how they work: 1)The One Power - Creater based power, we get lots of description on how it works, Saidin & Saidar, the 5 powers, linking, angreal, etc... 2)The True Power - Dark One base…

Ok so how does a Warder get his cloak? Is there a master cloak maker somewhere who makes these things? How does he qualify for the cloak anyway? Maybe once he is bonded and considered an official Warder he has permission to wear one. Possibly his AS puts in a request somewhere for a cloak for her Warder. I would think with all of the Warders going down in the novels you'd have those who would take the cloak off of the corpse and use it for their own ends. I am also wondering why someone doesn't make a whole set of clothes with the color shifting material? You'd be almost invisible with the hood up, just a face floating around. Insignificant things like this come to …

I know there are some mythological similarities between characters in the WoT universe and Greek and or Roman mythology (and King Arthur and what not). What are some of these? I know the Mat stuff but I heard Galad is compared to some.

This was brought up in another thread and I thought it deserved its own. The one plot so far in WoT I did not like and really thought was out of character (at least in how it ended up) was Aram's. Aram being convinced by Masema that Perrin is a Darkfriend? WtF? I'm rereading KoD right now and I am hoping that on my first read-through I simply missed the signs. I totally did not see this coming and thought it was absolutely out of character for Aram to turn on Perrin. The boy had latched onto Perrin like a dog to his master (okay, that's rather funny when you consider the context). The only thing that I would think might (MIGHT, I say) have turned Aram was that suppose…

TEOTW coincided with a lack of interest in the SFF/F that lasted about 4-5 years for me. I remember enjoying it intensely in 1990 but being disappointed by the brevity of the climactic stand-off. I was 17 at the time. Anyway, I have recently been feeling nostalgic about the early 1990's. I re-read "Heir To The Empire" & that made me think of TEOTW for some reason. I picked "Eye" up two days ago and am about four chapters in. I actually bought a pristine 1990 papberback for .25c! I don't know if I'll read any more of the series. I'm not such a big fan of "fantasy" novels, I really don't read much pose fiction at all. When it comes to this sort of thing I am always…

I apologize in beforhand for any spelling or error. Its my first time writing a topic so it will not look tidy ;) Now to the topic : I would like to catalogue all the answers and gift the characters have gotten from Aelfinn and Eelfinn. I will start : Moiraine to Thom : " A quiet life would kill you, I think... Tanchico will not, however. I guarantee that, and by the first oath, you know it for truth" ( TsR p, 272) Thom later thinks about this and wonders how she knows. We know of course. She asked a question which gave her the answer that Thom will not die if he goes to Tanchico Thus we are left with two questions And two (items?) --------------------------- …

Like most stories, the last battle portion of the last book is likely gonna go like this: set-up, opening blows, period of confidence, turnabout/betrayal, period of dispair/desperation, dawning of realization/going all-in, climax, aftermath. I may off, RJ and BS may supurise me, but it's very likely that there will be some kind of turnabout or betrayal during the 11th hour. Who on the light side (or that we currently presume to be on the light side) do you think is most likely to cause this betrayal?

Alright, I dont really want to turn this into a bashing session, nor an intricate discussion of said persons accomplishments, there are millions of other topics that go into these points. So preferably just a short answer explaining which female character is your least favorite. Example being mine. Egwene- Her attitude towards Rand and Gawyn in ToM. Simple and short, please refrain from debating other posters answers. This is merely opinions, and I am not interested in this topic turning into a "who is better" debate. Just curious to see who is the most hated as of ToM and why. If you disagree, take it to another thread. Moderators, I would be gr…

As discussed in the quote below in another topic, these are the honorary firsts posts I remember reading a thread about funny techniques. The only two I can remember are "Cat Craps in a Sandbox" and "Fat Guy Rushes the Food Bar." I still giggle when I read those....LOL James That's awesome. We need a new thread to make up funny swordfighting technique names. One to drive the ladies crazy: "Man Washes the Dishes"

The Wild Hunt; Darkhound Anomalies The Normal Darkhound In the Dragon Reborn we get introduced to Darkhounds for the first time. Whilst difficult to kill, Lan manages to do so with a sword [tDR;43, Shadowbrothers], and Perrin with a bow [tDR; 44, Hunted]. They normally operate in packs of ten or twelve [CoT; 7, A Blacksmiths Puzzel], and this amount is cited as a limit by Masuri. Two packs loosed near each other will invariably turn on each other [tDR; 44, Hunted], which may also be the reason for the normal size limit on packs. If we can take Masuri, Lan and Moiraine's knowledge as indicative that the above is the norm for Darkhounds, then we have t…

This is a thought I had. The Creator and the Dark One are both actual beings, one opposite the other. The Forsaken (Specifically Nae'blis) are the champions for the Dark One, and in return blessed by the Dark One with the True Power (the essence of the Dark One himself). Now The Dragon (Rand) is supposed to be the champion of the Light and the Creator. So who is to say that the creator hasn't blessed His champion in a similar way that the Dark One did? Who is to say that the new found power that Rand has in Maradon isn't the Creator's version of the True power? It blinded (and drove mad) Darkfriends through walls. And the web of light in Rand's mind could be s…

Why can't the forsaken simply create Angreal's, Ter'angreals and Sa'angreals for their needs? From what i recall they we're pretty powerful Aes Sedais in the age of legends where Angreal's, Ter'angreals and Sa'angreals were plentiful. Elayne can make Ter'angreals and have taught other Aes Sedais how to make them so the issue of not knowing shouldn't be a problem...
