  1. Started by Samwell Tarly,

Hello, I am a new member, I didn´t did my greeting post, so maybe in the days to follow... Anyway, the only piece of Jordan´s writing I own right now is "The New Spring" in it´s original short form. And I see that author was quite skilled but also that his sense for detail could get out of control. So here we have Morraine´s story about what she wore, where she slept and to who she smiled at instead of paying him, with some tidbits about unimportant stuff like Dragon Reborn, so I see where tha accusations of graphomania are coming from. But I would like to experience world-crossing journey, political intrigue and SM soceresses. In your opinion how much story and descrip…

Why does this story, more than any other franchise or series, hold such fascination for us? Those of us who have read the entire series four, five, even ten times or more from TEotW Prologue to ToM Epiclogue, dwelling on every small detail, making predictions, casting the movie, etc.... we know that the uninitiated are really missing out on something special. This brings me to the first of two questions I'd like to throw out. 1. Why THIS series? In your opinion, what makes WoT better or more memorable than other famous franchises? Lord of the Rings, Dragonlance, heck I even remeber the Chronicles of Prydain. What 'nerve' does WoT strike within us that inspire…

The WoT books are filled with classic and awesome quotes and two of my favourites are: "Shoulds and coulds build no bridges, girl!" - Lini ...and of course, Dovie'andi se tovya sagain" - Mat a.k.a Son of Battles Generally most of Lini's life lesson quotes are great. Discuss.

So I'm curious as to read what events would trigger you to be anry about them should they happen in the last two books. For me that would be: Moiraine dying right after being freed (that would seriously suck bullets) The One Power and channeling going extinct (if I wanted reality, I'd watch the news ) The Shaido turning out to be the 'remnant of a remnant' (being as they're headed back to the Waste and leave the others to deal with TG) Fail(e) ending up as queen lalablah. Loial dying rescueing Fail(e). grrrr

  5. ive noticed so much hate against female characters in this series by people on these forums, presumably male people. so im wondering is there any males who whos favorite character is female, or in your top three favorite characters? since reading tGS and ToM, Nynaeve is probably my favorite character, shes just hardcore. anyone else?

well, the other day i found myself trying to walk in "cat crosses the courtyard"....and though, holy crap.....i realy am addicted. And then continuing with it after some time i would angrily chastise myself for not being in the propper "relaxed, arrogant and dangerous saunter".....damn it all. Then another time, somone asked me my nationality and the FIRST THING that poped into my head was "Tai'shar Alba!"....which roughly translates to "true blood of scotland"...and thats in part Old Tongue, part Galic(ancient scotish).....of which neither i speak. Light, but i need help. Any of you guys had simmilar embarasing experiances? If not, then feel free ju…

I was reading the other day and realized that Galad and Rand are brothers. I know it's only half brothers but I still find it interesting. I don't know why I never realized it before. Is this news to anyone or am I a day late and a dollar short.

  8. Hello, I wonder who killed Galldrian. Did Tom kill him? Is there a solid proof from novels or RPG books? If not Thom then who? Forsaken to destabilize Cairhien? Who killed Barthanes? A Gholam? Then why Forsaken killed Barthanes? Because he helped Fain, a DO renegade? Or did they kill him to start riots to destabilize Cairhien?

  9. Shadar Logoth, Machin Shin, Draghkar, Myrdraal swords, mind traps (I think), dying in Teleranrhiod, seems that there are a lot of things that can destroy someone's soul in Randland. So how many more turnings before the Shadow wins this game by default in a war of attrition? I mean, he gets to pocket how many channeler souls alone simply through seduction and forcibly turning them? What happens when the Wheel turns enough time and he gets all of the channeler souls besides Rand's? Anyone thinks that maybe Ishmael actually had a pretty good point?

Hell, now that I got myself on this rampage of "why don't they" I can't seem to stop. The characters in WOT who can channel are so dramatic and extreme. It's either "I must be an Aes'Sedai who is perfect and work towards all that is good in the name of the light" or else it's "I must pledge myself to the dark one and work to destroy all that is good and yadda yadda yadda." Why aren't there any rogue channelers who just don't give a crap one way or the other? I mean, I guess the kin are sort of like that. But even they have grouped themselves together and kind of have rules and regulations and whatnot. I'd like to see one male or female channeler who has just…

Note: We will not be creating new threads till after the release--when this thread gets unlocked you will know you can request them. The Spoiler Board has been locked so that only Admins and Moderators can make new posts. I know this is a pain, but the reason is to stop spoilers in thread titles and repeated posts, both of which were a major problem last year on the non-spoiler board (the threads on Rand's sword nearly drove me insane). That fact is, simply, that our traffic gets so high around the release this is needed to grant the board any form of readability. So to request new threads, simply post your request in this thread. A few rules and pointers. …

I'm hoping someone can answer a simple question for me. Once I finished ToM, I began a re-read. I'm in the middle of Path of Daggers, and in it, Perrin is speaking with the Wise Ones in their tent. They offer him something to drink, and his cup is gold, while everyone else uses silver. He states the oddity, and that there must be meaning, but as far as I can remember, it is never explained. Does anyone know if there is a specific reason, are the Wise Ones simply honoring him as their battle leader, or is there more to it? Thanks all! Eris

  14. I'm not entirely sure if any of these are explained in Towers of Midnight, which I unfortunately haven't read yet, but I have three questions. First; what is wrong with Rand's eyesight, starting in Knife of Dreams after Semirhage's betrayal, and continuing into The Gathering Storm? Where he's seeing things as if through water (although it's mentioned that it's getting better); at first I thought it was saa, but no one else mentions seeing them in his eyes, and he hadn't touched the True Power at that time. Second, Taim has twice been mentioned (when he visits Elayne in Winter's Heart right before her first-sister ceremony, and the other when Pevara and the other …

This is in response to Luckers thread about AS screw ups though the history of Randland. and he got those points spot on, and I have posted several times backing up his claim. However, they did manage to do a few things correctly, even if they didn't take the momentum as far as they could have. 1. Establishing the White Tower- I have always thought this was a good thing. While the WT had its sinister moments that seem to only serve them it did established a centralized authority for all AS to follow. During the breaking my theory was as the real AS in the men hunter ajahs died for whatever reason the AS conscripted girls they found with the spark or who could lear…

  16. Well, I have it, and it's sitting at home, but I have not yet started reading it, because I am in the middle of another book. Now, considering the time WOT sucks out of the reader's schedule, I have grown used to reading other books at the same time as whatever WOT book I'm in at any given time. But... the fact that the next book, and Grande Finale', do not come out for quite some time, I am intentionaly putting off the reading of TOM so that there will be a lesser gap between this and the next, which will be the last. Is this a dumb idear, in any of your opinions? And why?

  17. Started by Rania,

Is anyone other than Rand aware of the fact that Galad is his half-brother? I know that Egwene, Mat, Lan and Moiraine all heard the story of Rand's birth parents, but did they make the connection that Shaiel is Tigraine? I have been trying to remember, but I dont think that anyone other than Rand knows this. And since one of the scenes I have been waiting for is Galad finding out, I am terrified that if only Rand knows, than he will never tell and Rand will never figure it out.

Hello , been reading these bloody books since 1994 , looking forward/dreading the ending, I am submitting this thread looking for some help with getting an Ebook version of Towers, I understand they are out there and I would ideally be able to get one for my iPad. If you are so good as to help please be aware I am a computer idiot and should you mention something like PDF format I will think you are talking about kitchen worktops and become very confused.... Thanks in anticipation

I am reading TGS.....and on page 593 when Egwene is being led to the Novices' Quarters after being let out of her cell, he writes "But she's won. The realization was just beginning to dawn on her. She'd won She'd resisted the worst punishment Elaida could contrive, and had come out victorious! The Amyrlin would be punished by the Hall and Egwene would go free." This is supposed to be from Egwene's point of view. Eqwene would never consider Elaida as the Amyrlin. To her Elaida was a traitor to the Tower, and never deserved the title......Sanderson should have wrote "Elaida would be punished"....not The Amyrlin....

Is there a reason why Perrin is only addressed as Sei'cair once in the series? It seems a little strange for that one random Aiel to call him Sei'cair (which I assume is Golden Eyes?) early in A Crown of Swords and we never hear of it again. Not even in the same book!

Hi, just registered, etc. By far my favorite version I've seen of the WoT books is the 9x6ish paperbacks (that's the size listed on Amazon... the kind I'm talking about that I see in Barnes and Noble may be a bit bigger, I can't really tell from memory), but it looks like only the first three have been released in this manner. First of all, am I wrong? Have any books beyond tDR been released in this size/style? Second, if not, does anyone know of any plans to release the rest of the books like this? Or do I have to wait for the series to be completed, at which point I assume there'll be a few different box sets and whatnot? This came up recently 'cause my c…

Hello everyone, I was walking my dog earlier this morning and started mulling over the section of TOM that deals with Elayne. Normally, I can tolerate her storyline, but sometimes her actions really annoy me. In particular, throughout the entirity of the series, her comments and attitude towards Mat have always grated. Grousing about that got me thinking about how increibly selfish she has been over the past several books.I mean all she has been focused on was winning the throne of Andor (something that's good for her, but doesn't really help anyone else..At least not directly). Then, when you think of it, she really is focused on those things that she wants. Look at…

1998 Article about Path of Daggers If you're not interested in reading an old review for tPoD, skip ahead to the bottom. According to the author, RJ mentioned an 88 year old fan who sent him a letter in 1998 urging him to write faster. I sincerely hope that old fart is still hanging on, and that he makes it through to 2012 to read AMOL. It seems as tragic as RJ's death for someone (even if it isn't me) to pass away before finishing this series. Part of me imagines this guy as the real life Cenn Buie, sending RJ a short and impatient letter and even shaking his fist at the mail man to get him to mail it faster. He was 88 in 1998, so if this guy is still alive today tha…

I have been thinking about some stuff that we have not yet been brought back to AFAIK. Specifically the library ter'angreal that Elayne possesses. We can assume it is written in OT since the section headings of Fiction/Non-Fiction appears in OT. Now supposedly nobles are trained in the OT, so logically there have to be some tutors that can read the OT around some where in Camelyn or perhaps on an estate of one of the various Lords. I would think that if this ter'angreal holds Non-Fiction books that it would be a priority to put the ter'angreal + 1 Kinswoman (to operate it, since it requires the OP) + 1 OT tutor + 1 (or 12 or whatever) scribe in a room together…

  28. Started by Feral,

I was wondering last night about what would have happened to the White Tower if the rebels had never run away to Salidar and wanted other people's opinions. I know pretty much everyone will agree it's better off under Egwene's rule than Elaida's, so this is more about comparing the White Tower broken under Elaida's rule, to how it would have been with Elaida if it had remained whole. Would it have been the same, better or worse? A few points to consider: Would the Tower remaining whole have made Elaida even MORE power crazy and given her an ego boost? Or was it the stress and pressure of the split that helped make Elaida as mad as she finally became? If strong, amb…

  30. I get that Rand is difficult to kill, and that some main characters up until now have been really important. But now that Elayne's unified Andor and soon Cairhien, and Egwene has stabilized the Tower, why don't the Forsaken kill them? Killing Elayne would surely throw Andor back into chaos, and if Egwene were to die, the Aes Sedai might return to squabbling, despite tarmon gai'don being on their doorstep, quite literally. It wouldn't be too difficult to do, would it? I mean. Demandred could Travel to a couple of miles outside Caemlyn, call down a dozen of lightning bolts on the royal palace and then disappear before anyone had any time to discover him. Or he could us…
