  1. Started by Thanatos,

Alright. Reading tFoH. In the prologue, Fain is talking with Elaida. He says he doesn't know who he is. Fain, Mordeth, AND Ordeith. This is spoken of as 3 seperate beings. So my question is, who was Ordeith. And while I am on the subject of Fain, what exactly is the extent of his power. It is never specifically mentioned in the series. Speculate.

i dont have access to my books atm but i remember mat remarking when he first met tuon how very young she looks. Since she is of similar age to other characters in the book is it possible she can infact channel and has already begun to slow? Thoughts?

I am doing a more detailed re-read and got caught on the part where they were almost to Baerlon when Moiraine tells the boys that she would destroy them herself before she let the dark one have them. This seems odd in a couple of ways: If she suspects that either of the three is the dragon reborn then a.) how does she plan on getting to TG without the prophecies being fulfilled and still surviving? and b.) wouldn't she know that killing them would be the fastest way to deliver them to the DO (unless she used balefire but we aren't aware of that at this point). Or was she bluffing?

  4. Started by mb,

This thread is to be about groups where it would seem odd to have darkfriends in. These groups came in my mind:: -Tuatha'an (their motto seems to be no violence at all; darkfriends generally do violence) -Borderlanders (all seem to be sworn to fight the Dark One from like their birth) -Third Age Aiel (they also seem sworn to fight the Dark One) -Seanchan (most seem/seemed to consider Shadowspawn as superstition) -Whitecloaks (their rules seem all about fighting the Dark One) "Exceptions":: -Tuatha'an might be enticed from being promised the Song -Borderlanders might join from getting tired from fighting Shadowspawn or might get captured -Aiel, ch…

In TSR chapter 37, Imre Stand, it is noted by Mat that Couladin and Kadere have a long discussion. Neither one leaves looking happy; Kadere glares at Couladin as he's leaving (though he does glare at everybody). So, what do we think they were talking about? Could Couladin be a darkfriend? Did Asmodean/ Lanfear call for the Trolloc attack? If so, maybe Kadere was informing Couladin the attack would take place that night. Thoughts? Potentially this could just be a lead-in to the whole Aiel darkfriends idea.

So I've been looking all over and I can't really find any answers to some big questions I have had concerning existence and reality itself in the Wheel of Time universe. I'm wondering if there really just aren't any, but I wanted to try posting them here. For starters, what is the nature of the wheel of time and the great serpent, and their tie to existence? It almost seems like these things are actual physical entities in the cosmos, but it seems more likely that they are metaphors for a much more abstract and spiritual entity that is the backdrop for all existence. What is the nature behind the Creator, and what is his relationship to the world and the Wh…

  7. Lanfear told Rand that there was only 2 sa'angreal for men stronger then callandor, and only one she knew still existed (choedan kal). The other I assume is the Ring of Tamyrlin. In veins of gold, rand thought: "Only two times before had he held this much power, once when he cleansed saidin, and once... when he created this mountain." Does this indicate he must have used Ring of Tamyrlin when he created dragonmount? and that is why Lanfear thought it didnt exist anymore. Problem here is: a Sa'angreal prevents you from draining too much of the power, which is the supposed way he created the mountain. My hopes are that it wasnt destroyed, but that Ran…

In the Prologue of TEotW the air wavers and Ishameal appeared.....in TGH when Min was comforting Rand after defeating Ishameal, Lanfear appears and speaks to Min briefly and then vanishes..... What form of Travel is this? Why aren't they still using it? Are gateways a better form of Travel? I'm not sure when the first use of a gateway is mentioned.

  9. I was just going throught my last re-read or re-listen as i have the audio books, and had a bit of a brain wave, could Lews Therin have ever touched the True Power. I was sat there thinking about the Dark Ones seals and about the white and black side of it and thought is the white side created with One Power and the Black side created with the True Power. I have always just thought that the white side was saidar and that the black side was saidin but wasnt it only men that went to seal up the Dark One? so there wasnt any female Aes Sedai there to use saidar, and wouldnt saidin & saidar both be white being a sort of good power in a way. This could maybe explain h…

OK, so recently I've been listening to a lot of music that reminds me of WoT in some way. I thought it would be fun to post some that are particularly relevant to either characters or just the tone of the series. Please add your own!! Tone and Nations: Andor, Two Rivers, and The Series In General: best expressed in new age Irish Celtic, such as Sleepsong by Secret Garden (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J2lVnT65pw), Celtic Women, and Enya. Also, Tudor music such as Greensleeves ( ) or Pastime with Good Companyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vottDdrRSVk Aiel: the Children of Dune soundtrack such as Inama Nushif (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znJda…

Hi all! I'm new here so if this has been discussed I apologize Something doesn't quite add up for me concerning Herid Fel and Rand's conversations (5th or 6th book) Fel said that by the time the Age of Legends (2nd Age I think?) comes back around the Dark One's prison has to be whole again, the way the Creator made it. He then says that man cannot replicate the Creator's work. So how on earth (or Randland, Seanchan or w/e) is the prison supposed to be whole again? Unless the Creator takes a hand, which he said he wouldn't in the first book (assuming that was his voice at the end), there's no way for the Bore to be properly resealed is there? …

In TGH was there referances to two dif. types of shadow spawn that we dont see for a while, well one we see in the next book but the other we dont see till LOC. The first one is a Grey Man and the second is the Gholam. I see the referance to the Gholam in Lord Barthans death seeing how he was found torn limb from limb in his bedroom much like Queen Tylin was.

  13. What that implies for the Sanchean Empire? I know she is not about to do that but it may happen while angry or afraid!

I am curious as to the nature of the longevity of channelers. I will take for example, Morgase Trakand. She can channel.. though her ability is basically non-existant, she has managed to embrace the One Power however fleetingly. Since she has not been bound by the Oath Rod she will not suffer a premature death. I believe that in the Age of Legends, Aes Sedai lived for centuries, up to around 700-900 years I assume. So, is Morgase's contact with the One Power enough to grant her the longevity of Aes Sedai before their finding of the Oath Rod? Or must there be a more sustained use of the One Power for that longevity to come into play? For instance, like the w…

I seem to have a fascination of a sort with the Power wrought weapons. Ashandarei - Has Ravens engraved in it's blade. Power Wrought swords - Have herons engraved in the blade. Justice - Has nothing. There is 1 Ashandarei that we know of, it has Ravens engraved in the blade normally associated with evil- but not necessarily. I don't think it was made in Thakandar, Aes Sedai would know. There is 1 Power wrought Sword "Justice" with no engraving in the blade. Do you think Hawkwing new Justice was power Wrought?....I don't see how he could not, it never needed sharpening. Kinda hypercritical. Unless he never used it. There are numerous heron mark …

I'm currently on a reread of Winters Heart, and I noticed that Lan was wearing his sword at his hip, while I had thought he wore it on his back in earlier books. I'm probably mistaken, but did Lan used to wear his sword on his back? For that matter, where do people of different lands prefer to wear their swords?

The strike at Shaoul ghul was said to capture and seal away all of the forsaken + the DO. Yet, short after this, when LTT had killed his friend and family, Ishamael shows up and brings him back to lucidity. Also Ishamael is said to have corrupted the Seanchan prophecy during the time which he was sealed away. If he have done all these things, and not being fully sealed, shouldn't he have been aged like Aginor and Balthamel? (they were fully sealed, but in the outter layers of the prison) If someone knows what I have misunderstood, or how these things can all be please tell me.

There are other tales intermingled...you can skip them or enjoy them, too. ;) Actually, I just looked...you have to skip posts 12 through 15 to get back to the next Jake and Sandy post. Hope that's not too inconvenient. RJ did that in the series...get me going on one story then jump to a different one t…

It has to be huge, as large as the lands south of it. If the blight is going, and has, spew out hordes of trollocs that have a chance at overwhelming the armies of Light, that is a massive number. And all of those trollocs have to live somewhere before they come out. They have to train somewhere. They have to have enough land to supply and feed them all. We assume their primary diet is meat and meat takes much more room to raise than plants do. They have to have enough resources to create their weapons and armor and that means mines for ore, coal, forests for wood/charcoal In the early books they talked about the different tribes of trollocs, are eac…

  24. Hi @ll, there are plenty of darkfriends in Randland. I always wondered why you would want to become a darkfriend. After all those people were not born as darkfriends. And I think that there is a good reason not to become one: Friendship. It is unlikely that you encounter friendship along darkfriends. They are more likely to kill each othe due to the competition between them. No one to trust, no friends. This sounds awfully frustrating. Of course beeing a darkfriend opens up better opportunities to humiliate and torture other people. Or have other questionable kinds of power over them. I can see that for a sadist it's quite a good idea to swear to the dark one. But …

I'm sure someone may have already posted this idea. I am not being a griefer, I assure you. I brought this up a few books ago and it didn't met with a lot of support. I believe that the new book reinforces my idea. Here it is: Rand is not, by himself, the Dragon Reborn. Rand, Matt and Perrin together are. The visions the 3 have when they think of the others is not only because they are ta'veren. they are the same being in three bodies. Each has displayed a piece of being the Dragon. Each will/has fulfilled some of the prophecies. Most obvious is Matt, not Rand, marrying the Daughter of the Nine Moons. The prophecy about Callandor is another example. Rand couldn'…

Forgive me if this is in the wrong place, or has been previously discussed. I could not find any posts relating to the questions I have. Our international man of mystery Thom Merrilin seems, in my interpretation, a little dodgy. Throughout the series, RJ forshadows alot of events to come. I've recently begun my first re-read of the series, and it really stood out to me Lan's suspiciousness of Thom in the Two Rivers: Lan speaking to Bran al'Vere and Moiraine in tEotW. p104: "I do not like that man. There is something about him I don't trust. I did not see a hair of him last night." "He was there," Bran said, watching Moiraine uncertainly. "He …

My sister just began reading the series. Her fantasy reading up to this point has basically been the Harry Potter series (her all-time favorite), the Percy Jackson stuff, the Eregon stuff and of course the Twilight series. She just turned 30, has two young children and teaches 1st and 2nd grade, which should help to explain her preference for 'less mature' reading up to this point. Its really been more a matter of exposure. At any rate, I've gotten her into this series at long last, and she's having to get her mind around the idea of something so much more epic, something less immediately gratifying, and (half-way through the second book), she's having to go slow in …
