Ok, I have loved everything I have read so far. While some characters piss me off at times I still very much enjoyed reading them. Now today I was accidentally spoiled the whole Elayne, Min, Aviendha and Rand thing. It really weirded me out honestly and made me unsure. So far I have really liked Rand as a character. His progression from farm boy to ruler of Tear the Dragon has been great. I love the magic system, the world and cultures. Now I just want to say I have nothing on the Aiel, they are awesome and are very interesting. I don’t hate Elayne(though I am still early on). Mat is my boy already, Dragon Reborn made me appreciate him a lot more and he has grown on me. T…

We all now know that the Dragon scabbard sword that Rand finds is Justice, the sword of Artur Hawkwing. Outside of it having one helluva good story to tell, does the sword have any other particular importance? I tend to think not, but given the way Rand seems to give it Special significance, I do wonder a bit. We Know this from descriptions in the book: -Power Wrought -Black Scabbard with a red and gold enameled dragon on it -Rand recognized the sword as that of Justice, Artur Hawkwing's sword from tGH Outside of a few mentions in the KC, does this sword do anything special that we know of? Any evidence to say what it does/is needed for? I'm really hoping it…

When did you first know Dashiva was Osan'gar/Aginor? On my initial read through, I didn't really pay much attention to him, especially as the books he's featured in are mostly ACoS, TPoD, and WH, which kind of lost my interest a bit. But in WH we find out Dashiva is really Osan'gar, who was first seen in LoC before Dashiva came to Taim, or Taim to him?, to the Black Tower. And we learn in WH that Osan'gar was really Aginor reincarnated. But now on my second read through, I can see a lot of subtle hints that Dashiva was a Forsaken. In ACoS, we learn that he was pushing Flinn to learn things that most of the Asha'man didn't know how to do, and that's how Flinn (I think …

So I just finished reading my favorite section of the first half of WOT, the truth about the Aiel's past, The Tuathans past and Rand's past. This includes perrin's return to Emonds field via the ways and all the preparations to liberate the two rivers from the Children of the Light and Trollocs. so its a good two hundred pages, and forgive me if i'm a bit jumbled, but as i understand things right now: Shaiel is the Maiden name of Tigraine, who fled Cairhien because Gitara Moroso (who was like the vessel of prophesy for Rands destiny) told her that she must or everything is bust. According to Amys, Shaiel left behind a son, the encyclopedia tells us that it is Gal…

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm nearing the climax of The Dragon Reborn. It seemed that Rand was suddenly just walking through the halls of the Stone of Tear. I guessed I missed this, but how did he get in?

For my part I absoultly love her. I mean she was the first world leader to follow Rand, she did a pretty good job of running Cairhein, and anyone who is so respected by the Aiel can't be all bad. Not to mention that she was the only one who was able avoid capture by the Shaido in WH which isn't exactly small potatos. I do think it is pretty lousy that she chases after a married man but hey, everbody's allowed one mistake. So what does everyone else think of her.

We got very little in the way of hints about Nakomi in AMoL, but their location make this thread full-spoilers by necessity. So, let's have it. Did anyone glean anything about Nakomi that we didn't know before AMoL? PS If you want another poll-option, let me know.

Doing a reread for the first time in many years. Is it just me or does Jordan’s writing style take a big leap forward in TDR? It’s still very much in that first trilogy in tone but the writing seems to incorporate more elements we associate with Jordan’s style, ie very detailed descriptions of settings, clothing, thoughts and actions, etc.

Hi! Welcome to the animated summary of the siege and subsequent battle at the gates of Cairhien, between the Shaido clan of the Aiel, led by Couladin, and the army led by Rand Al'Thor (the Dragon reborn), as it appears on the fifth installment of the series, "The Fires of Heaven". Enjoy!

A lot of fantasy has elements of real world mythology woven into it. Let's explore some of the characters and events in the Wheel of Time that Robert Jordan borrowed from the Vikings. Let me know if I missed any.

**WARNING: THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS POST. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE SERIES (at least until the end of Book 6) AND WANT TO STAY SPOILER FREE** Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I've been looking for a place to share this and Dragonmount seems like a good spot. If anyone else has a song that reminds them of WoT, I'd be interested to hear about it. It's sort of weird but the song "What You Are" by Dave Matthews Band, particularly the performance that I link below, always makes me think of the Wheel of Time. When I first heard it, I was in the middle of reading the series (20 years ago or so). When I listen to the song, I imagine it portra…

Hey folks! I am reading WoT for the 1st time. Currently reading The Great Hunt, but a segment in the book where Perrin and Ingtar's group meets the Aielman, reminded me of the story of the Aiel Maidens of the Spear, that was told by the Tinker Seeker, in the first book. So I revisited the relevant passage in the Eye of the World, and came across this— So I never actually figured out what the Trollocs were up to in the Waste. That may be because I read Eye of the World quite desultorily ? If anyone here has any theories about this, or if this was actually explained later in the book (and I missed it), I would really appreciate it if you …

Question: Is each instance of the pattern spinning out a champion an instance of rebirth? Or is LTT (the Dragon) being reborn as Rand (the Dragon Reborn) special/unique in the cycle? Repeatedly throughout the ages, a champion of the light and a champion of the shadow are spun from the pattern to battle one another. In the WOT book serious, the champions of light are Lews Therin Telamon and Rand al Thor. The champion of the shadow is Ishamael/Moridin. When Ishy visits Rand’s dreams in the early books, the things he tells Rand imply that he remembers his past lives. (Sometimes you resist, sometimes you don’t, etc.) Are all the insta…

I was under the impression that one had to be linked directly to the Dark One in order to be able to touch the True Power...but Rand was able to without such a link...... For awhile, I was thinking that it could be because of the link between himself and Moridin. Can somone clarifiy this for me?

I am taking the plunge to re-read the whole series. This is big for me. As I am a slow reader and have a hard time finding time to commit. I expect this will take me years to complete but I can't think of a better time then to start now. Well I actually started 2 weeks ago now? I finished chapter 8. I cannot say how much I am enjoying this second reading!!!! I think I first read The Eye of the World like 20 - 25 years ago? Since then the whole series has been involved in my life, from beer choices (local company 2 Rivers Beer) to WoT influenced D&D campaigns. Anyway, just wanted to share how excited I am about re-reading this beloved se…

Anyone slightly concerned about only 6 episodes length for series 1? The fact that they are using 1-3 books per season makes me even more nervous.......While 100% things need to be edited and condensed and I am not saying we should have a 14 year TV series. But condensing a full season to 6 episodes doesnt seem enough time to explore things properly...... even cutting out the Seanchan completely and whatever.....GoT condensing the last season to 6 is a good example of what happens of trying to squeeze too much into too few episodes. I suppose I always assumed it would be 10 episodes and combing two books per season. Still super excited but slightly worried about season le…

My thoughts on the origin of Finn worlds. In 1987 Lawrence Watt-Evans published the book "With a Single Spell". In the book there’s a powerful magic tapestry, which is a gate to a strange magic castle flying in an empty chaos void. We learn later, that the power of the tapestry spell is so strong, when you create the image on it of a non-existing place, it will be created into existence by the magic of tapestry. The castle was created alongside with it’s inhabitants, whom the mage turned into his servants, strictly obeying his orders, but taking every chance to manifest their discontent. I think the creator of both ter’angreal gates to Finn words just created …

Okay. I have no idea how to order this, so I'm just going to go with a random order. @SinisterDeath and @Elgee asked me to tag them in this, so here they are. *bows to each and inhales deeply* Ready? This theory is mostly about how time works within WoT. In a series called the Wheel of Time, there is a decent amount of well, time-related stuff. I am going to provide a quick list of all the time-related stuff in WoT, so that you understand what I am talking about. The Wheel: The Wheel turns time for Aesrhoid (fan-name for the WoT world) and all the Worlds that Might Be. It is turned by saidin and saidar. Tel'aran'rhoid: Time…

Okay so this has been kinda bugging me for awhile. At the end of tSR Lanfear reveals herself as the fat peddlers wife Keille Shaogi. Then, at the beginning of tFoH, Moiraine is using the darkfriend peddlers to transport loads of angreal sa'angreal etc. I know Rand kept their darkfriend status a secret to protect Asmo, but it seems funny that no one seems to notice how Keille disappeared. Just seems weird that Moiraine would fail to notice it, and still trust them with all the stuff. Also how did Lanfear know she would get "a gold Tar Valon mark" from Mat in tSR?

I am on my third attempt at the WoT books and I cannot tell you how much the audiobooks have helped, especially on books 8-10. For me just a mention of the Seanchan makes me want to gnash my teeth and quit. But having the audio books has been a game changer. For the first time I have made it to the Knife of Dreams, and look forward to finally finishing the series. I am not sure if anyone else has had this, but the difference between reading and listening to the books has changed how I perceive certain characters and in all honesty how Jordan writes his female characters. (This could also be true, because my wife and I have had two daughters in the past two yea…

This was my third read of this book. I read it at publication in 2005, I read it again in 2009, and I just finished it a third time this morning. I have a few thoughts. First. This book made me cry at least twice. First, for sure, was Nynaeve and her scene with the gem dealer. It was such a clever choice to write the scene from the gem dealer's perspective, because Jordan is able to sync up the reader's emotions with the gem dealers gradual growing emotional response to Nynaeve. It is so well done, that by the end of the scene the reader is right there with the gem dealer, fully ready to charge off into the Blight. It is such a momentously rousing scene, and tears…

We know Slayer is the top assassin for the DO and his services are in demand. We also know thanks to the companion that Slayer killed Rand's father when he went to the blight. My question is that it seems unlikely Slayer (given his skills and abilities) roams about the blight with Trollocs looking for fights. So how did Slayer just happen to be there to kill Rand's dad? Seems unlikely Slayer knew he was the father of the dragon reborn, but also would seem a bit odd Slayer roaming about with Trollocs and needlessly risking himself picking fights with Aiel.

Hello Folks, I'm new here, but I figure this is probably where the SME's all hang out, which would make it the best place to try and get some guidance. Should I start at the beginning? I guess if Time's a Wheel, then it wouldn't matter where I begin though, so I'll just get started... I have a garage full of "stuff" (what the Wife refers to as "junk"), and it's time to part with some of it. Heck, it's all tucked away in boxes so it's not like I'm actively enjoying any of it anyhow. One of said boxes contains my WoT collection. - Complete series, books 0-14. Books 1-10 are autographed by RJ, with roughly Books 5-10 being 1st Editio…
