I've been reading a lot lately and for my birthday this last weekend I asked my Father for only a book. When he asked which, I told him to choose. He brought home The Eye Of The World. Needless to say I started in right away and as of last night I am officially one book in to this 13 or 14 book series. It was fantastic and I plan on picking up the second book tomorrow. I have a few questions though. No complaints. Just questions. The cords that are attatched to himself, the Forsaken and Ba'alzamon etc etc. Those are the cords that follow a person through their life that make up the pattern corrrect? (That's what I gathered but to my knowledge it was never …

I promise I'm not getting kickbacks or commissions (or even a discount) but thanks to a job change and a new, really long commute to and from work I signed up for what is a basically Netflix for audiobooks: www.simplyaudiobooks.com. I can't recommend these audiobooks highly enough. I queued up the Wheel of Time series first and am already halfway through Lord of Chaos. I've considered purchasing these in the past but they typically run over $60 a book! The books are read by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading with Kramer reading the sections told from a male character's point of view and Reading the female. They are both excellent narrators to a wonderful job o…

I've been wondering this for a while ???. Do we KNOW of any? Were there any Aiel mentioned that are of the same clan and/or sept as his father(I forget if Janduin's sept was mentioned)? In tLOC, Sulin called Rand her 1st brother but I don't remember any ceremony like when Aviendah and Elayne adopted each other. Any thoughts? :)

Did anyone notice how rich the two rivers is? Like theres gold silver iron loads of farms carpet makers and a whole assortment of other trades that produce goods, the two rivers could be one of the richest places if it had time to develop

Doing a re-read and came across this. Lord of Chaos Chapter:14: Dreams and Nightmares Its during the time when a bubble of evil pops in Salidar. The Aes Sedai there think it is Sammael attacking them, so they begin linking. Nicola kind of blacked out, because she doesn't remember saying anything. The others just kind of brush it off as though she is just tired. Has this been discussed, yet? If so point me in the right direction. If not? I can't quite make it all out. Obviously it hints at wars even after Tarmon Gai'don, which reminds me of the wars that carved the nations after Artur Hawkwing. Also a bit about guardians and servants …

Apologies if this answer is obvious or already discussed, but was it ever known why Thom was in the Two Rivers in the beginning? He had never been there before so why then? A specific reason or just a pull from the pattern?

In tFoH at the end of Ch 10 it says: When he held it up to the afternoon night, he could make it out what she had written. Soon a third pigeon was on its way, heading in still another direction Now the context of this quote is after Elayne and Nynaeve are almost captured by Macura and she sends a letter to the WT (post breaking) and the guy who tends the pigeons goes and sends another message. . . whom do you think he sent it too and why? also as a second point: Therin Lugay, do we see him later in the books? he is mentioned heading to Altara or Murandy

So am I the only person who feels like Perrin is an incomplete character. I think it is mostly from the early books. When he works so hard to repress his Wolfbrother urges, he pushes the Hardness that Mat and Rand have under the rug. So really it's like Faile and Perrin together are a complete character but not separately. Rand also shows this after LoC, he contains all the hardness, and Min all of the humanity. Any other characters you feel are incomplete.

For the sake of this discussion lets assume the One Power is a liquid and can be measured as a quantity. For example: let say the minimum amount a full Aes Sedai must be able to channel is 50 gallons. Someone like Morgase who is very weak and can manage lighting a candle or some other very simple task can only channel 1 gallon. This will apply to male or female channelers Using this as a guide rate the channeling ability of the major players in the story. Rand,Moraine, Egwene, Nynaeve, Elyane, the various Forsaken, the Wise Ones. My take on this is as follows: Rand 10,000 gallons Moraine 3,000 Egwene 4200 Nynaeve 6500 Elyane 3800 The Forsaken will range f…

This may sound rather too vague a question. But if anyone knows, please tell me. The chapter starts with Mat trying to convince Aes Sedai and Sea Folk windfinders that they need to leave Ebou Dar early. And after all the show, when they get ready to leave, Mat finds Olver missing. So he informs the others and asks them to leave while he would catch up with them later. Now here is the paragraph I have question about: "As he was turning to go, Nynaeve caught his sleeve. "Remember the storm, Mat. It's going to break soon; I know it. You take care of yourself, Mat Cauthon. Do you hear me? Tylin has directions for the farm, when you get back with Olver." Nodding, he mad…

So I picked up the Eye of the World a few weeks ago just for something to read. As a lotr fan I immediately noticed the similarities between the two but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The thing just oozed potential to become a great story. I went right back out and picked up books 2-10, read through them like wildfire up to Winters Heart and hit a brick wall half way into it. I literally threw the book down in disgust at the chapter ("a lily in winter" I think it was called) where Aviendha, Elayne and Min finally confront Rand. I mean wtf, seriously. I guess part of the blame should go to myself for tricking myself into thinking that the situation would be resolved i…

  14. Ok Mates, while hanging out mostly at my parents' old house assisting in helping to take care of my stepdad, who is a bit under the weather these days, I have thought on this subject quite deeply...Sometimes, when access to The World Wide Web/Information Super Highway is limited, and you're missin all your pals out there in cyberspace and wonderin how theyre doing, thinkin is all you got lol!!! Ok...We now officially know that Matrim Cauthon of Two-Rivers Fame is NOT The ''Hornsounder'' no more ... as his link to it was broken through death...The Late Mr Jordan many times confirmed this and that Cauthon DID die by getting ZAPPED by Sammael's Magic Lightening that tim…

RJ hit the nail on the head with what it is that i want in a series. desctiption that isnt unnecessarily wordy. just enough of the right words. and characters. boy do i love characters. i really realized that fact while reading Rath and Storm, the compliation novel that is the weatherlight block from MTG. Ertai is just so damn consceded it makes me giggle.

Not sure if this has been discussed, sorry if it has. Been thinking about that the fact that as the DO's power has been increasing the pattern has started to kinda fall apart, you know with all rooms and hallways getting shuffled around in the White Tower etc. Well not sure if we've seen it mentioned but this must be happening all over Randland and not just in buildings, that wouldn't make much sense. So say trees may have moved or a stream changing its course for instance. Now as the DO's strength is growing we've seen parts of the White Tower actually switch places completely. My theory is that over the course of the next two books we might see bigger places c…

This is an idea that has come to me several times and is something that would need support from this community to gain some momentum. How many people would pick up a massive leather bound book with metal crimped corners, stamped with the snake-wheel symbol that contained the final three books in a single copy? A super collectors edition per say. TOR could use a potion of proceeds to go towards an amyloidosis research group. What better way to give our thanks to Jordan for breaking the fantasy trilogy in such an amazing way and giving back? At the very least I think that TOR should donate a certain percentage of sales on the last three books to an amyloidosis res…

We know Rand is the reborn of Lews Therin. What if Rand is also a descendant of Lews Therin? What if Andor's Queens (and heirs) were also descendants of Lews Therin? What if the Aiel of 3rd Age were/are also descendants of Lews Therin? There have been survivors of multiple-killing incidents told of or happening in the main series. Perrin was told that his entire family was killed; yet later in the book, a cousin appears. I recall somewhere in the books telling that Hawkwing's descendants were either killed or sent away. Though Mayene's Firsts were descendants of a cousin of the Seanchan rulers. At least one of Lews Therin's descendants might have mana…

Something’s been bugging me since I began reading the WoT series, and I couldn’t figure it out. Today I realised what it was. My wife is a writer, and a few years ago she researched and interviewed for an article on ‘female domination’. When most people hear those words, they think of the archetypal dominatrix, all leather, whips and chains etc. But there’s a whole subsection of that community that believes in the female being the dominant one in the relationship between husband and wife or boyfriend and girlfriend, without recourse to the overtly sexual and pornographic stereotype of dominant women. Reading the literature they produce, they believe that wo…

I've been wondering this ever since that TV program, "Dancing with the Stars" was on ???(I don't know how extensively that was broadcast so I'm sorry if you don't know what I'm talking about). I personally didn't watch it but my Supervisor did, as well as others in my team at work, and they always talked about it. When I saw a glimpse at an article in a newspaper about the dancing event @ the Olympics, I was reminded of this thought. Of the main characters we know all three boys like to dance. Mat is certainly good at it and Rand has been complemented by two main characters(if Rand gets a prosthesis made for his hand there's no reason he couldn't participate), so …

Does anyone really like the book? Would anyone put it in their top 5 WOT of time books? Does anyone remember their reaction and thoughts on the book after finishing it. Until yesterday Crossroads was the only book I didn't have un the series. I rectified that and bought it yesterday, thinking to myself it can't be as bad as I remember. Only half way through the prolouge and I'm beginiing to doubt myself. All the point of views. I don't care what all these Aes Sedai think! I remember reading it when it came out. If I were Moiraine Damodred 1 What must I do to assist The Dragon Reborn in defeating The Dark One? 2 Who will I marry? 3 Do I have to kill The Daughter of The Night for The Dragon Reborn to win? 24. Hi. I've called you all together on a very serious matter. You see one of the gods, a fellow named Emperor, decided some years ago to rain down on Dragonmount a special kind of love. It was not world peace, or a cure for poverty, or any of that other riff raff, but rather the only method of love that is important in our increasingly secular world. Awards. Now mortals have played with this before. The Academy Awards. The Oscars. But Empy took this concept, and perfected it. The key, you see, was to make it all about us. That is what the Empy's are, they are awards about us. Best poster. Best new member. Best Jibber-jabberer (that last ones not a real one, but it…

Ok, I was reading something on Theoryland and this hit me really, really hard: The lions sing and the hills take flight. The moon by day, and the sun by night. Blind woman, deaf man, jackdaw fool. Let the Lord of Chaos rule. The lions sing and the hills take flights - this is reference to Lions of Andor. But can "the hills take flight" reference to Black Hills? There is a discussion on the theoryland http://www.theoryland.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2986 In any event, I don't think that this is just a riddle. 27. i know there are TONS of posts about Asmo! But i'm posting this new thread b/c people for the most part are avoiding the "Where" and i'd like this thread to only deal with this topic if possible I believe that RJ's statement that Asmo's killer can be deduced by figuring out the manner in which death is absolutely final based on a unique circumstance of "how" AND "where" you die. if this can be figured out, perhaps then it is IO who killed Asmo. THe theories out there do not consider that the "and" followed by "WHERE" renders null and void ALL theories that do not REQUIRE a specific "WHERE" necessary to the reason why he can't be ressurected. t…

  28. I have noticed that in the last year or so one of the more often discussed themes of wot has been about how ''Hard'' The Dragon Reborn has become. How dangerously Hard. It got me thinking. Also, one thing azrael said in another Thread got me thinking. Rand is like the epitome of the poor guy that just keeps getting piled on and on and on till you just have to wonder how much more the poor guy can take. So. What Do You Rank As The MAIN EVENTS That Pi$$ed Off Rand The Most And Were MOST Responsible For Making The Dragon Reborn As ''Hard'' As He Has Become? 1 The Box...It can't really be argued that this is the biggest one, I don't think, but I think some oth…

Her skin is smoother than the finest silk, her bosom fine and well-rounded. Her hips are....” Rand al'Thor: “I know she is pretty. What are you doing?” Aviendha: “I am describing her.
