  1. OK! I'm planning to do one of these for each of the books, just to see what you other fans especially like about each book, and what you don't like. Not many rules in the thread, just try to keep it to one passage, situation or even one liner, that you like best, when you think back on the book. Sounds fun? I'll start us off! Favourite moment: When Rand tumbles into the gardens in Caemlyn and is presented to the Queen, and they find out he's wearing a heron marked blade. I've always loved that passage! Least favourite moment: At the Eye, when Moiraine attacks Aginor and she's able to "hold him" or whatever. We all know the ease, Rand dealt with A…

When the Dark one tainted saidin, was it something the male Aes sedai did to make it possible? Or, did the Dark one always have the oppurtunity, and did it as a sick sort of joke? If he could always do it, why not taint saidar as well? Which got me thinking. I think a wicked way to end the series would to be to seal away the Dark one and have him taint saidar. Oh, the possibilities. There could be a follow up series a thousand years later. All the aes sedai went crazy and caused the second breaking. The black tower replaced the white one. The Sul'dam could be a huge police force..... man I need to write this down.....

I was reading through some of the other posts and one mentioned Rand having to reach very far to find enough moisture to make it rain in the waste, and this got me thinking; what if it was Rand that actually caused the unnatural heat in later books? Rand pulling on the weather currents in such a dramatic fashion would cause at least a momentary disruption of weather patterns, and at most something far more enduring. I am no meteorologist, so I could be very off, but is it possible that relocating the moisture to the Waste disrupted the weather patterns enough to induce the heat elsewhere? The first mention I can think of without the books to look through that speaks …

i dont feel Rand has gone bonkers or is as close as people think either, the way i see Rand is in some sort of failed Possession ( him being Taveren , his strong-willed/ stubborn two rivers upbringing, luck? ??? ) and in a way it fits Min's vision of him and another man touching an than 1 dies an other lives ( Min's visions are somewhat abstract at times ) because we see it mentioned once in EotW by Thom and never again i get an odd feeling it is an important foreshadowing :-X after Min's tells him of her vision Rand get relieved because he sees it as a conformation of LTT being real an not a figment of his mind the fact he is so harsh / odd in how he reacts …

  5. What if when Rand meets Tuon for the first time, she tells him that Mat is her husband. Rand, out of shock, falls to the ground, kneeling, but not necessarily out of submission or surrender. Just the thought of what Rand will do when he finds out that news makes me laugh hysterically. ~Mashiara

Alright, so one of the events we're doing at DragonCon this year requires us to calculate the odds of certain things, some serious, some silly. It seems the easiest way for us to do this is by crowdsourcing, i.e., letting you guys decide. So if you wouldn't mind, take a few minutes and fill out this quick survey. It's only twenty questions and it'll help me out alot. Thanks! http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=8kxo40fx6ncy45a622562

  7. One of the aspects of the Wheel of Time series that I am most fascinated by is its exploration of the theme of peace and violence. Overall Jordan developed an vary violent world. The good side as well as the forsaken and darkfriends are killers. Rand has personally killed untold numbers of people and shadowspawn with Callandor, Mat, Egwene, and Avienda, and have all slain dozens of people. but at the same time Jordan has the Tinkers following the Way of the Leaf - peace no matter the cost. Because of my Mennonite background with its doctrine of non-resistance (the concept that all human life is sacred and its destruction never excusable)which possesses strong parallels to…

Like Arthur Hawking said to Hurin the Sniffer, the wheel rarely ties heroes to itself. But I wonder if and if yes who you think the the wheel will add from this storyline? Imo, Mat should definetly be among them if people are added. Maybe Lan aswell. Any ideas?

The Dark One (DO from now on) could very well be the "Creator" The biggest theme in the WoT series is that legend/myth are often misconceptions from true events. Robert Jordan says this in numerous interviews (I recall his interview at the end of any Audio book from Audible). What we know about the Wheel of Time 1) Time in this series is circular, the wheel of time sees that ages come to pass, then will come again later 2) The DO is bound outside the wheel, and is no longer able to touch it, because IF he is able to touch the world, then he can stop the Wheel of Time 3) Without the DO's influence, the Wheel of Time will ensure that certain events happen so…

A quick thought/"revelation" that I had a while ago. The Aes Sedai are bound the the oath rod and the oaths taken while holding it. That much I know. What occurred to me while reading one of the books a while ago was that there is a very serious flaw to the "to tell no lies" oath. Here we go: If an Aes Sedai is 100% sure of something (even if it is blatantly wrong/untrue) she will have no trouble telling it as it is true/the truth. That makes the whole oath useless. I think it was Asmodean who said something like this - that might be why I suddenly thought of it. ;) What are your thoughts on the three oaths?

  12. I have seen very little about logistics in this series, I have always been dubious of how the Aeil travel about without a swarm of wagons to bring the food. So when an Army fights Trollocs I wonder why the provisioner's don't butcher trollocks for the meat they provide. Considering that most Trollocs are partially derived from animal stock would it not be an excellent food source for an army in the field? I wonder which strain of Trolloc would be the tastiest, bovine derived or avian derived? Turn about is fair play after all. I can see the trollocs quake at news of a human army approaching that is hungry. :)

I mean elements of the periodical table like Iron or Helium Because if they could then this could be the answer to the aes sedai flying mystery. By creating helium they could float then using a srtong wind float about, follow? Just an idea ;D any comments ??? :-X :D

I think the Aiel would win over a an equal number of trollocs, but what I wonder about is whether or not Taim knows of how the Aiel tactics work in battle. If he does he could tell to other Forsaken/Moridin. I remember a guy once telling how the only way to defeat the Aiel was with using their own tactics against them. I think this was a Shienaran. If the Shadow knows of their tactics this would be a major setback for the Aiel because they wouldn't be as effective.

Currently doing my second re-read and something came to my attention.. I am pretty sure but not certain that it has been stated that no illness is beyond the Aes Sedai's healing (At least when performed by any Aes Sedai with the talent to heal). Yet in The fires of heaven. Egwene and Nyaneve finds out that Siuane is no longer the Amylin. Their first reaction is to comment to eachother "Maybe she died by some illness that the yellows couldn't heal or fell down the stairs and broke her neck." Now while this can easily be read as denial because they want to believe that instead of the alternative (stilling) It made me think about if I might be wrong in my per…

  17. That is my opinion. I didn't post this though because its my opinion; I posted it because after all the years of reading and following and enjoying this community, I have always and continuously been shocked by the lack of mention here about this scene being the greatest extended fight in the entire series. I don't believe its my opinion just because its the most recent either. Im rereading and have gone back to earlier books and I still feel this way - by far, though other battle scenes certainly are worthy contenders...such as: 1 Well, take your pick from FOH...it has a bad rap for bing boring, but from a military aspect it is fascinating. Mat's first battles with …

  19. We know that the use of balfire once threatened to shatter the world; It was simply affecting the pattern in such ways that made it almost collapse. Would`nt killing the DO have a similar effect but greatly magnified? I cannot think of any single event having a larger impact on the stability of the pattern than the total elimination of the very embodiement of evil... Therefore I can only imagine a single outcome of Tarmon Gaidon. That is, the dark one must once again be captured and sealed behind (hopefully) unbreakable barriers. So my guess is quite simply that the dark one will expose his weak side and thereby try to assure his own destruction. His intent…

  20. FINALLY! I don't know how many of you subscribed, oh... ages ago?, to the New Spring graphic novel that was being published by Red Eagle entertainment and Dabel Brothers. Well... Red Eagle dropped the ball big time and the 8 issue series was kaboshed after 5 issues... DABEL BROTHERS TO THE RESCUE!! They are finishing the series!! I just received issue 6 yesterday. Excellent. Dabel Brothers you are terrific.

  22. And I had to do some serious restructuring to get that topic grammatically correct. Anyway, Point the first. At the end of (either PoD or) WH, Tuon asks Mat for a favor, and Mat replies that he'll have to think about it. The narrative then goes on to say that he thought about it all that day, and into the next night, but he knew that he would have to say yes. He didn't have a choice. He returns to Tuon, tells her yes, and the dice stop in his head. There, the Mat scenes in that particular book end, and in the following book, no mention is made of it, and I couldn't tell what, exactly, it was that Tuon had requested. Please enlighten me? Point the Second. …

If this subject has been discussed, I apologize and would appreciate a reference or link. I'm working through a re-read, and I know its not too crital to the story but I'm wondering how Rand gets to or ends up in TAR during his trip to the Stone in TDR. I've seen a few threads that argue he's not a dreamer. We can fairly assume that at this point in his development, he's not able to create gateways and enter TAR in the flesh. I believe Chapt 27, "Tel'aran'rhiod" is our first real view of Rand in TAR. This is when Egwene, trying out her new ring, runs in to Rand who's sitting by a camp fire. He thinks she's another temptation, sent to kill him from the "Father o…

Hello folks! I have been listening to a lot of the Pod Cast episodes lately (I just recently found them!) and was intrigued! Some people seem to want to put a gender on The Dark One and the Creator. If I remember correctly both powers are identified as gender neutral. The Dark One is NOT a woman nor is it a man. It simply is. Perhaps it will take one form or the other?! When facing Rand (if it will face Rand directly that is) it might take on the form of a woman since Rand is unable to kill women... I also remember Moiraine saying, when Rand or one of the other Two Rivers boys claims to have seen The Dark One's dead body, that the Dark One would not come in the …

While i reread "New Spring" i came upon a lie, atleast in my book (translated to norwegian) that may have been a mistake by the translator but still, I find that I should ask the question to the people that have read the book in English. And can check the exact line. Just after Gitara died, Tamra said to Siuan and Moirane; "If anyone askes what happend,"Gitara died without saying a word", or something close to that. She clearly lied there. So i gotta ask Luckers or whoever thats sees this, did she indeed say that in the english version? And what does this signify? Or is it just a mistake by the translator?

The true nature of Ishamael (any reference to Ba’alzamon is obviously Ishamael) This theory concerns the true nature of Ishamael. Ishamael, being only half-caught (prior book1), exists as a strong entity within the World of Dreams (like the heroes connected to Tel’aran’rhiod), and potentially is becoming the vessel of the Dark One like Shaidar Haran appears to be in the later books. This is also linked to Ishamael being unable to Channel. Firstly Mohgedian says: ‘The other sounds like Ishamael, to me. All his pride at being only half-caught, whatever the price - there was always was less human left in him than any of us when I saw him again; I think he h…

Reading through the books I noticed a few mistakes, plot holes, character behavior things etc. I know there are alot more that I missed though and was wondering if anyone else has been noticing them. Like in KoD when Perrin is talking about the Maldin's defenses he says "Galina wasn't sure about numbers" or something to that effect. But he doesn't know that Galina's real name is Galina, because she was introduced to him as Alyse. Never did anyone tell him that her name was really Galina. Also when Faile is being rescued by Perrin they talk about Galina and he says Alyse there so was a one time slip up lol.
