  1. Started by MikeRiley,

It's been a while now since I've read the book and it'll be even longer before I get to it again. I can't remember if we were given real evidence that Graendel really was in the palace that Rand balefired. We know he believed her to be there and used Ramshalan as a test. There was compulsion done on him which was erased with the balefire shortly after. My thought here is that it might not have been Graendel. Again, I'm basing this off the idea that we don't know.. I could be entirely wrong here. Anyway, the crystal throne in Seandar is currently unclaimed. One of the forsaken could easily have gone over and taken it. Something like this would be seen as an amusing so…

A somewhat random thought came up while I was talking with a friend who's going through the books for the first time. If someone where to die, could you still heal his/her wounds, maybe make a presentable corpse for the funeral? I'm leaning towards not, but I'm not even sure if anyone's tried in the books... Your thoughts, feelings?

Okay from what we know of the war of power some high ranking goodies turned coat and inlisted on the dark one competing team. I know that there was no bad side before the bore and that in this war there was bad guys left over from the last conflict and they kept the dakd side ticking over. My question is how come we havent seen to many people changing sides this time around, like major players. Sammael, demandred and ishy were all prominent figures in there day. Does any one think we might be in for a shock in the future and not just some minor characters. Logain, some aes sedai maybe.

  4. Can't believe I never connected this before, but in Eye of the World, when Rand drops in for a visit with the queen, she lets him go for "having the advantage of having heard Two Rivers accents before" (not exact quote, but about that), but the Two Rivers hasn't seen so much as a tax collector in generations, much less some of the Queen's Gaurds, so how much less so the queen herself, (or even the heir to a powerful house if before her ascension to the throne) and NO ONE leaves the Two Rivers, never... That just leaves Tam Al'thore to have meet the queen when he left to find adventure... Something to look for if his prequel ever comes out...

I was going to put this in the BUT thread (and it will be in the compilation) but I genuinely don't think this stands a chance of being the Big Unnoticed Thing. I still think it my be a normal unnoticed thing, though. In any case it's a dream by Egwene that I do not think I have ever seen anyone comment on. I had assumed this was just a normal dream--a nightmare. It follows on directly from a dream about Siuan and Leane handing her to thirteen Liandrin's, which was obviously not a True Dream. But, consider, if it were a nightmare would not the Seanchan woman leash her? Could this possibly indicate that eventually Fortuona will choose to send the sul…

Hey all. I'm new to the site and I haven't read everything on here so if this has been brought up before sorry. I just finished my re-read of The Great Hunt and it's revealed that Verin is black ajah. On page 231 of the soft-cover edition, when she reaches Ingtar's group she says "Moiraine Sedai sent me Lord Ingtar". But then on page 675 Moiraine says, "I did not send Verin." Moiraine frowned. "She did that on her own." I was looking for any indications that Verin was BA in earlier books and that was the only one I found in this book. If there's any more could someone point them out to me. Another thing I noticed was on page 678 Lan is sharpening his sword, bu…

  7. The Big Unnoticed Thing—Theory Compilation! Please Note: The BUT was resolved in Towers of Midnight--it was Mat's Ashendarei, which the Finns apparently gave to him for no reason, but in reality they gave it to him in answer to his wish for a way out. This is not in the BUT compilation because it was discussed in the theoryland conversation that Brandon Sanderson's assitant Peter Ahlstrom said did not contain the BUT. Apparently he missed it. Before I start, this is a compilation not a discussion--if your looking to chat up your favourite ideas and scour down others then come play with us in the Discussion Thread Hey guys, so wow. I’ve just finished goi…

  9. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this: 1The words of the Preacher,a the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. 3 What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? 4 A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever. 5 The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises. 6 The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. 7 All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, the…

When did Nynaeve see Asmodean? In The Fires of Heaven: Meeting [chapter 14]: "I have something else important to tell you," she went on after a moment. "I think the Forsaken are planning something." It was not the same as telling them about Birgitte. She made it seem that she herself had seen Lanfear and the others. In truth, Moghedien was the only one she could recognize at sight, and maybe Asmodean, though she had only seen him once, and at a distance. She hoped neither of them thought to ask how she knew who was who, or why she thought Moghedien might be skulking about. In actuality, the problem did not arise from that at all.

  11. I finished TGS about a week ago. Yesterday I started my re-read of the series. I'm only about chapter 5 of Eye of the World and hell did I find stuff that now makes complete sense which was absolutely non-sense back when I read it the first time. Just consider the prologue 'Dragonmount'. The first time I read this I was more like, yeah, whatever he's talking about. Although you can figure out a little bit what he means. But now I'm like, 'Hell yeah, that's so cool'. Other example from 'Dragonmount': As a first time reader I took something like this for granted. I mean, what is saidin? How is it tainted? What is 'Travelling'. Now I know and it makes perfec…

There was some hinting that Avi had some talent related to ter'angreal and then we got confirmation while she was talking with Elayne about them. So, we now know that Avi can tell what a ter'angreal does by holding it, which will come in handy so people won't have to experiment and possibly hurt themselves. I'm sure this will be of use in the future. She'll probably discover some major ter'angreal that will help in TG. Any ideas on what might come of her knew Talent? One possibility could be something that will help with all the food spoiling and/or none of the plantlife growing.

Having got to the point where a new reread is inevitable (I tend to do it every April :D )I have a few questions and musings on Mr Fain and would like some input from you people if you would be so kind. We all know that Mr Fain is the Dark One's hound so to speak. Sent out to hunt the boys and then later Rand himself when it becomes obvious that Rand is the Dragon Reborn. We see that he has abilities that give him "awareness" of where Rand is, as mentioned when he is questioned by Moraine and co. We know he is also tainted by Shadar Logoth, but did this taint overlap the Dark ones influence or has it replaced it? Do they co-exist, are they one and the same (like pu…

I just finished up Crossroads of Twilight (again), and a thought struck me as I rolled over to go to sleep... Since fans have concluded (and RJ has hinted at), Loial is modeled after RJ... I am wondering if BS will do an homage scene to RJ, and in the last book have Loial die in a heroic manner - and have a new author step up to compile the notes and write the Legacy of the Dragon. I am wondering if perhaps it might be Olver, who LOVES the stories of heroes and such that he has heard (and loves Jaim Farstrider/Noal as well). It was just a thought - and I have thick skin... go ahead and discuss!

  17. I'm doing a reread but I'm still confused about something.. So in the Age of Legends, they made the Bore which released the Dark One, and Lews Therin was named the Dragon. In the next age, Rand becomes the Dragon Reborn because the Dark One's prison is breaking again. But it's said that the Dragon and the Dark One have fought thousands of times since the beginning of time. But how have they fought so many times when the Dark One was still imprisoned until the Bore was drilled in the last age? Did they make the same mistake by making the Bore with each turning of the wheel?? That sounds weird.. And I thought that Lews Therin was the first to be named "Dragon" but h…

I've recently realized there's a lot of circumstantial evidence to suggest that Rand's favorite philosopher "Herid Fel" from LoC may have been previously introduced in tFoH, subtly, as just "Herid", one of Hadnan Kadere's darkfriend wagon drivers. Specifically, in tFoH:2, we see the wagon driver, who Kadere later names as Herid, accidentally fall partway through the redstone doorframe ter'angreal. In tFoH:52, we learn from Kadere that "Herid" had never been right in the head afterwards, and had run off near the Cairheinin side of Jangai Pass, sometime around Day 526 of the series. Later, in LoC:18 on Day 593, we're introduced to "Herid Fel" at Rand's new scho…

  23. I just can't take the children of light seriosuly. They can never see any different and they are so stubborn. Will they never realize that they are heading the wrong way? picking on inocent people in the cities while trollocs keep attacking the borderlands. If they want to end the Shadow so badly why don't they assemble their armies and march to help the borderlands to fight off trolloc attacks? I'm soon finished with the Shadow Rising but so far I can't see any hope for them. They are annoying and their lack of view provokes me. will they ever change or do I have to jump into the book and kick Pedron Nialls head with a baseballbat? hehe sorry I just can't get to wh…

It has been about a 1 and half years since I read the series and now I am re-reading them. Can anyone give a run down on what all happened to Moraine. I seem to remember her fighting Lanfear but I don't remember what happened. Did she use balefire like on Be'lal. I also remember her writing a letter to Thom mabye. What exactly was that place she dissappeared to after Lanfear. Please I would appreciate anything.

So I read at some point that the reason Siuan Sanche's ability in the OP was so greatly dimished is that her stilling was reverted by Nynaeve, and if her stilling would have been healed by a man she could have been restored to her original (considerable) power. But this begs the question: Why is Logain still at full power? After all, it was on Logain that Nynaeve *discovered* the ability to heal stilling, something that wasn't even known during the AoL. I suppose I shouldn't say that Logain is at his original power--of that there's no way to know. But what we DO know is that during the assult on the mansion in which LTT first channels, and weaves all kind…

  27. I was just wondering what everyone thought the likelihood that there will be an "expanded universe" of books after the main series is over. I can't imagine not having a WoT book to read and I hope that there will be side stories of the main and minor characters. It would also be neat to read a series about the Age of Legends or about Hawkwing. What does everyone else think?

did i just catch an unused plot devise, maybe something that Rj started to explore and then discarded? In tDR Mat get the shivers and goosebumps that male chanllers get when a woman is holding/using saidar when Lanfear then Suian were in his room after the healing session. was the unused plot devise that Mat could have been a learner? hum makes me want to read faster and see if there is another hint at this in the next book, maybe this is what we all missed, lol.
