  2. I was just thinking today how awesome it would be if there was a character who was completely a figment of Rand's imagination - brought on by the madness of course. I have read all the books several times, but I do not have all the details committed to memory they way some people here do. Is there any character(s) who would qualify to be only in Rand's imagination? A character who has never had a POV chapter and who ONLY appears in Rand's POVs? Obviously, I am not meaning Lews Therin, I mean is there a flesh and blood character walking around who might be just a schizophrenic hallucination. Just curious.

  3. Fun Question: What would happen if Mat diced against another Tave'ran???! Anyway, Ive often wondered...Mat and Rand are very complex in alot of the misunderstandings in just what causes them to be the way they are. I guess the FULL List of Factors that Make Mat Mat and Rand Rand really should read as: 1 What was done to them in the Rhuidean-Finns Doorway...2 Being a Tav'eran...3 Having The Manatherenese 'Old Blood' running through them ... 4 Having (or NOT, having, as I argue - sorry, lol, ill never be convinced on this one as there is still ZERO Evidence to support it, despite the HUNDREDS of Threads arguing for it, here, over the years, lol) 5 M…

  4. Started by Thorn,

Over the past few days I've been re-reading the high points of the books and puzzling over things I hadn't been able to figure out yet, anticipating the upcoming release. The main thing I've been puzzling over are the "ripples" we see in Knife of Dreams. There are two scenes with the ripples, one from Perrins' and one from Faile's point of view; at the time, they're about a day's ride apart (forty miles at a guess?), and according to the timeline, they're about seven days apart (presuming the timeline is correct). The common theory is that they're "bubbles of evil," but I don't think this makes sense. For one thing, we've never seen bubbles of evil that precise…

I was discussing this with a friend the other day and thought I'd put it to the forum. What scenes from the books would you like to see illustrated, either as fan art or perhaps professionally done when Tor starts releasing the new covers?

This idea have been bugging me for a while so I thought I should share it, and perhaps see it rip to pieces by the bunch of you. ;) This is my first post (Yup, I made an account just to get this out of my chest), so if I am breaking any rules or posted in the wrong forum, I'm sorry. The idea goes like this, I don't know if this have been thought up already or not, but it is already widely known that there is only one religion in Randland. Varying accounts and perhaps a few distorted facts here and there, but they all say that the Creator is GOOD, and the Dark One is evil. They all say that the Creator made everything and sealed away the Dark One at the mome…

  7. I have seen a lot of discussion around here on the kill/do not kill order on Rand in both the early and latter books. It never seems that we truely get to the bottom of things. Having started the Dragon Reborn on my reread I've noticed a few things, and would like it if anyone could fill in the blanks. And feel free to discuss the kill/do not kill order on Rand in the following books as well, it's become very interesting to me. tEotW: So this seems to be all Ishy. Reading it now, I think most would agree that had Ishy wanted to kill the Dragon he could have. We do not really know if the DO has any part of these orders, since Ishy has been doing his own thing for…

  8. Started by Sab,

Here is something that i have wondered about. With the Forsaken loose wouldn't it be in the DO's interest to set them and his armies loose now? The land is hardly in any shape to stop a Forsaken lead Trolloc war. With the numbers the DO seems to have, 100,000 attacked Rand at the farm. Seems to me the longer he waits the harder it will be to succeed. The more Ashaman are trained (sure some will fight for the DO)but the pose a threat to him now. Had his armies just massed all out at the start, assaults the size of the one at Tarwins Gap in EOTW along the borderlands, Rand could never of gained any support with everyone fighting for their lives and Rand would of been …

In 'The Fires of Heaven' Elayne, as part of the travaling circus, uses air to walk the high rope. To my mind this comes awfully close to flying. Is it possible because the weave is tethered to the high rope?

  15. You know, it just occured to me that despite reading the books upwards of twenty times i never payed attention to one moment. Specifically the moment when the Wonder Girl's get captured by bandits who try to sell them to Myrdraal. I always enjoyed this moment, but i never really paid attention to the implications. Specifically, Myrdraal making an active effort to capture Aes Sedai. Furthermore, its spoken of with familiarity. The men in that group know, and have known, of this interest for sometimes. The whole incident has a feel of having done this before. Its probably minor, but concider the ultimate possible reality of this. Only 450 sisters have been accurat…

  16. Started by Arkelias,

Let's assume you are one of the Forsaken (pick one). EotW has just happened and you are now free to wreak havoc in the name of the Great Lord once more. What would you have done differently than the Forsaken in the books? In general I think the forsaken made a far too many mistakes, and did precious little that aided the DO in any meanigful way. If anything they seem borderline incompetent, prone to mad rages (some of them), arrogant and lack even the most basic of tactical sense. The only one two I really liked were Lanfear and Asmodean, because both had clear plans that made sense to me. Personally, if I was any of the male Forsaken I'd have immediately se…

  17. I'm currently writing an analytical comparison of the hero mono myth, from campbell's the hero with a thousand faces, applied to TWoT. For anyone familiar with the idea of the mono myth, or campbell's work your insight would be welcome, I've burnt myself out and some new thoughts and opinions would be refreshing. Due to the length and depth of the series, I'm working mostly from TEotW, TGH, and TDR, also it seems fitting since this was originally coined as a trilogy, and book 3 wraps up the first major plot of the series, Rand taking Callandor and becoming the dragon reborn.

  18. Started by Mighty Chin,

I am currently re-reading the series before the TGS comes out. I've noticed that some Major Characters never get a point of view Chapter or Passage of any consequence. Most notably Moraine and Lan especially Lan considering he's been around longer. Personally I think it's more to do with RJ's story telling and trying to keep information from the reader. I dont even think Siuan actually has a POV until Salidar, most of her chapters were from Min's POV after FOH. Can anyone think of any Major Characters not having meaningful POV's?

  19. Started by Blackhoof,

I wonder what the breaking would have looked like, because for some reason i can't seem to picture a bunch of crazies running around blowing things up. I suppose it is on to big of a scale, and over too much time. But how would they have moved mountains, or raised seas, and changed the geography of the world.... they probably weren't individualy powerful enough to do that, unless they joined together, but theres fat chance of that with no women to link with. And why didn't the women stop them? Surely they could have done something, i know men are stronger, but if bands of linked women roamed around capturing and shielding male Aes Sedai, then maybe something could have ha…

Maybe this is old news but you should look up wheel of time on wikipedia. The extent of information is ridiculous! They're even up-to-date on the story and the entrys all read like facts. Pretty interesting, really.

Sorry, but if it's been discussed before, I can't find it. In general, I have difficulties finding answers to most of my questions on this forum. I don't really know how to use the search function well, it seems. Anyhow, the question is simple: What was the plan that Rand+Bashere+Mat have come up with to take Illian?

Does it ever say what level a fades skill is? In EotW a fade holds its own against Lan before being decapitated and later another kills 7 Sheirians at once. Is there any quotes stating they are equal to a blademaster or are they just hardcore shadowspawn?

  23. Its never explicitly stated what the source of the civil war in Seanchan is, but I think I spotted some foreshadowing I had never noticed before. Just as Rand and Avi are leaving thier little rendezvous to the Seanchan continent, they spot a patrol with two Sul'dam, two Damane, some minor noblility, and curiously, a Seeker. As well as random troops, of course. This Seeker claims to have put not one, but TWO of the Empress' own children to the question, and as a reward was favoured to gaze upon her wonder. So this is no minor Seeker, she seems to be a relatively high flyer in the Seeker ranks. But there were a few lines and minor info drops that make me think. Observe…

Basically this thread is about Rand. But couldnt bring this in other available threads "Be not afraid of greatness: some men are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them." - William Shakespeare. Well we can agree that Rand fall into the category mainly but some can argue 1st option being correct for him.maybe its a combination of both. "The greatest man is he who chooses the right with the most invincible resolution; who resists the sorest temptation from within and without; who bears the heaviest burdens cheerfully; who is calmest in storms, and most fearless under menaces and frowns; whose reliance on truth, on virtue, and o…

And how wonderful is it. I didn't see Egwene resisting the urge to verbally slap Elaida around at all--though I did get that Silviana would be drawn in as a result of the dinner (yay me!) Most of my ideas were formed around the understanding it would be one book, but that's out the window now. How frickan wonderful is that. Surprises, surprises!

  27. The see folks said that they originated from people who, during the breaking commandeered ships they didn't know how to use and fled to the oceans where they stayed until the land was safe again. Those were AOL ships that were kept out of danger. Where are they now?

  28. Started by bmunge,

I'm doing my reread of the series in preparation for TGS and have been working my way through Great Hunt. Is the Horn a Ter'angreal? If you think about it, it's the only magical device in the series that so far hasn't been directly linked to the power. With the Creator not taking direct action in Randland, it seems like it has to be a ter'angreal that affects the dream world. Thoughts?

  29. Started by ROB_88,

in the start TGH rRand tries to escape from the Aes Sedai through the gates but they are clearly closed, but after the fight with the trollocs it is said that the gates have just been ordered to close, and there was no previous order to do so. so who ordered for the gates to be closed before and why didn't the guards mention it when the real order came?

  30. Started by Vordreller,

Shouldn't the Seanchan going for the white tower receive a note saying something along the lines of: "Stop attack, we're at peace with these people now. Signed, Tuon". ?
