Do not read this if you have not read book 11. I still advocate the Bel'al equals Taim theory, based on the concept that Taim was actually "freed" by the Black Ajah, taken to Shayol Ghul and either had his body shared with Bel'al, much the same way Luc/Isam are shared to become Slayer, or that Bel'al was given Taim's body outright. The minor evidence is the knowledge Taim has: knowing all kinds of weapons weaves, knowing the way to test, knowing at least minor weaves of healing, so on. But the best evidences that Taim is at least one of the male Forsaken are how he behaves and speaks. First, he actually leans forward when Rand speaks of the evils of the For…

In TEoTW I noticed an allusion to the Collaseum in Rome-It comes on pg.280 "And a walled place, open to the sky and big enough to have held all of Edmond's Field, surrounded by row on row on row of stone benches?"-when they are in Shadar Logoth. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed more references to places in all of the books?

This is not meant to be a criticism of the later books. God knows there are a lot of valid complaints, but that's not what I wanted to discuss. I always pictured that in the last few books armies of shadowspawn would come pouring out of the blight, and they'd be led by the forsaken and by new dreadlords. I pictured nation after nation falling as Rand struggled desperately to bring the surviving nations together to stem the tide. I picture heroic battles and great deeds, the world pulling together to stave off ultimate destruction. What I did not picture was three books of Perrin chasing Faile, Elayne trying to secure the throne of Andor, and Egwene marching en…

Can't find an old topic on this, so I'll make this one. The flag of Andor is a white lion on a red background, as can be seen here: http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/File:Andor_flag.svg That flag greatly resembles the flag of Flanders. In fact, apart from the colour and the flame coming out of its mouth being a little different, its identical. Have a look at the Dutch(which is the native language of the flanders area) Wiki page: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlaanderen I'm wondering if the Flanders flag served as inspiration. You can also see the flag in this youtube video: At 1:26 It's dutch spoken with English subtitles, explaining Belgium. …

I was just on 13thdepository.com re-reading some of the old Q & A's of Robert Jordan's and came across this quote: Week 5 Question: Will Hurin the Sniffer return in any of the remaining books? Please? We miss him. Could you share some insight as to why you decided not to use him after The Great Hunt? Robert Jordan Answers: He'll turn up again. He hasn't reappeared earlier because the part he had to play was a sidelight to the main story. You should be able to glean some of what he was doing, what effect he and the news he brought was having, from the news that came out of the Borderlands in the books following The Dragon Reborn, though. In The Great Hun…

I recently saw reference to a second ripple effect in KoD--there's the one from Faile's POV in Something... Strange, but I can't for the life of me remember a second one. Anyone have a citation?

what has he done so far? his forsaken keep getting killed and captured. His soldiers are getting killed or surrounded. his orders are generally mindless. kill rand no dont kill him. make him join us no kill him again actually dont kill him. All he has are few worthless pawns. The only thing he has really done that warrants something is when he tainted saidin and caused the breaking. Pretty poor i think. The last battle will be quick and clean. the dark one has no chance.

I've just finished my re-read of the last three books and a thought occurred to me. You know how every so often a reference is made to something that the current population of Randland thinks is a remnant from a long ago age? Things that we easily recognise from our Real World or our history? I don't mean the major, wonderous things like flying transportation devices but mundain stuff. Such as Elayne referring to the word 'Princess' being an old fashion frase or Ter'Angreal or Angreal doing things that we can recognise like 'talking to people at great distances without needing the ability to channel' and stuff like that. What if.... the Last Battle somehow starts a …

I was wondering how powerful a full circle of the maximum number of men and women all using the most powerful sa'angreal, including the Choedan Kal, would be. I do not even know if a circle can use sa’angreal. This may seem a strange question but did Lanfear tell Rand that with the Choedan Kal they could challenge the Dark One. I am sure that Rand mentions that he feels he could destroy the world (break creation?) with the male Choedan Kal. So if Lanfear thinks she and Rand can do all this what could this full circle do?

I've been thinking back on one of RJ's blogs where he discussed his service in Vietnam and how he used to be called Iceman by his squadron. He mentions (and I'm paraphrasing here) how he hated the name, and that that persona was one that had no place in civlization or a world of peace and that it was necessary for him to kill that person beyond resurrection in order for him to survive in the "peace" world. As most people who have studied combat trauma or the pysche of soldiers in wartime know, many soldiers are forced to become someone entirely new or find within themselves an aspect of their personality that they never had any reason to imagine existed within themselv…

Aram was a mainstay of the series. He first appeared when Egwene and Perrin were guided to the tinkers by Elyas. At that time he was carefree and interested only in women, song and dance. When the trollocs came to the two rivers and decimated his people he put aside the way of the leaf and took up the sword. He started following Perrin around without any explanation why, and seemed fanatically loyal to him ever since. Then, in KoD with very little foreshadowing he suddenly starts following Masema, and decides that Perrin is Shadowspawn and needs to die. When he turns they don't even have a real fight, Aram is cut down by Aiel from behind. I have to admi…

I'm nearly done with Knife of Dreams, but I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a pen than suffer through one more chapter with Elayne in it. Even though she is surrounded by people who can delve her they all treat her like porcelain, and every other paragraph is about her pregnancy. Correct me if I'm wrong but based on the timeline she's in her first trimester. Why all the fuss? Anyway, my point is that I can't handle reading these chapters. Would someone who has read them recently either mind summing up for me what happens for her by the end of the book or point me in the direction of an online resource that can? Thanks! You guys rock!

I'm reminded of Lord of Chaos, When Rand visits the school. I held on to that. How far could the Technology tree in the world go before it would ruin the story. I can see maybe the age of gunpowder(front loading muskets and cannons). But once you get to like WWI, WWII era technology. The series wouldn't be able to sustain itself.

It's been stated by a few number of Aes Sedai that they think they have been culling the ability to channel out of the population by gentling all the men with the spark. However, people born with the spark are rare. Even with women, only a handful have the spark inborn. Most are only able to learn. So since people with the spark are a vast minority of the channelers, I don’t think the power has been culled at all. Men with the ability to learn are still reproducing and passing the trait on. With the taint clean, I think the amount of male channelers will skyrocket since people with the ability to learn won't be afraid anymore. Anyone agree? ~Mashiara

I have a question, there used to be an enormous white map of the Westlands online with the location of armies and major characters noted on it. The armies were represented by different colored horsemen. It was saved on my hard drive but it died and I can't find it online anymore. Does anyone know where this map can be found or has the map and can host it on photobucket or imageshack?

So in TDR the wondergirls find out that the Black Ajah had planned to get Taim freed after he had been captured. Taim's escape happens but it never seems like the wondergirls or anyone else puts 2 and 2 together and figure that if the BA really did help him escape that they might not have turned him. I just did a re-read of the series but didn't pick up on anyone pointing this out.

I was just thinking about this. Remember min's viewing of Berelain that she will fall "head over heels" for a white clad warrior. More thank likely that this is Galad, since he is now a white cloak and he has been known to be a heart throb, and he is royalty kind of. Basically everything Berelain desires.

I'm talking about Winternight in Emonds Field. It is stated that people will be visiting back and forth with their neighbors, and that is what spoils the attack by the trollocs. When Finally Rand arrives pulling Tam on the litter he notices many people in their nightshirts which does not make sense if they were all out visiting or receiving guests. I know it is a little thing that one likely only notices after the first read.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but i didn't find it on the FAQ or in a search. . . . In Min's vision, she sees (paraphrased) 3 women standing over a funeral beir, or something like that. She know's it's Rand, but there's enough questions to think he'll survive TG. My question is, what is Bad Guy A kills rand, releases his blood on the rocks, etc. etc. enough time passes by they bury/whatever rand. Then Good Guy B tracks down Bad Guy A, and balefires him with Callandor, or another super angreal. Bad Guy A's actions are undone; everyone remmbers Rand being dead & buried, but he lives. It also dovetails with RJ's use of religious symbols, a…

For a long time, from about book 2 to about book 8, we think Nynaeve is the strongest female channeler. Supposedly, Rand chose her because (1)for her strength (2)because he trusts her as much as he does anyone. But by book nine, no less than three people have passed her up: Alivia, Sharina, and Talaan. Rand may not know Sharina or Talaan, but Alivia seems to be the new strongest, and Rand seems to trust her by the time of the cleansing, so why not use her?

I lent my EotW to my sister so she could start reading the series about a month or so ago. She has just made it to where they are running out of Shadar Logoth. She says she's really into the story, but it seems like she's taking FOREVER to read it. I read it in under a week my first time (and probably every time since). How long does it take you all to finish the average WoT book?
