I've experienced a lot of cool things when it comes to the Wheel of Time. But last night at the Sacramento book signing, something happened that was pretty surreal for me, which I guess is saying something. As the signing itself began, Harriet "insisted" that I sit at the table with her and Brandon and sign the dedication page for Towers of Midnight. Let me let that sink in: Harriet asked me to sign copies of Towers of Midnight with her. So for the next 4 and a half hours I sat there and signed 350-400 copies of ToM. It was such an honor to be asked to do that. Part of me still isn't completely comfortable signing RJ's books, but both Harriet and Brandon assur…

So i am re-listening to the books and i had a thought. So the Two Rivers has not seen a tax collector in generations they don't even know they are in Andor. But they produce something that is sought after all over randland. How could Andor not tax this, i would understand if they did not make anything but their area is know by everyone this side of the Aryth Ocean for having the best tabac around. This just does not make sense to me

ToM came out Nov 2nd 2010 in hardcover and as an audiobook. While the rest of the series is already available as ebooks, ToM will only come out as an ebook in February 2011. Harriet and Brandon spoke briefly on the reason for that in the . Basically, it seems to have something to do with the NYT bestseller list not including ebook sales. Also, you can get the whole story in this thread. Please understand that while this might be frustrating, February's the best they could do. If there will be any development in this front I'll post it here (and it will probably also appear in the News section). Until then, this topic will remain locked. Enjoy ToM. Once yo…

Gaidal Cain: He is swarthy. (TGH,Ch47) He is dark and strongly muscled. His face is wide and flat. His heavy nose is too big and his mouth is a too broad gash. He is shorter than Birgitte. He has a harsh voice. (TSR,Ch54) Olver: He is gaunt and sullen-looking. He is ugly with a squashed nose, a mouth too wide for his face and ears too big that stick out besides. He looks six but claims to be nine. (LoC,Ch5) He is short and skinny with huge ears, nose and mouth. He looks ten. (ACoS,Ch28) Discuss...

Yes this is another "Asmo's killer" thread, but the search function isn't working, so I could not tell whether or not this particular theory has been discussed. If I remember correctly, Asmo oppened a door to step into a room (or something like that; forgive me for my spotty memory), and then "darkness took him" (or something). Now, RJ says the DO can't bring Asmo back because of "how and where he died." Well, what if the twisted doorway Terangreal had been stored away somewhere, Asmo didn't know it was there, he oppened the door that he thought was to his room (or wherever he meant to go) and stepped into the realm of the Eelfinn or Aelfinn and was then killed by the…

Ok, here I go: The man is utterly incapable of creating believable, good-sounding names, the names of new characters really blow. Hard. They differ in feeling from RJ's and in doing so they stand out, in my opinion, like a pale British dude in the middle of Africa. I'll take note of some of them and put them in here. Am I alone in this or do any of you feel somewhat the same here? Otherwise I think mr Sanderson does a GREAT job so.. but I don't like the names he comes up with.

I am hereby copy/pasting my original post in the simple questions/full answers thread as it has sparked more debate than teh thread is up to. For the first part of teh debate see page 121 (currently) of that thread, and lets continue it here in a dedicated thread. Thom then pushes Rand who is still fixated on the Myrddraal, Thom crashes into the fade "before theblack blade was half drawn, and both went down in a thrashing heap" Thom yells for them to run and then "the air in the square flashed an eye-searing blue". From the description the Myrddraal has not gotten its sword out, Rand is fixated on the tableu, and the preceeding pages description of the feeling in…

This is not a huge topic or anything, but I was writing up the list of Cadsuane's ter'angreal and I remembered this. This raises the question of what a paralis-net is. The Encyclopaedia WoT offers the suggestion that a paralis-net is a group of ornamental ter'angreal designed to protect and/or serve the wearer as a weapon--which seems plausible, but if so why specify that the paralis-net was in her hair? If these ter'angreal are always ornaments wouldn't the name include the point that they were being worn? For instance you wouldn't say 'the cursed woman with all the jewellery on her body', you'd just say 'the cursed woman with all the jewellery.' I still thi…

As Brandon tweeted over the weekend, the Audible download skipped four pages. I can confirm that Audible UK version has now been fixed, both the 4 and Enhanced formats. The easy way to tell if you have the faulty file is Part 3 Length = 7hrs 29 Mins. the fixed file runs to 7hrs 41. the affected missing section of Chapter 24 occurs at 1hr25m44seconds. Kudos to Audible for fixing the file so quickly.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've noticed a fairly interesting conundrum. Assuming that Rand survives the Last Battle (I think he will, we'll see), I don't think he can live more than like 70 years (even though he's a channeler). Here's the reason: Elayne, Min, and Aviendha bonded him in WH. Particularly noteworthy here is the fact that he is bonded by Min despite the fact that she can't channel. Because she's not a channeler, she'll die when she's 80 years old or whatever. However, Rand is still her Warder per say, so he'll become suicidal and probably die, right? I don't think he'd be able to break out of it, like Lan did, because Lan had a supreme purpose: Nyna…

First let me say that I have not yet read TOM, so if you have, please do not respond with ANYTHING inspired by or based on what you've read in TOM. I do not want any spoilers in this, and I believe this board does not allow TOM spoilers anyway, so please don't respond with info from TOM. Now, that being said. I posted something about this in another thread, but figured I should give it its own thread so as not to hijack someone else's. So. Any theories as to what the connection is, if any, between Taim and Moridin?

Has anyone else seen all the one star reviews on Amazon simply because the ebook isn't available yet? I think it's sad that Amazon is letting "reviews" of the book be posted that arn't even about the actual book. Ebooks are great, I agree, but I also agree with Harriet's decision to avoid cutting out the bookstores. Ebooks are still a relatively new sellable format, I don't understand the anger over an e-version not being immediatly available.

Ishamael/Moridin is arguably the most powerful and successful of the Chosen, definately the one with most of the DOs approval. Before this, he was one of the AoL greatest philosophers Alviarin, head of the Black Ajah and very dedicated Darkfriend, came from the White, who are also philosophers. The only good philosopher in the book was ripped apart by a Gholam Is this a coincidence, did RJ have a thing against philosophers, or is it a warning that philosophy can lead you into places that you really shouldn't go.

Hey guys, first post and everything, I was wondering what all of your opinions are on the most important things to be included in any movie adaptation of The Eye Of The World. As in, some things would obviously be shortened, (probably things like the really long journey to Caemlyn), and some things would need to be referenced in passing (like the Tower of Ghenjei) and some things are too important to miss (like meeting Loial). Out of all the different events, which ones to you would have to feature? It can be pivotal character moments, moments that make you emotional, points of history, snippets of foreshadowing, vital plot points, things to set up other events or s…

Well i got to thinking Tonight about the Original breaking and the new one that has been Prophizised... It's been pretty well established throughout the series that when the male side of the source got tainted that the men driven mad by it were the cause of the breaking, hence why LTT was also blamed for it all happening.. But here's the interesting thing. In the Prophecies it clearly says that the Dragon will cause a new Breaking.. How would this happen if he has cleared the taint off the source preventing male channelers from going mad which should prevent them causing a breaking. My theory is this.. It was not the Male channelers that caused the bre…

Photos available here: http://www.dragonmount.com/forums/gallery/album/11024/49-baileys-crossroads-towers-of-midnight-signing/ The Bailey’s Crossroads (Washington, DC) Towers of Midnight signing has come and gone, and I think all will agree it was a huge success. An estimated 400 people showed up to get books signed and hear Brandon and Harriet speak. Yet the whole affair was done after less than four hours. Most of this can be attributed to the New Signing System by Brandon Sanderson ™, wherein you can bring as many books as you like up the first time, but only one can be personalized. I know Brandon was concerned that this might anger some, but most seemed ok w…

Ok. It seems like at some point, probably around the time Rand started becoming such an all powerful, heartless, unstoppable badass of destruction and ruthless punishment, Fain up and dissapeared. I cannot remember the exact moment I read of him last, but I'm certain that I do not remember him being in TGS at all. Without giving any real detailed spoilers, can someone who has read TOM say at least (and simply) whether or not Fain appears in the book at all, and not just refferenced by another charecter in conversation? So this thread doesn't get locked, please use the spoiler code brackets, pasted here (of course you can get rid of the stuff between) [spoiler] t…

We see some times that the stronger you are in the One Power, the easier it is to learn new weaves, to live longer, and many other advantages. I wondered what provided the strenght. I thought for a while that it was related to the body, in contradiction to the soul determining the ability to chanel or not. We also see that strong people in the OP tend to have clever minds, more wits, brilliant ideas. Cadsuane, Elayne, Egwene, Nynaeve all have innovations, are more thoughtful, Moiraine redicovered Balefire somehow, etc... Third point, we see that something done with the Power the first time determine the next times. I take for example the Skimming platform Rand mad…
