  1. Started by bengalih,

So I apologize if this isn't allowed on the forums. I didn't see anything specifically in the Code of Conduct and I do see other posters asking about looking to buy certain editions. This isn't a direct solicitation to sell, but I am looking for information as to value and best place if I wanted to sell my WoT books. I have the first three books. EotW is the Advanced Reading Copy, and tGH and tDR are both First Edition, First Printings. All are in very good condition (minor shelf wear, a bit of spine fading from sun). I see the prices widely fluctuate, so I'm not sure where to get an accurate value. Most of the editions I see are which are the same as mi…

(After SinisterDeath's message, I've decided that the goal of this thread will be a bigger one.) 1. In TFOH (chapter 39) we can read this sentence: 'Nynaeve saw faces as pale as that of any Andorman and as dark as that of any of the Sea Folk' I do not want to talk about the truthfulness of this statement, I'd like to get an answer to a simple question from English speakers. 'any' means that every Andorman/Sea Folk, without exceptions, or mostly, or randomly chosen? 2. Sometimes it really takes out of the story when Jordan using words like 'arabesque' and similar words. I remember there was a thread on Wotmania/Theoryland, where native spea…

  3. Ok, you surely have already noticed that the old symbol of the Aes Sedai is pretty similar to the Yin and Yang symbol. That's not coincidence, in fact, Yin and yang can be equated to Saidar and Saidin, the female and male halves of the One Power. The duality that completes a whole comes from Daoism, but, actually, there are many influences from Chinese mythology and history within Wheel of Time. Here it is a breakdown, along with the review and summary of "The Fires of Heaven", the fifth book. Thanks!

  4. Hi guys, I'm a Chinese reader of WoT & I just starti to read the English version. Pls forgive me if someone has asked this question before. We know that Nynave is unable to channel unless extremly angry. But Verin and other Aes Sedai said she has already channeled before entering the Tower. She has done so in healing people back at Emond's Field. - So that's my question : Does it mean she always got vexed in front of her patients? That looks a little extragerate even for a Wisdom. Even for Nynaeve. The only possible answer that I can imagine is: She was angry about herself, for unable to heal with her herbs soon enough, well enough. But still, t…

So it was said had Rand died a new Dragon would of been appointed. But here is my issue with that, the pattern might connect to the new person but Rand needed LTT's memories. knowing LTT's mistakes helped Rand form his own plan. All those memories wouldn't suddenly get transfered into the new Dragon, The pattern can't suddenly stuff a new soul into someone. So without LTT's and Rand's memories the new Dragon would have no idea how to properly seal the DO's prison. Not to mention Rand had hidden the seals and only he knew how to safely remove the "sword that wasn't a sword". So with all of that would a new Dragon simply mean delaying things? The new Dr…

Does anyone know why the Oath Rod caps lifespans at 300? Not sure why, and none of the books I can find say why. If anyone remembers any interviews with RJ or BS, that would be great. Thanks.

  7. The stories of Elaida, Egwene, Siuan are so similar to each other. The White Tower needs a new leader, so they choose an obedient figurehead. As the time goes by, they become real leaders. That's the 'official' story. But we see all the time that Aes Sedai principally care their own goals, they do/plot as they want. And they depose the Amyrlin Seat when they want to. How do you see them: figureheads or real leaders?

I know this is a Wheel of Time website, but my question is: where would you rank WoT on the greatest Fantasy series of all time list? My top 5 would be: 1) The Lord of the Rings 2) Harry Potter 3) The Wheel of Time 4) The Dresden Files 5) The KingKiller Chronicles It's hard to put WoT at the top when there were whole books (Crossroads of Twilight I'm looking at you) that were not good & when the show/movie is still a question mark.

  9. Hi all, Just finished Eye of the World - I've had this series on my "to read" list for thirty years and I'm finally doing it! I was watching a spoiler free review of the series (Merphy Napier) and she made an excellent point that readers who worked through the series as it came out got the benefit of discussing and theorizing during the wait between books, which only serves to enhance the experience of reading any series, and must be so with one that is so in depth and complex. I remember doing the same with other series (e.g., Harry Potter). Does anyone know of a thread or a site where there are book by book discussions, ones which av…

  10. Hello, First post here, since I figured maybe someone could help me out with this. So I read the books a long time ago, and thought it would be cool to collect the whole series in hard back to display in my office. I went to Thriftbooks and ordered several used ones for pretty cheap. I got them, and I didn't think about this when ordering them but probably should have, but some look wildly different from others. I would like to collect them all that look the same since it looks much nicer. I'm having a difficult time figuring out exactly HOW to do that though, since these used places don't show pictures of the exact book they …

This fool is acting too high and mighty for his own good. He needs to be taken down a couple of notches. My ideal scenario is Rand is off as usual doing his thing of acting like Big Boss. Suddenly he meets demnadred face to face. Rand says i defeated so many forsaken. I am going to take you out too. He disregards his backup who are by the way just around the corner. A big battle ensues. rand realises demandred is a whole different ball game. Rand is in the end stilled. Demandred is going to adminster the killing blow. Rand is saved just in the nick of time by logain and his followers. demandred escapes. Rand is dazed. He has been taught a lesson. His ego is…

First, since I'm brand-new here, I should say that I searched before I posted. But nothing came up... which probably says more about my lack of familiarity with this board's software than anything else. Still, the discussions I've read here, regarding the Song, and Rand's trip through the past, and hints regarding his response to Loial's treesinging, all lead me to this question: Was Lews Therin Telamon a Dai'shain Aiel? The only other hint is the thought of one of Rand's Dai'shain ancestors, in the scene of the crop singing, where he thinks that he is glad that he was spared being tested for a soldier. But we know that the Tua'thaan send their girls who ca…

  14. I have read the series four or five times and I'm still puzzled by the opening sequence based during the Age of Legends presumably after the bore was sealed (since Lews Therin is already mad, meaning the taint, which occurred as a result of using Saidin unbuffered to seal the bore, has set in). By my understanding of what happened, when Lews Therin sealed the bore, the dark lord and all the forsaken were sealed away with him, imprisoned. However, Ishamael shows up and restores Lews Therin's sanity so that he can see that he has killed his whole family and then Lews Therin commits suicide, creating Dragonmount. So my question is simple: How can Ishamael appear…

Just hit the low point of the series - the Gathering Storm, Semirhage, described as one of the most evil creatures to ever live, being held captive and broken by Cadsuane by ........ being put over her knee and spanked?!?!?! Seriously???

  18. From their own comments, both Nynaeve and Lan got more than they expected from the Sea Folk wedding. Other than some vague references about obeying in public/private, does anyone know what else this ceremony entails? All I know is she seems more likeable since she got hitched, and I wonder if Lan's "Wedding authorities" have something to do w/it. Whaddya think??

Not trying to offend anyone but I have to ask this: Aren't the Aes Sedai frearfully dense at times? ??? I mean, all the way up to the Amyrlin Seat. How is that possible? The tests and such that they have to undergo before becoming Aes Sedai, both the trials as novices and as accepted AND the tests before being raised to the next level, must ensure that the women are not idiots, right? But, when I read the story I get the feeling that more than a handful of these full sisters are a bit behind on the Intelligence Train, a few cards short of a full deck. Why? How? Any thoughts on the matter?

  20. Well I've been looking for the paperback version of new spring that has this cover: https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1442956776l/1001544.jpg rather than this one: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/7yAAAOSw3gJZMFyP/s-l500.jpg (This is an image of a paperback copy with the cover I'm looking for to prove it exists: https://i0.wp.com/www.sandimagebooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/wheel-of-time-series-1-15-by-robert-jordan-.jpg?fit=1600%2C1200&ssl=1) Is there anywhere online where it could be purchased?

  22. I recently started a re-read and thought that this time I might actually attempt to pronounce the names correctly. However, I've noticed that some of the names are just ridiculous complicated, and Randland (RJ) really really likes words where a syllable ends with a vowel and then is followed by a different vowel. I find these words just ridiculous to pronounce and in my mind resort to the diphthong. The one I find the most ridiculous is Aiel, which is supposed to be aye-EEL. But everytime I thing of someone pronouncing it, it just doesn't work. Especially when used as a possessive (an Aielman's) . So I pronounce it "ale". Also, Taim, tame. Nynaeve, …

Well ive been looking for someone to post this for years and ive never seen it. So here it goes. Through my 5th time through the evidence shows that indeed Selene is not Lanfear the WHOLE time. I don't presume to know who is impersonating as Selene, in fact im open to opinions. But to be brief ill state the reasons/evidence why I think Selene is not Lanfear. To be breif, in TGH we are introduced to Selene and she meets Rand in another world via Portal Stone. She talks of how she is from Carhien and how she has estates there. At the end of the book after the battle at Falme, Min is taking care of Rand when in walks Selene and marks him on his forehead (min says it loo…

  25. Hi all! I suspect that I am just going a bit crazy, but feel the need to ask and confirm. I first read WOT as it was released and generally had the hardback on reserve on opening day (well at least after the first few). I re-read up to that new book each time one came out, but since the series finished I haven't read it for several years. I decided recently to read the whole series again, and got on Kindle as I had had to get rid of my previous book collection when I left South Africa. I want to ask if there were any changes in the books between editions? I was expecting certain things as I was reading that didn't happen. I really thou…

  26. Hello, I’m currently looking to purchase a 1st Edition, 1st Impression of “The Eye of the World”. Ideally signed, ideally in hardcover. I would consider a 1/1 signed paperback as well. Condition is of vital importance. Looking for something unread, or at least very lightly read. Not interested in advance reading copies, sorry. Yes, I’m aware of the value of these, I collect rare first editions and WoT is very high on my all-time list so this has ended up on my “bucket books”. I figure with as many WoT fans as there are on here, perhaps there may be a few who happen to have copies they’re interested in selling. If so, feel free to message me or comment here with details. T…

Wouldn’t Perrin and Egwene have needed to cross the River Haevin on their journey to Caemlyn (probably before meeting Elias)? Did I miss that in TEOTW?

  28. This might seem a bit off topic, but I thought it was one of the funniest things I've read in a Brandon Sanderson book. In the latest Alcatraz novel there's a Asmodean reference. Alcatraz, the hero, is thinking of the bad things his mother has done so far: "I hadn't forgotten how she'd give Himalaya up to be execute, nor how she'd sold me--her own son--to Blackburn, the one-eyed Dark Oculator. Or how she killed Asmodean. (Okay, she didn't really do that last one, but I wouldn't put it past her.)" When I first read it I laughed SO hard. Brandon is so clever. ~Mashiara

  29. Started by DojoToad,

Did anyone else like 'Fire in the Ways' better than all the jumping around Perrin did with Slayer in the Dreamworld? Obviously couldn't have both, I much prefer the Ways and Ogier. Plus replacing that Slayer arc also eliminates the silliness with the dream spike and his meaningless encounters with Lanfear. Lord Luc/Slayer could have been killed at Shayol Ghul. I think they went the wrong way; how about you?

  30. Started by DragonSpawn,

What personally bothers you or what do you particularly like about Rand's personality. Me personally in the book I wonder why RJ portrayed Rand the way he is at the moment. He seems like a craven boy who tries to deal with the mantle that is put on him but fails badly at most he tries or he could have done it better. Also shrouds himself in hypocrisy. Other characters in the WoT, such as LTT and Artur Paendrag would in my opinion be much more suited or their personalities much more suited to take on the role Rand has. Lets take Colavaere for example, she commits high treason yet instead of just commanding her execution as he would undoubtly if she …
