I'm re-reading aCoS at the moment and couldn't stop asking myself the question of why Taim has blue and gold Dragons embroidered on the sleeves of his coat. I couldn't find any answers! Is it to annoy Rand - to show he thinks himself an equal? To show the Asha'man that he's allied with Rand - so they don't forgot who they're ultimately 'working' for? After Dumai Wells, Perrin notices that when Taim comes back up from couting the dead maidens with Rand, he looks at Gedwyn who shakes his head ever so slightly. Is this because they have an eye out for Rands little fat man Angreal? Or something else? If yes, was it to be destined for him? Or for a Forsa…

not sure if this is the right place to post this or if I'm running behind the masses again but... amusing thought, this reminded me that one day all of us might actually end up in this situation: http://www.brandonsanderson.com/blog/818/To-Longtime-Wheel-of-Time-Fans

What do you all think of Rand's claustrophobia? (Which he develops after being locked into the chest by the Tower Aes Sedies.) I mean how will it all play out in the last books? Jordan must have introduced this for a reason, and not just to screw up Rand's first meeting with the Sea Folk. ;) My guess is that it will play out when Rand enters the Pit of Doom and the narrow tunnels leading to it. It would make for a really cool scene, with Rand fighting the dark one and his phobia while Shaitan warps reality and makes the tunnels close in, simular to what he did to Mogheidin. The problem is how would Rand counter it? He can't change reality so that's out of the q…

I had a thought about the Shaido. With Couladin dead (and Suladric), Sevanna spoke as Clan Chief until we learn in KoD that the Wise Ones have sent someone else (I can't remember what his name is) to Rhuidean. At the end of KoD, the Shaido Wise Ones say they will return to the Waste and never come out... but... If they send someone through the glass columns ter'angreal and he comes out a Clan Chief, he will see that Rand is the real Car'a'carn. If he commands them, as Chief, to go to Rand, will the Wise Ones agree? Can Rand really unite the Aiel? Just a thought. ~Mashiara

Something that's been bugging me. The Salidar Aes Sedai say that Elaida is a false Amyrlin, because her raising was barely legal and contrary to all custom. And yet, their own Amyrlin is also barely legal, and could only have been raised because of a loophole in the law. So, how is it that Salidar has the moral right to oppose Elaida on legal terms, when their own Amyrlin was raised much the same way?

Hi people! I have read the works of a handful of fantasy authors and some aspects of their work are always the same. I am talking about how the Good Ones go about defeating the Bad Ones. In Robert Jordan's truly epic saga we have all gotten to know the Bad One and "his" henchpersons. We have met beasty Trollocs and Creepy Fades, sneaky Darkfriends and totally deranged Forsaken. The Dark One is often mentioned and we have gotten some feeling of what "he" must be like but one thing that I wonder about right now is: How do The Good Ones go about lessening "His" power? In many other Fantasy stories the Bad Guy/Gal is defeated quite easily (in the end) as the Go…

Seriously. She was obviously much stronger than the Seanchan damane she brought with her to capture Rand. She must have known Rand was even stronger than her. She must have known he must have had at least a few Asha'man expotentially stronger than your average Seanchan damane. She must have known he had a woman with strength on par with the Forsaken, and maybe a few others there as well. She must have known Rand had Callandor, the Choedan Kal and who-knew-what besides. So she went to ambush him like that, her only hope relying on the fact that she could disguise her holding the Power. In my view, even if Cadsuane and Nynaeve didn't have their ter'angreal, as long as …

I mean seriously, the stuff they put up with to become Aes sedai. It’s hard to imagine girls/young women willingly going along. Maybe back in the day, teens were more obedient or whatever, but today! I’m 18, just able to enrol, would I stick that crap out, no way. I don’t know any girls my age that would. Honestly, most of the added crap is really unnecessary in my opinion. • Slaving away Scrubbing floors and other make-work for no reason other than to please Aes sedai. That would really p*ss me off. • Your room/prison doesn’t even have a flipping window. Or a lock, I don’t think. • Crappy food. Honey for special occasions. Oh happy birthday, you can have a lit…

So, Hannah posted this the first time, and I quite liked it, therefore I'm going to repost it: What would you do if you had the one power? Myself, I would take over the world. I've been wanting to do that bit for a while now.

Okay. Let me start by explaining the train of thought that lead to this question. I'm currently re-reading Fires of Heaven, and I just read past the part where Siuan is inside a tavern to seek out one of the blue Ajah's informants she knew from back when she ran the blue Ajah's network. The owner of this tavern put Siuan up for some public humiliation where she had to show her legs in the common room for inspection to see if she had the "ankles" to go with her singing. Now this started a train of thought in my mind. Seeing as it suddenly hit me that shaving legs and armpits and what else there is to shave, is a very modern trend in the real life western society…

This thread is to talk about our favorites and our would-be favorites of this series. The poll has both current books and future books; and books that might not be made. The "Book 12" option, that represents each of the 3 remaining books.

I don't know if this belongs here or in the other forum, but more people seem to post here so I chose this one. Sue me. Ok, I used to be a huge fan of this series. I even joined that role playing story-thing online. However, I've only read each book once, and it's been a long time since I've really thought about them. My interest has been re-peaked by the proximity of the new book. My problem is: I hardly remember anything. I recall some scenes in vivid detail, and I have a feel for the overall plot, but I was browsing these forums and people reference things that I can't seem to remember happening. I'm just afraid I'll be totally lost when I try to read the ne…

I'm doing a reread in anticipation of #12 and came across something I hadn't noticed before, or if I did, it didn't strike me as odd until now. Fal Dara keep has just been attacked by Trollocs and Mat has just been given a dose of Healing by 4 Aes Sedai with Moiraine's angreal, but the link to the evil of SL cannot be broken without the dagger. As Leane directs the litter bearers carrying a deeply sleeping Mat Cauthon, Moiraine muses to herself. *How will this affect matters?* Moiraine wondered. *He is not necessary with the Horn gone, and yet ...* Why is Mat no longer necessary without the Horn? He hasn't blown it yet and won't have until the e…

There may be a detail that is being overlooked here - Everybody seems to be viewing this as a conflict between Good and Evil. I believe that the closest analog to what the books depict, and the one that was Jordan's stated objective is a conflict between Order and Chaos. Ragnarokk rather than Armageddon. The Forsaken want to "Let the Lord of Chaos Rule." Rand wants to create an orderly and progressive society. In an Order/Chaos scenario, questions about benevolence, or the lack thereof, have no real place. So, the question of whether the Creator is, or is even behaving, in a benevolent manner has no meaning. The salient question is: Is the Creator beha…

All this talk about one of the "main characters" being absent from TGS has got me thinking about exactly who are the main characters. This would be the main character hierarchy as I see it: Rand Mat, Perrin, Egwene Nyneave Elayne, Thom, Moiraine, Min, Avihenda, Lan, Loial Faile, Berelain, Verin, Suain, Cadsuane Leanne, Logain, Galad, Gawyn, Tuon, Alanna, Morgase, Juilin I'm sure I've left a few out but this covers most…

Now, RJ can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes, and im hoping that his family and widow are continuing to hang in there, though obviously they still miss him - heck, we still miss him and we're just his readers, not his family! But, the one thing he did that always upset me (but i know he didn't do it on purpose) was when he would talk about Mat and Tuon in future books set ten years after The Last Battle. Ummm, isn't that sort of like just saying "Don't worry, you don't need any suspense about this one - Mat and Tuon make it just fine, they don't die and theres still a world left for them to inhabit ten years later...?" Again, i love rj, its just this part…

I have been thinking, what if the DO really is just a mindless source of energy? Maybe it just seems sapient because it has somehow been imprinted with the personality of the first person who tapped into it, the nihilistic ishy. Maybe there is no eternal struggle between good and evil, ishy just expected to find something like the DO in the bore, so the power provided a being that suited his expectations. Does this theory make sense?

Hi there! I just recently heard, and bought!, a CD called Songs of the Unforgiven by the somewhat strange band Crash Test Dummies. One of the tracks in this album is titled "The Unforgiven Ones" and I just felt that it was totally perfect for the Wheel of Time! I haven't analyzed the lyrics too much but it fits! Listen to it if you want on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TnOOkQ5YSg What do you guys think?

The battle between evil and good has taken place many times. Important persons may return but with new roles. So who from Rand's time would be who during the time of Jesus? Jesus - Rand. The savior who will die in order to save the world. Who then will be resurrected. The wound in the side is similar, as is the crown of swords to the crown of thorns, as is markings on his hands/arms to Jesus' wounds from the spikes. Car'a'carn/Coramoor is similar to Messiah. Jesus was born to virgin, Rand to maiden. The devil is tempting Jesus and seems to consider converting him to be more important than killing him, as is the dark one with Rand. Judas - Mat. Both among the clo…

??? just read chapter 6 'Threads woven of shadow' in the 'lord of chaos' (6th) book and am really confuesd. It says "Semirhage let the iron bound door close behind her. One of the GLOWBULBS, salvaged from the Great lord alone new where flickering fitfully..." Is this a lightbulb that we know of today? How could the dark one salvage one?
