IIRC Rand thought something to the effect of how he had enough power in VoG to destroy the world. My question is, how is this possible? Rand is strong, as was LTT, but neither of them could draw enough of the OP to destroy the world. Case in point, Ishy/Moridin being his virtual equal can not do this; if he could then he'd have done it for the DO already. I hate when writers keep making characters more and more and MORE powerful to the point where they break all their own rules far and away! LTT drew all the OP he could draw and more and what he did was create a small mountain, not annihilate the world. With the access key I can believe this would be 'possibl…

Ok, so have you ever been listening to a song that made you think of a character or a particular scene from the Wheel of Time? Maybe it's just me, but occasionally I'll hear something that strongly evokes a certain character. I'm curious to hear any suggestions. An ad-hoc wheel of time soundtrack if you will, not a film score, although I would die for something like that! 1. Moridin -- Vicarious by Tool This track just feels very Moridin to me. 2. Rand's turning point atop Dragonmount -- Stand Alone by The Cult 3. Lanfear/Cyndane -- #1 Crush by Garbage Umm, yeah.. Very you Mierin... Actually a number of Garbage songs work for her. …

Excluding the horrible Wheel of Time soundtrack CD, what kind of music do you guys associate to the books? It can be music you listen to while youre reading or music you'd like to see in a movie. I'm basically just making this topic because there are some songs by Nightwish that just reek wheel of time to me. "Away" was the first one, I really associate that with Elayne and Nynaeveäs travel from Tanchico to Salidar for same reason. Then there's one called "Walking in the Air", that I feel really fits Tel'aran'rhiod. And also "Forever Yours", which I would call Elayne's theme. I can recommend downloading these songs, they're really beautiful and atmospheric. So if…

Morning Found this in theoryland interview archive: Pretty straight forward. There is nothing that makes this age special. Rand won't kill the Dark One or permanently imprison him or anything of the like. The Dark One won't win either (doh). Seems kinda important since there is a lot of speculation around here that is only possible if this age is special.

Sorry to start another topic in this area, but during a reread I noticed the following interesting thing: Sammael's messenger to Rand was compelled in such a way, that the Forsaken could speak through him and control all his actions (including making him bleed to death apparently). Theory: could Demandred be sitting in an armchair somewhere and controlling Taim 24/7 through a weave similar to what Sammael used? This would corroborate Rand's (or rather his past memory's) aggressive reaction to Taim as he would be using Demandred's voice and/or similar body gestures (since Dem is in control, it would be logical that these would be similar).

So we know that what happens to the body in TAR effects you in real life - example Verin's scar, dying in the dream, you don't wake up, etc... So this begs the question, what if two individuals, got together in TAR, and had sex, could the woman end up being pregnant? If so, could this be what causes the strangeness in Avienda's babies?

I've been thinking about parallels between WoT and Arthurian myths (most are, of course, well known and rather obvious) and it occurred to me that Galad might have some rather interesting role to play based on that. His most obvious parallel is, of course, sir Galahad but I think that he just might have some strange parallel to Mordred and I wonder how that can possibly play out. There are a number of other more obvious Mordreds in WoT, namely, Fain/Mordeth, Moridin and Demandred. Galad would seem to be an extremely unlikely Mordred. However, his last name is Damodred which is similar to Mordred. Moreover, as was recently discussed in another thread, the fact that Galad…

Just a silly question which has little or no consequence to the story AFAIK. Would the souls of the Forsaken become the forsaken ever 2nd age or could it theoretically be possible that every channeler could have been a Forsaken somewhere in a previous/future 2nd & 3rd age?

Apologies if this has been said a lot of times before, but is Olver the reincarnation of Gaidal? Time works differently in The World Of Dreams, and they are both super ugly but attract women. Also, Olver seems to be becoming a warrior, and Gaidal was also one.

WARNING: i could b completely wrong on a few points in this post so feel free to correct me (as if u need my permission to do so) Nynaeve's healing of Siuan and Leane left them considerably weaker in the Power (could sum1 please give an approx. % i would but could b wildly off) but her healing of Logain didnt diminish his strength in the Power. and as i understand it when the Ashaman heals the captured AS(from Dumais Wells) it doesnt diminish their strength, i cant rememebr there being any mention of the captured AS being weaker in the Power once healed. so does that mean that if a man heals a woman they regain full strength and vice versa. i dont think there ar…

as I said in the description, this isn't a will Rand die topic. I'd say around 95% of WoT readers assume he's gonna die at some point in AMoL. My question is, what will his ultimate fate be at the end of it? There are two popular theories I've read: 1. He dies, gets resurrected, saves the world then goes into hiding 2. He dies, gets resurrected, saves the world but then dies in the process and stays dead An interesting RJ quote that Harriet read aloud that RJ said about Rand one time was, "He came like the wind, like the wind touched everything, and like the wind was gone." I believe he was talking about Rand in the broad sense of the series meaning he will no…

Ordinarily I wouldn't think that people have any right to titles held in a previous life, but Rand is a different case, IMO. He is LTT, albeit in a different body. Something I also found ironic in ToM was Rand telling Cadsuane that he is "the only male Aes Sedai still alive who was properly raised," while Egwene was never tested, and as of ToM claims she has no intention of ever taking the test. So who has more right to call themselves Aes Sedai?

so I've read at least several mentions now of how the artwork for the "World of..." was largely unpopular and disliked by fans. that made me curious so my question is, is there any place to see examples of it online? links? or would that be violating some kind of piracy thing (not really sure how that works for books)

Hey everyone, new here and after a bit of browsing I had questions about two events. Avihienda (killed spelling, I know) unwove a gateway that eventually exploded, i think it ended up leaving some disturbance in the area. Is that ever seen or mentioned again? Also when Rand is fighting a forsaken in that old city with that death fog stuff, he almost falls into a pit but is then saved by some unidentified man who Rand thinks looks like him. They then both shoot balefire that touch each other and have some kind of mental shockway. Who was that and what happened? Also sorry for all typing errors, left arm is broken and my blackberry browser has no auto correct…

I've only seen this once in the forums(AMoL)... Egwene's tent was on a rise, and she could overlook the many armies encamped here. "Is that a new one?" she asked, gesturing towards a smaller force that had taken position just below the ruins. "They came on their own," Gawyn said. "Farmers, mostly. Not really a true army; most don't have swords. Pitchforks, wood axes, quarterstaffs. I assume al'Thor sent them. They started wandering in yesterday." "Curious," Egwene said. They seemed a various bunch, with mismatched tents and little understanding of how to set up an army camp. But there did seem to be some five or ten th…

In The Shadow Rising, Slayer is seen entering the TOG. Now that we know what it is like inside, because of Mat, Thom and Noal's rescue of Moiraine, does anyone have any idea what Slayer is going there for? He must have a way of getting out as well, which we all know is not easy. Mat's Ashendarei does not appear to be a very common item. One of my theories is that the veiled creatures at the end of Towers of Midnight are actually the Foxes, somehow lured into Randland to fight for the Shadow. Their pointed teeth are eerily familar to what is described of the Foxes by Mat. Thoughts?

This is just pure speculation on my part, but is it possible that there will no longer be channelers. Robert Jordan has stated that many of the stories that Thom mentions came from before the age of legends are events that have happened here on earth like lenn's flight to the moon. If we are to run the course that the wheel of time is every spinning and repeating cycles, could one speculate that Channeling might for the next age be burned out of people as science becomes dominate? We see that science is on the rise in Randland for example Gun Powder, cannons, Steam engines, etc. Just a thought I was wondering what others think of this?

I'm not going to try and explain who I think the Broken Wolf might be, because I think there have been many words typed on that subject. I've read a lot of the theories, and I'm not entirely sure what's right. What I want to say is that maybe 'destruction' doesn't mean what everyone seems to think it means. Many appear to be interpreting 'And his destruction shall bring...' as meaning 'And his death shall bring...'. They then use that in arguments for why a certain character's death would not be impactful enough. But what if 'And his destruction shall bring...' means 'And the destruction he wreaks shall bring...'? If that's the case then Perrin, or Slayer, or …

I finished the book yesterday (started it yesterday too .. I know, a bit late, but I just graduated: I've been busy) and I've been thinking a bit about it, about the series in general, and also about the upcoming book. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that as well as the rest of this post. So, without further ado... I think The Wheel of Time means something special to anyone who has read every book published (so far). Fantasy, more, perhaps, than other writing, gains a lot of its meaning through breadth: I can't think of a successful (in the literary sense? I'm not sure what I mean) standalone fantasy novel, except perhaps some of Le Guin's writings (Gifts, anyone?).…

I have just read the penultimate-penultimate novel in the series, the first arc of the three-part "A Memory of Light", and like with most Wheel of Time books, I enjoyed it. Sanderson made some noticeable changes in writing style and characterization from Jordan, but the book was coherent and enjoyable, almost as much so as if Jordan himself wrote all of it instead of bits and pieces. Anyways, I noticed it featured some very awesome scenes and it makes Tarmon Gai'don that much more imminent. I somewhat reluctantly now begin "Towers of Midnight" tomorrow, and soon I'll be through my first read of the series, which does have a ring of hollowness to it but also gives me time …

If anything at all, what would the third age be called, like the second age is the Age of Legends. Just curious as to what people would think it were called, since it's never mentioned, and no one else has asked the question as far as I can see.

Vote then tell reasons. Purposely excluded the confirmed dead Forsaken since it is unlikely for them to be resurrected. If you wish, you may speculate on "how" for each one you voted.

I am currently re-reading tEotW for the 3rd or 4th time, and what stood out to me this time is why didn't Lan instruct Rand to cover up the heron mark on Tam's sword (e.g., in Baelorn(sp?)) or at least be weary about wearing it around? The only explanations that come to mind for me are: - Lan thought the Heron mark would discourage trouble makers from starting fights with Rand? - Lan had a lot on his mind right then considering they were being hunted by shadowspawn, and he was contemplating a route through Shadar Logoth, so he just plain forgot To me the first explanation seems most credible, but even if this is the case, why not at least warn Rand about the d…

Sorry if this was done to death, but I read BS' interview where he states he got the biggest criticism on Mat. I see this here and there too around the boards, but I don't really understand why. If there's an ongoing thread about it, a link would be great. Personally, I liked it. Mat was RJ's whipping boy since book 1. He's been cursed, insane, killed (twice), crippled, and blinded (one-and-a-half times.) A wall fell on him, a darkhound spit on him, he was resurrected by balefire, kept as a sex toy, his girlfriend tried to kill him, etc. etc. etc. I'm glad he's getting some scenes where he's not being tortured or the target of an assassin. I heard the argument th…

Hello fellows! To be honest, I've for a while listened on the audio-books illegally, but these books have given me so much pleasure, I've decided to buy all of them. Though I need some advice...I really want to buy these books so close to the author/speaker as possible, as few middle-hands as possible, preferably directly from author. Also, when buying these audio-books, it would be preferable to get the latest updated/corrected ones. I was surprised that web-shop on this site does not sell the books. Maybe there is some other "official" place to get the audio-books? /Johannes EDIT: What does unabridged mean in audiobook-context?

I got to thinking last night that we have maps in the BWB that show how Randland looked in the Compact of the Ten Nations, which is probably the earliest form of what the landmass looked like put down on paper after the breaking. Obviously so little things from the AOL survives that there's no maps of what the landmasses and oceans looked like then. It would be really cool if we could see how the land looks AFTER this age, since we've had a glimpse of names of places in the Fourth Age by some of the writings that show up in the books as flavor texts, and they have similar names to places that we know of now. Does Randland resemble the same landmass after this Second Br…

Here's a list of the different types of prophecies. Which do you think are the best? Which are the worst? 1. Karethon cycle, Jendai prophecy, Seanchan prophecy: all from the same source, AS from the end of the AoL up to the Trolloc Wars. Let's assume that "kneeling to the crystal throne" is a known discrepancy and not included. 2. AS' Fortelling after the Trolloc Wars, including Eladia's, Gitara Moroso, Nicola, and the AS relative of the Borderland king. 3. Dreaming: Dreamwalkers, Wolf Dream, etc. 4. Min's aura visions. 5. Finn answers. 6. Portal stone visions. 7. Ter'angreal visions, either testing for Accepted or Apprentices. 8. Exclusions: Dark Prophecies, w…
