Does anyone have any theories on why these two are linked in the legends and such?

I finished re-reading Eye of the World recently and there was something that stuck out this time around that I missed all the other times. Rand thought he recognized the Ways when he entered them. If there was light, I'm picturing how the Ways would look and it seems like the dream he had with all the bridges leading to platforms in a maze. He was being hunted then, and he could see his hunter and could count how many turnings it would take for it to get to his location. I tried to find where the dream was located in the book but didn't have much luck with it. Anything to the idea? I wanted to re-read the dream sequence but couldn't find it to confirm.

There are so many tiny details that foreshadow or don't seem to have meaning at the time, in the WoT. For example one of my favorite little things is when Mat and Rand are at that inn in Four Kings and are trying to escape, and lightning struck the barred window, allowing them to leave. The first time I went through I didn't even realize that was from Rand channeling. I mean it seems so obvious now, but it didn't at the time. What are some of your favorite little things like this from the books like this?

In the earlier books, a big point was made out of fighting Myrddraal. And if Trollocs fighting with that Myrddraal were linked to it, they often died when the Myrddraal were linked to it. The myrddraal found they could control the Trollocs easier by being linked to them. Isn't this similar to the Warder bond? One of the central themes of the book is the Yin-Yang: and this could easily be the "black" half of the circle. Yes? No? Bad idea?

Ishimael made reference to the fact that he wispered in Artur Hawkwings ear and sent his son and his armies across the seas, and in doing so he secured two fates, one that has come to pass, and one that is yet to come. (paraphrased) now I presume the first fate is the destruction of Artur Hawkwings Empire, what is the second fate?

Good evening all! I've read these forums for a little bit now but this is my first time posting. I'm rereading the series after The Gathering Storm reignited my obsession. Any I'm currently about halfway through The Shadow Rising and just came across an interesting comparison by Jordan. There has always been some hinting that Thom is Elayne's father. As the series has gone on though I just sort of figured that he was just there because of his relationship with Morgase, rather than actually being her father. In chapter 20, Winds Rising, pg 332, Elayne and Thom are chatting on Wavedancer and she's trying to figure out how she knows him. Jordan writes this from …

Hey all, In rereading through the series I have paid more attention to connections. We realize that Mat and Perrin are obviously direct relations to Manetheren, however, who belongs to what family. Is Mat related to the King or Perrin? It is my belief that Mat is, mainly because we don't hear a lot about Perrin having flashbacks to the days of Manetheren. We also know that Mat's ability to fight comes from experiences of other leaders throughout time whereas Perrin relies a lot on wolf ideas, not intentionally of course. Mat also has the ability to understand and speak the old tongue. While some of this comes from the red door in Rhuidean, he was saying frases of it i…

In LoC Rand tells Taim to embrace the OP as much as he could hold and the result is Rand saying he could almost hold as much as he could unaided. does this mean that Taim could be able to take down some forsaken?

been posting on other WoT boards, lurking here, and reading WoT since 1995. re-read a bunch of stuff in TFoH, and LoC regarding Sammael, Graedanl, Rahvin, and Lanfear, and a bunch of pieces, particularly in TFoH, suddenly fell into place in my head that pointed rather strongly to Sammael as Asmo's killer. and depending on interpretation a few key passages in LoC, especially considering RJ purposely wanted to hide it as a mystery but still have it be solvable, it all falls into place rather neatly. i know it's a overly flagellated, reeking piece of dead equine carcass for most WoT posters now, but thought i might find someone around here that might think it wa…

Hello WOT fans, I am about to start The Wheel of Time in Unabridged Audiobook form. I started the series about 15 years ago then I stopped because I decided to wait until the series was finished. I realize it's not quite finished but it's close enough and I want to get started. I plan on starting from the beginning again but I'm still curious to remember where I was up to before. The last thing I remember was that one of the characters was sitting under a tree and had went into some sort of dream world? Can anyone remember what book that was? Thank you in advance for your help.

I just finished tPoD yesterday and personally found the death of Fedwin Morr to be one of the most emotional scenes in the entire series. I just want ot know the general reactions of others to his scene becuase quite honestly I found it very sad, never has any scene in any book made me want to cry as much as this scene. This quote escpecially hit me hard. I think it was the image of a young man, I don't think he was even 20 but I'm not entirley sure, breaking down because of madness, yet still loyal and able to cling on to that one command that he was to protect Min. I remember invisioning him franticly pulling bricks out of the wall and trying to convince…

It had been awhile since I read New Spring, and so I had forgotten that Moiraine and Siuan both feel a tingle when the other channels. This is only mentioned once or twice in the book, and they say it is quite common for novices to feel a tingle when someone they spend a lot of time around channels; it goes away after awhile, but Siuan states that it never did with her and Moiraine. We've only seen Moiraine and Siuan together once in all the books (tGH when they confront Rand and talk with Verin) and it wasn't mentioned there. However, if it didn't go away by the time it was supposed to, does it still continue presently? I wonder if that could be the way they kn…

Hello, joined up about a month ago or so and have yet to post a proper theory so I thought I'd have a go at it. Hopefully It hasn't been discussed to death before. Right there are two things that always bugged me when the subject of the Dark One came up. 1. His prison, exactly how is it structured and how can it be that even though he supposedly broke out of it in the Age of Legends is Randland still ticking along. 2. Why would a Divine, Immortal all powerful being care a whit about the world in the first place. I have formulated a theory that would explain it (I think) but I need to digress slightly to give the proper background to the theory. (sorry…

Morgase is the Queen of Andor, but her daughter is never called princess, but an heiress to the throne. How would they call Elayna's sister if she had one? A twin sister... Who would be the heiress in that case? The older one? What do u think?

[Note that there is a Mat subplot spoiler for A Crown of Swords] I was wondering if what happens to Mat in the chapter "Bread and Cheese" with Tylin was a big problem for anyone else. I found myself seriously disturbed by the events, which basically was a rape that was told as though it was supposed to be funny. I really don't understand Jordan here. If you replace Tylin with, say king Paitar, and replace Mat with Nynaeve, and then tell the exact same story, with the exact same dialogue: then afterward: Not so funny anymore, is it? Jordan spent a lot of time later with Mat's internal dialogue making it seem like it was just that Mat…

In re-reading the Camelyn sequence in The Eye Of The World, I was reminded of the "Hammer's Slammers" novella Counting the Cost, which David Drake wrote as a sci-fi treatment of the revolt against the Emperor Justinian. Particularly in the "one side wears red, the other side wears white/black" aspect. The parallel is obvious, and I'm wondering... Given that both men were (are, in Drake's case) graduates of The Citadel, and would have been contemporaries, what, if any, relationship did they have? Or were both drawing from the same historical reference, and the parallel is simple coincidence? I'm not aware of any color-based distinction between the supporters of J…

I just check the ticker for Tower's of Midnight on Brandon's page and noticed that it still sits @ 82%. This is exactly where it was the last time I checked which was several weeks ago. Is there something going on that I don't know about? I don't want to be pushy but at one point Brandon had wanted to turn in a manuscript by the first of January. I always figured that this was an optimistic estimate but now that we are heading February with 18% left to go I'm beginning to wonder what's up?

Just noticed what appears to be a consistent typo in LoC chapter 42 (The Black Tower). There are a number of references to saidar which should be saidin, such as (p.777): "Two men in black coats, younger than Rand, came running and bent over Tolvar, then hesitated, glancing at Taim. After a moment, Rand felt saidar fill them; flows of Air lifted a limp Tolvar, and the pair trotted away with him floating between them" Maybe this was fixed in a later edition?

This thread is to talk about our favorites of this series and also about stuff we would like to become done for this series. The poll contains both books that are released and will be released; also some that might never be. Some points of clarification: -an omnibus is a one-book collection by the same author and/or about the same topic -old version of guide, that has the pictures of the first 7 books -newer version of guide, that has the pictures of the first 8 books

I'm rereading The Dragon Reborn, and I found a bit I never noticed before. On page 67 in Shadows Sleeping, Perrin is in TAR, and is being taunted by the Forsaken. He finds himself in "a gilded helmet, shaped like a lion's head, sat like it belonged there. Gold leaf covered his ornately hammered breastplate, and gold-work embellished the plate and mail on his arms and legs. Only the axe at his side was plain. A voice - his own - whispered in his mind that he would take it over any other weapon, had carried it a thousand times in a hundred battles." Are there any other hints at whether Perrin might actually be someone reborn?

So, both Berelain and Tuon claim to be heirs of Artur Hawkwing, right? So do we think a confrontation is inevitable? Would the Seanchan want to kill Berelain, or revere her? For that matter, my memory of later books - specifically The Plot That Would Not Die aka Perrin angsting about Faile - is pretty hazy. Didn't Berelain meet some Seanchan? What were their reactions?

Long time reader but 1st time poster. So, why are the audio books (CD) so expensive? Each book costs from $35 to $60. I saw one of the later books on Amazon for over $100. Am I looking in the wrong places? Thanks!

I have never before encountered such irritating main characters. They are weak, stupid, and totally incompetent. *Plot holes you could float an ocean liner through. *Why does Jordan have to keep REPEATING himself? By book 8 of the series I don't need to keep hearing how Rand doesn't understand women. I get it after the 207th time you said it so shut up already. *This series could have easily been reduced to 6 or at the most 8 books and would have been much more fast paced and exciting for it. *Why does Jordan have to REPEAT himself so much? *Inconsistencies abound throughout the series. Often completely contradicting something said only pages…
