So I'm doing my reread and I just finished TGH and I found some odd dialogue in chapter 26: Is Thom just expressing surprise at Rand's ta'veren twisting having pulled another person in with him or does the name "Hurin" actually mean something to him? FYI, Earlier in the chapter, Hurin doesn't seem to have any reaction to Rand saying Thom is alive, he just says, when asked, that he would be pleased to guard the horn while Rand and Loail go meet Thom.

The male a'dam are now with Rand, Cadsuane, Nynaeve etc., so who will they be used on? RJ wouldn't have introduced them into the plot unless they had some important role. Would Rand allow himself to be controlled by Nynaeve, Cadsuane, Elayne, Aviendha or Moiraine? Also, I'd like to clarify, in KoD, were the copies found copies of the collar, the bracelets or both? My interpretation is that there are now more "sets" of the a'dam so a bunch of male channelers could be collared; Taim anyone?

When Lews Therin sealed the bore the Dark One's counterstroke tainted the male half of the source, and led to the breaking of the world. How do you think things would have been different if Saidar had been tainted instead? What if the women went mad and broke the world leaving male Aes Sedai behind? Would the shadow have triumphed by now? Would their still be Ajahs, and if so would there be a red that hunted down women? Would the three oaths have been created? Would the battle with Artur Hawkwing have gone the same? I'm a little bored at work and was curious as to what people think!

I have started roughly tracing the maps into an svg (in inkscape) to emulate Google Maps (atm its just the raw svg, but it should be possible to upload to or make a viewer that works like gMaps). Anyone interested? I have currently traced: - In place on the map and 'to scale': * Caemlyn and Far Madding. * The main continents. * The 5 major rivers. * The state borders. - Not in place: * The walls of Cairhien * The island of Tar Valon (would have this on the map, but the two maps don't align at all). If you want to take a look, I have all my resources bundled in a GIT repository here: <http://github.com/FallingBullets/WoT-Maps>.…

Hi all, new to Dragonmount, but coming over from others like the old Wotism and recently Wotmania, glad to be here!!! Anyway, I was going back over some of the prophecies, and doing a non-structured re-read (basically just reading the parts I wanted to ;D) when I came across a few things that I didn't pick up on before, and didn't really see any discussion about on here. LOC 15 A Pile of Sand, Egwene's dreams concerning Mat... "In another a woman, face shrouded in shadow, beckoned him toward great danger; Egwene did not know what, only that it was monstrous." I couldn't even really find much about this in the FAQ, which was odd. Surely there must be …

I am not sure if this topic has been covered on here, and if it has I appologize. We meet Setalle Anan in the Crown of Swords and understand that she is formerly Martine Janata of the Brown Ajah. We also learn that she burnt herself out or was severed. First question... Is she burnt out or severed? If stilled then she can be Healed and restored to being Aes Sedai. Second question... If she is burnt out can she be Healed? Third question... I understand that if someone is burnt out they can't even feel Saidar. Yet, in the Winter's Heart she claims she can be a sul'dam, which to me means she can feel Saidar. Fourth question... If she can feel Saida…

While the whole issue of the permanence of Cuendillar has not been answered to the best of my knowledge, some interesting concepts came up as I reread the books a few months ago. When ........ talks to the Seafolk on their ship one of the windfinders notes how impractical gateways are since there is no good way to use them to load/unload a ship. (Yeah, I have no idea which book) This lead me to wonder if there was a good way to keep a gateway open forever and thus have direct trade routs between larger cities. Consider the following object: a hollow tube of Cuendillar with a diameter of about 10 meters with each end having a cap plane like a spool of thread. …

It seems like every time a do a re read, I add a new scene to my list of favorites. Some are only a few sentences some are chapter length. I'm just starting TDR for the upteenth time and it's always been one of my favorites. The scene after the Trolloc attack, where one of the wolf packs is running down a Fade, attacking it, dying, attacking it as they die, there is only a single survivor from the pack. That is one of the best scenes from the series.

First i would like to just check that the only way to get to the world of Aelfinn/Eelfinn is to go through the tower of Ghenjei (of which there is no return) or to go through the Red ter'angreal doorways. (Please state any other way to get there) A question that sprang to mind was "How where to Aelfinn/Eelfinn discovered by humans?" The 'Red ter'angreal doorways' had to of been created by a aes sedai because it is a ter'angreal, so they were built after the dicovery of Aelfinn/Eelfinn that leaves the tower of Ghenjei, but you can not return from this ??? SO either > There is a way to get out Aelfinn/Eelfinn (such as a gateway) > Or there is…

I know we've discussed this on the old boards, but I can't remember the differing theories regarding where Demandred is. I know many still believe he is Taim (I don't know why...) But for those who do not, here is an opportunity to regail us with your thoughts on how and in what capacity Demandred will reveal himself to the world prior to the Last Battle. I personally believe he is in Shara. I think he has been massing together an army of chanellers. Now he could have been making his across the deserted Aiel Waste on foot, in preparation to walk his army over the Dragonwall, but I think it is more likely that he will travel the distance and have a fresh army ready …

This topic has been adressed under many different threads, in defense of or in opposition to any number of other theories. I wanted to start a thread that focused solely on the topic of how much time will be covered in AMoL, and what clues we can use to help us determine the scope of AMoL. Since I started this thread, I'll start with my thoughts on this matter. It will basically cover three different ways of looking at the plotlines of AMoL, what has already happened, what we know MUST happen, and what we think might happen. First, what has already happened. The single strongest clue that I can think of to tell us the minimum amount of time that AMoL will cover i…

I'm sorry, again i know many of you have read this, but I was trying to describe my beliefs on th progression in another thread and i couldn't find the original posting of this. So yeah, ignore it if you've already read it, sorry! So, some time ago on a particularily boring day, i had a flash of nerdyness and wrote out a summary of how i thought the plot of A Memory of Light would go. Since then i've changed my position on certain things (mostly because of you Robert! You knowledgeable bastard! ) Anyway once again i find myself bored, so im going to go to the bad nerdy place again, and re-write my list. Preceding this i want to say that im working on the u…

I've read the section in the WoT FAQ that suggests that gholam cannot be killed by the OP, due to their ability to unravel any flows directed at them. But this got me thinking - seeing as balefire destroys things in the instant before it touches the victim, doesn't that make the gholam as vulnerable to it as anyone else is?

i have just been rereading the 11th book for like the hundreth time and i think that messana is tsutama the highest of the red (may have been posted before). does anyone know if this is probable because she seems to treat others as mere mortals and seems to have a vast amount of knowledge of the outside world. She also has been in "exile" and has (not postive when?) reeappeared. and as always i still say silver will kill a gholam. ;)

They've drawn quite a few parallels between him and Jaim Farstrider, especially the comments he has about Jaim deserting his wife. Have we gotten confirmation that's who it is or am I missing something? Thanks for the help!

So, if you've been keeping up with Brandon Sanderson's blog as I have, you know that the titles of books 13 and 14 will be The Towers of Midnight and A Memory of Light I'm interested in everyone's opinion: good, bad? Indifferent? What do you think they portend? A Memory of Light, for me, has always had a bad portention to it. It sounds to me like things end badly for everyone. Anyway. What do you all think? Personally, I LOVE Towers of Midnight. -Rifty

In The Path of Daggers, Elayne and the others are running away from the Sanchean and she messes up trying to unweave the gateway which explodes into a thousand pieces killing everyone. And then she and the Sanchean call this a "Weapon"? How is it a weapon if you are sure as dead on either side of that thing? If it wasnt for Brigette, they would all be dead.

From WH-Prologue "Mending the damage Rahvin had done in Andor might take her entire lifetime even if she managed to live as long as the Kinswomen! Some Houses would stand aside from supporting her because of the outrages Gaebril had perpetrated in Morgase’s name, and others because Rand had said he intended to “give” her the throne. She loved the man to her toes, but burn him for giving voice to that!" Even though Elayne does love Rand, she does blame Rand to some extent for the situation in Andor. While she conveniently forgots that had rand not done what he did in andor ,it would have been very difficult for her remove Rahvin after he established himself in…

Something I've been thinking about for a while is Min's viewings and how they connect with something else since nearly everything in the WoT series seems to be connected one way or another. So, after re-reading the part about Mat's trip to Finnland, I noticed that when he talks to them they seem to be looking just above his head. This seems a place that Min generally has her viewings. Now, since Min doesnt always get viewings of people there were two options that I had that seemed acceptable to why the Aelfinn can always answer the questions. 1. By what Moiraine said, you cannot ask meaningless questions. So if when you ask a question of some importance about yoursel…

I've always loved how James worked a mix of the world's past cultures into the vivid and unique WoT world I thought it would be interesting to list out the things we've picked up in the story that came from real world. List em up ..... 1. The Wheel of Time concept itself is a Mayan belief. 2. Aiel use Zulu weapons and battle tatics, but have a native american flare to their dress and food, while following Japanese traditions of "duty and honor" above all else. 3. Matt's spear/sword is a medieval Japanese weapon 4. Two Rivers long bow is from medieval England 5. Seanchan where Japanese style armor and chinese style ships 6. …

I'm nearly finished with my latest read of the Wheel of Time, and I'm left with a nagging question which has been bothering me since early in the series. In the very first book Rand meets Elayne for all of about an hour. The scene ends with her telling him that she thinks he is handsome. They are clearly attracted to each other, which makes sense. In book three they meet for the second time. This time they make out in corners for a few weeks, but don't spend more than a dozen hours together during that time. Then Rand heads to the Aiel waste and Elayne goes on to Tanchico. She leaves him with two letters. One says she cares for him (not loves), and the oth…

I apologize if this has been a subject that has been talked about a lot, but I am new to the forums. I was wondering what you thought Moraine would be like when she is rescued. Will she have the same desire to make sure Rand succeeds? Enougth to seek him out over becoming part o the siege? If so, what will she think of Cadsuane filling the vacant spot that she left? Will she be the same strenght as before or not?

I had only read the series once before this. I remember not liking The Dragon Reborn the first time through as much as the two before it. I think that was mostly because I was annoyed that there was very little Rand in it, and I was expecting him to do, well, Dragon Reborny stuff all throughout. This time through I'm enjoying it a lot more. A few things. First I just read a part where Rand kills 11 random people for no apparent reason. They just show up and he kills them all, no real explanation. I think one is hinted at being a Gray Man, but he only notices him after he's killed everyone. After that he makes their dead bodies kneel to him. Really. That's some c…

Just was wondering if someone could remind me on which of the female channelers present at the cleansing died? I remember (hopefully correctly) that it was one of the females forming a circle with Verin, but couldn't recall if it was one of the Sea Folk or the Aes Sedai (can't recall either's name right now). Thanks
