  1. Started by Rinkai,

When in the mirror in Book 2, Rand notice a bunch on very narrow cloud lines. To me these air the marks left behind by jets. But this makes no sense because everything but grohlm are supposed to be dead. whats going on here? Second, I think that Lanfear brought those grohlm. They seemed to pop-up in times way too convenient for her. -Rin

So what if when Moiraine pushed Lanfear through the doorway, could she have been granted 3 gifts like mat? I think she did, we know she saw possibilities leading up to the doorway and possibilities when she was saved, so why not when she went through which probably means she knew exactly what to do when she got there. so here are my 3 and the price 1) immune to fire (from the dream egwene saw of thom pulling moiraine's head stone thing out of a fire) 2) no idea 3) still no idea this is just coming to me, don't judge me The price- that she has to say in their world and will not try and leave on her own ( this is because i do not think those finns what people…

The progress ticker on Brandon Sandersons website has begun creeping upward again. Jumped two points today after being stuck at 71% forever. He says release may be closer to the end of November 2010. Good to see things are moving forward. :)

So, we all know that men can feel goosebumps when women channel (unless they mask the ability). And, earlier I read a post where someone said something about women detecting men.... We know that AS found a new weave to detect a man channeling (somewhere in Bk 10 or 11)... But are there any other ways of detecting another person channeling? Now, I know women can see the glow, and sense when a woman is channeling. (men can only sense when the men embrace and cannot feel how strong they are until they actually take hold of Saidin).... But, in New Spring, Moiraine feels a tingle when Siuan channels, and she remarks how this is odd and that the tingling shou…

So we have had Nynaeve and Moggy, Nynaeve roasting Rahvin (though that wasn't a real duel) but still.. Alivia and Cyndane, Rand and Lanfear (both times Rand lost), Rand and Rahvin, Sammael, Ishmmael. Which other high-level channeler would you like to see duel each other? And who do you think would win? I would like one final showdown between Moggy and Nynaeve.. Lol. Oh, and though Egwene isn't really Forsaken strength, but I think I would like her facing down Mesaana, probably with an angreal.

  8. Started by Erewan,

A good friend of mine is a professor of philosophy, and he just edited a book called "Heroes and Philosophy." There is a chapter in there about identity, and if you're not familiar with the subject I highly recommend you pick up the book. His book talks about how Nathan's memories are put into Syler's body... so who is he then? Nathan or Syler. Getting to the point... and back to the Wheel of Time. It occurred to me that there is a similar question of identity in the WoT series in general... about Rand and the voice in his head. I had an opportunity to chat with Kyle a bit this afternoon, and I'll post the contents of our discussion. You may find it interesting…

"Slowly Tam drew the weapon; firelight played along the gleaming length. It was nothing at all like the plain, rough blades Rand had seen in the hands of merchants' guards. No gems or gold adorned it, but it seemed grand to him, nonetheless. The blade, very slightly curved and sharp on only one edge, bore another heron etched into the steel. Short quillons, worked to look like braid, flanked the hilt." Now I've searched the forum on this topic and came up with a large discussion of what most sword topics usually degenerate into katana vs european swords. That is not what I want to happen here by the way, with the utmost respect. Essentially, I am wanting to …

I picked up the audio book for TSR during my re-read. I'm loving it. A cool new experience. However, I've noticed something that I didn't before: All the names seem to rhyme with one another. Egwene, Elayne, Moiraine Aiel, Faile Perrin, Verin Is there something I'm missing? Or just one author's preference for pronounciation?

  13. Hello all and welcome, I found an earlier thread that only got 8 comments because I guess people don't find this to be an exciting topic but I beg to differ. I think that figuring out or gaining a picture of the different Randland nationalities that one can better see the characters and lends a great imagery tool to the reader, it has for me anyway. So of to the Races, pun intended. I will be naming a Randland nationality and what i believe is the MOST ACCURATE COMPARISON IN MY OPINION to one of our real world races of people with a link to a picture i find represents my selection. Not all will be posted at once but i will continue to do these till …

I started reading rhe WOT books at about the age of 17 and I'm now 30, however I have found that characters I liked back when I was 16 were those characters that were around my own age, eg Egwene, Aviendha, Rand. However I have found that as I have gotten older my character preferences have gotten older too. When I was in my mid-20s I liked Nyneave, now I am 30 I am gravitating towards the more mature characters. I often wonder if our preferences for heroric characters are based on what we would aspire to be, however when a character is a teenager and we are older it feels like that time is past and it is something we could never be because we are now too old. …

  19. So far, this is the only "flaw" I've found in the "reality" of the wheel of time world: given that unbound channellers live for hundreds of years, and that the AS "miss" a great many wilders . . . shouldn't there be hundreds or even thousands of very, very old village wisdoms out there? For example, it appears that Doral Barran probably could channel/was a wilder, and she was the "oldest woman in the two rivers" -- shouldn't she have been almost ridiculously old by two-rivers standards? Why don't we see anyone commenting on that kind of long life? Or do we and I've missed it? Is this explained anywhere, or was it explained in a question/answer somewhere that I've mi…

What are your favorite sayings taken from the books? I find that RJ had some real folksy wisdom scattered throughout his books and one of the sayings that rang most true to me was this one: "Men will forget, but will never forgive... women will forgive, but will never forget." Since reading that line I've actually used it more than once. Any others out there that struck you guys as particularly insightful, interesting or funny?

Anyone got any tips or tricks on how to find a first edition of the hardback? I have first editions of ALL my others, but I recently found that my EotW was not a first edition. It's not a huge thing, but it's kinda cool to have hardbacks that are all first editions. It's also the reason I didn't try and get one of the books with Brandon's signature, because I didn't want to have to then go back and try and find 12 others (including NS)with RJ signatures, which by this time would probably be faked anyhoo.

Does anyone remember about the time Elayne was going through that Ter 'angreal cache (I think it was it Cairherien?)She found one that felt warm to the touch and then she blacked out and no one would tell her what happened. What do you think happened? I have an idea but it would be way out of character for WoT. -Rin

  25. Well, this might be weird, but, for me, it may have been Mangin. Like Berelain said in the book, a man willingly walking to his own Hanging??? - INTENSE!!! Moirane Damodred's ''Death'' was an intense moment for me, but for alot of DIFFERENT reasons. That scene just had soooooooo many freaking IMPLICATIONS!!! - The way it messed Rand up...the way Lanfear went through the doorway...the fact that it was an example of the bitter irony of one woman (Moirane) paying the price because Rand couldn't bring himself to harm another (Lanfear) woman. I felt REALLY bad for Thom when Dena bit it. I also felt really bad for Mat when Tylin did - sorta a turning point f…

  28. As always, if this has previously been hit upon and discussed to death, my apologies...Saturday night I spent some time reading Mr Jordan's Blogs, which I had never really read much of before, and found the following, spoken by RJ, in his October 2005 Blog here on Dragonmount: ''For HotW-Moiraine, yes, the bearded man ter’angreal could be said to be my Alfred Hitchcock moment. In KoD, you’ll learn what it does.'' HuH??? Did I miss something? What does it DO??? ... I have read KOD a thousand times...How did I miss this? WHAT did I miss? Did Rand find the lil dude? Whats it do??? And, of course, what the HECK was the KOD Alfred Hitchcock Bearded Man Moment???! Is …

This thread is to be all about the horse characters in this series. Talk about them, joke about them, whatever. To start I shall summarize some of their histories. Bela:: -In beginning of series she was ridden by Rand. (Eye of World) -From Two Rivers until Shadar Logoth, she was ridden by Egwene. (Eye of World) -Between Shadar Logoth and Caemlyn, Egwene & Perrin took turns riding her. (Eye of World) -From Caemlyn until Fal Dara she was ridden by Egwene. (Eye of World) Also during the Aes Sedia return to White Tower (Great Hunt), and again during her escape from White Tower and her return (Great Hunt & Dragon Reborn). -Since Shadow Rising, she…

  30. This is a Spin Off from General Forum about Fantasy Characters with Certain Trademark Weapons... I got to thinking, which always hurts my head to do, buuuut... 1 How would you rate Mat's skill level with his Throwing Knives vs his skill level with his Ashanderi ??? Basically, if you were mat Cauthon and in a tight spot and you could only have one of your two trademark weapons that you excelled with (Knives or Ashanderi), which would you want to be fighting for your life with - if YOU were Mat??? 2 For that matter, would you rate Mat the equal of Thom when fighting with knives? 3 Lastly...Would you rate Min an equal in Knife-Fighting skill with The…
