  1. Started by Dreadlady,

Here’s a question that has bothered me since the first time I read tDR: When Rand is camped out one night, a lady (a merchant (presumably) and her guards ride up. Rand “knows” (or assumes) they’re Darkfriends and kills them all. When he counts bodies, there is an extra – a “grey man”. Here’s my question.. How did Rand know they were Darkfriends? Apparently they were, since a gray man was with them, but from what I recollect, the lady rode up, said “Hello, may I share your camp?”. Rand says, “Sure, no problem”, then offs her. Did he notice something wrong that I overlooked, or was this an “I’m going crazy, kill everyone..” thing?

I found this from the Tor website. Apparently, one of either their editors or writers is blogging on a re-read of TEOTW. She is posting summaries of each chapters and her thoughts about each one. (Warning: If you haven't read the entire series, I suggest you don't read her summaries/comments as she is writing them with the assumption that whoever reads them has in fact read the entire series so there will be spoilers.) Check it out here: http://www.tor.com/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&user=21127 All I have to say is that her commentary is insightful at times and really funny at others. I had to refrain from laughing out loud at the office when I re…

How exactly do we pronounce Aes Sedai? I feel like a newbie asking this, but my sister and I never quite agree. I know in the glossary in the back of the books it says to pronounce it Eye sehd-eye, and my sister says Eye sehd-ay (as in hay). Also, is there any special emphasis in Aes Sedai? Whenever I say it, I seem to have an emphasis on the "-ai" part. I don't know why I do this. and on an off topic note, today I just finished The Dragon Reborn for my first time! Now on to The Shadow Rising!

we know that at the start of AOL or end of the age before someone discovers the OP. i wonder how and why we can't use it now assuming that it is our world afterall. we also know that the spark is to some extent genetic. my theory is that at present, humans only use a small fraction of our brain-capacity. but through evolution some people will develop the brain and form a new species, Homo Sapiens Powerus who will with the extra brainpower develop a complicated form of telekinesis, later identified as the OP. those that seem logical?

I have a few thoughts on Ter`angreal. 1. Can you see the weaves being made a ter`angreal? Do they even make 'weaves' in the same sense as a channeler? For example could some learn the balefire weave from the black rod? This I doubt, as I can't think of it being mentioned before. 2. A ter`angreal gender specific or caqn either male or female use them. (The ones that require channeling that is) My thoughts on this are that some are, some are not. (Im not considering the linking keys as specific because we have no evidence a male can't link to the female Choden Kal with one, just they can't use the sa'angreal. Thoughts?

So I am on my second re-read before AMoL releases, and I had a few thoughts concerning the Forsaken. I just started Lord of Chaos, and I noticed how it talks about Osan'gar and Asan'gar being born again. It's from Osan'gar's point of view, and he mentions something along the lines of helping create the Trollocs. He was also surprised by Shadar Haran, because he had helped create fades as well. This would make sense if these two were reborn together, and they were actually the two Forsaken who were killed at Eye of the World. In the prologue, Shai'tain also mentions that even he cannot heal balefire and step out of time (Rahvin). This leads me more to believe tha…

  8. So I came to a realization while I was at work. The viewing of Moiraine that never came true was that she would marry Thom. That is why Moiraine was able to tell the girls that she knew the face of the man she would marry better than any of them, because Min already told her who she will marry.

From Brandon Sanderson's Blog: "First off, if you want to vote for the nationality of the group, it's happening right now on Tarvalon.net. I won't say anything about who is winning here, though I'll link when the announcement is made. Why? Well, some people don't want to know. There are a LOT of hidden secrets in the Wheel of Time books like this. Everything from cameo appearances by Robert Jordan himself......" Anybody got any idea in which book and scene Robert Jordan made a cameo appearance?

  10. This is a question thats been bugging me for some time. Are the Aelfinn/Eelfinn part of the pattern or not? If they are part of the pattern, there are certain limits to what can happen in there and to what they can do. If they are NOT part of the pattern, the pattern is diminished immensely imo, shrinking it from infinite to finite. At least Ive always thought of the pattern as something covering all the world forever. Im a little worried that this side feature, which the Aelfinn/Eelfinn are, is used as a means to let things happen that wouldnt be possible in the "normal" world. Continuity and logic in stories are important to me and thus Id like to get a b…

  13. I have often wondered whether we will ever get to have a book with all the prophesies published for us. The prophosies of the Sea Folk, the Aiel, Seanchan, and the prophsies of the dragon. I think it would make a very interesting read for sure and would be a perfect book to sum up the series, IMO. I am sure Jordan had all of them wrote out somewhere in his notes on the series, and I hope with all hope we can someday get them ourselves. It would be a nice touch to add to my collection of the series. I wonder what everyone else thinks of this?

Okay guys I've been thinking about this for a long time, and have looked through the boards to find something to prove this wrong. I can't find anything maybe I'm just being dense but Maybe not. Here's what I've been thinking Since time in Randland is Circular could it be that the Dark one win's in one of the ages and takes over until the seventh age? Then during the end of the seventh age the creator Appears destroys the wheel himself and then puts it back together and starts it spinning again back at the first age? Like I said this is just something I thought might happen not sure if this has been brought up or if it's not possible but I would love to hear you…

  16. I'm half-way through Shadow Rising, but I was looking at some fan art on the internet and it spoiled me bad. My hope is that these events come to pass soon in the books so that I don't know events in the much later books. Maybe you guys can help me. Here's what I've spoiled for myself. SPOILERS: Do not read if you havent read every book, cause I dont know where they're from. [glow=red,2,300]First off, I spoiled for myself that Egwene becomes Amyrlin Seat. Second, I spoiled that Aviendah and Rand get together. Third, I think I found out that Moraine is or becomes black Ajah.[/glow] So my hope is that these events come to pass in the next book or two s…

  17. Started by TheGreyishGrayONE,

On my latest re-read, I started thinking about the LB and all that fun stuff and through divine intervention, (or lack of sleep, you decide) I came up with the idea of the LB being kinda sorta anticlimactic-ish. I mean wouldn't it be just like RJ to build up this entire story to make us believe there will be some sort of huge battle with hundreds of thousands of people, and Rand fighting the DO, only none of that really happens? Talk about shocker. Like if/when Rand breaks the seals absolutely nothing happens? Or that the battle is only what is going on inside Rand's head and the seals were the only thing fully holding back his sickness/madness? Maybe it's just me but I t…

Why do arafellin people use bells when they are a warrior nation? Bells would be highly unpractical in a fight/war and warfare in general because they make noise for your enemies to hear. thanks in advance for any useful responses. :)

Ok, so after finishing with Winter's Heart, I was all excited to see Rand not have to worry about touching the Source, only to see all that other stuff happen. I don't know how many times or if people have really discussed this indepth. Is he still suffering ill effects because of the residual taint in his body? Or is it the balefire incident with Morridin at Shadar Logoth? I wonder if Morridin avoids using saidin partially because he may feel those effects himself. Someone please enlighten me on this...

I think this has been asked before, but im not sure. How did Lan kill the darkhound in tDR? Rand cuts them to ribbons with a sword, but they liquified and then reformed (a lot like in terminator II). Not until Moiraine or Rand balefired them did they die. I imagine they can be killed without balefire, but how would you kill one without the Power?

I'll give anyone who can find me a specific part in one of the books a cookie. The part in question is when Perrin wanders into a blacksmith's forge, takes up a hammer, and begins working with the blacksmith there. My memory is vague beyond that. Find, and a cookie will be yours.

I was reading on Brandon's site about Book 12 progress. He said that he measures his timeline on word count and that he set the word count for Memory at 400,000 words, which equals the longest WOT book. He says that he thinks Memory will be about 700-750K words and that it could possibly be split into two volumes. Man i hope this doesnt happen. I have no problem lugging around a 2000+ page Book 12 if thats what it takes.

This is so awesome that I'm going to make this post almost entirely in italic! We know that Mat will lose half the Light of the world, but what does that men? Does it mean he'll lose an eye, or do something else? I don't think so. I think he will betray Rand and Perrin, along with everyone else to save Seanchan from the Dark One. He'll live the rest of his life in Seanchan with Tuon as his wife. I'm not completely sure if he would do something like that, but if something very unexpected happened, and he would be forced to abandon Rand and co to save Seanchan or do something else. What do you guys and girls think?

  27. So I'm in the middle of a reread- up to WH at this point- and i'm very focused on Matt's storyline since he and the whole Tuon thing are starting to get good. Anyway, one thing that i've always taken for granted is my interpretation of what the finn's told Matt regarding his future. I have always assumed that the "giving up half the light of the world to save the world" referred to something that was very obvious to me, yet i've never seen any postings about it and i've been on these boards for awhile. Since my first read of the series, I always assumed it meant that he was going to have to leave "randland" and spend the rest of his life in Seanchan....reason?…

Who live die, who will live and why??? I believe Min is probably a gonna because of her proximity to Rand and her inability to channel or defend herself, sure she has her knives but her main defense is Rand. When Rand comes back into the spotlight (if he does) she will be seen as an easy target by Rands enemies and a way to strike a powerful blow. Plus it would be great to see how Rand reacts. Cadsuane will die but probably from old age or perhaps saving Rand. the three Ta'veren are safe with a question mark over Rand/LTT. Taim is as good as dead killed by Logain for being a DF. Lan and Nynaeve: one will die and the other will go out in a blaze …

  29. Started by Angel of Death,

I am currently giving the Audio Books a go and am on tDR. When Rand first runs away from the camp Moiraine is worried he has rediscovered a lost techneique like flying or becoming invisible. Now we know that Aes Sedai could never actually fly with the one power (they simply used the power to opperate sho-wings), but what about becoming invisible. I can't recall the techneique being mentioned again. Is it actually possible (by maybe using air to bend light around you) or is it another weave that has been warped by memory? (or was Moiraine just thinking of unheard of weaves that might have been known)?

As an excuse to re-read the books, (who am i kidding, noone needs an excuse) i decided to try and put together a list of all the hints that RJ gives us regarding the possiblegeography in the age of legends. 1) the sand hills used to be the edge of a 'great ocean'. I take this to mean that the mountains of mist are a newly formed range, and the ocean was to the west of the sand hills. Does this mean that Arad Doman, Almoth Plain and Tarabon were once under the ocean? The BWB and it is mentioned in the books that "The Domani believe they are descendents of those who made the tree of life" Who made the Chora Trees? Well what better place to research than the …
