  1. In TSR, there was a line that caught my eye. Lanfear is talking to Rand and Callandor comes up. Well, here's the line. ""I cannot trust you fully, Lews Therin. Not yet." She came closer, and he considered simply seizing her. He was bigger and stronger by far---and blocked as he was, she could wrap him up with the Power like a kitten tangled in a ball of string. "Not with that, certainly," she added, grimacing at Callandor. "There are only two more powerful that a man can use. One at least, I know, still exists. ..." (Pg 182, TSR) So yeah, Callandor is a very strong sa'angreal, but here Lanfear mentions two male ones that are even more powerful. Obviously the m…

  2. Who uses and why: Aes Sedai – current age – After the breaking they started using the Oath rod so people would trust that they were not in peril. Criminals – AOL – insure no deviant behavior What it does: Aes Sedai say they “feel” the oaths taken, ingraining into their being/ soul But how does it work? The persons thread in the pattern has many different possible paths, I believe that the pattern doesn’t give them options that would let them go against the oath Therefore the oath rod (Binder) is a tool of the pattern Pattern controls “souls” and re-spins them out to its purpose Proofs: The pattern spins souls out when needed. (ie tav’ern an…

So, we know some favts about him, or at least I know some facts about him, but I want to know more. Cheers to the man/woman who write down lots of stuff about Asmodean, who I really don't have much against, despite that he was, a chosen one.

What the heck is their deal? Does anyone else suspect that Nicola is going to turn Darkfriend? She just seems waaay too ambitious and willing to do anything for power, knowledge, etc. Thoughts?

Several times in the series, Forsaken mention finding stasis boxes. Graendal found one containing streith, Aran'gar found one containing 'the most appalling rubbish', Sammael found one full of artwork (I think), and Ishamael found one full of Zomara. 1. So if the Forsaken are finding these boxes all over the place, they must be pretty common. Maybe they look like blocks of stone, and no third-ager realizes what they are, or how to open them. If that's the case, how do the Forsaken know what they are, and how do they know where to look? 2. In The Great Hunt, Ishamael has dozens, if not a hundred, Zomara serving darkfriends at a meeting. So.. a. The box he fo…

In order to write effectively about men and non-men who fought with swords and lances, he hefted them, he swung them. I don't know if this has already been discussed, but I've just starting re-reading the series and have just finished reading ACoS and realised that Rand has met the Creator. during his battle with Sammael at Shadar Logoth, Rand meets a man who helps him with his battle against Sammael and says "Try not to stumble. A great many plans will have to be relaid if you get yourself killed now." The major word in those sentences is RELAID. If Rand was to die then Tarmon Gai'don would not go ahead, he has to be at the last battle, this means the creator would step in and delay the event until the Dragon was reborn. Also, what is more proof is the fact that the man uses b…

Let me start by stating quite explicitly that IMO, the WoT covers are exceptionally disappointing for so great a novel. I try not to judge a book by its cover, but interesting covers do draw the eye nevertheless. I had always been under the assumption that authors get to design their covers to a great extent and so wondered why RJ decided to go for such weak covers (possible exception book 3). Hoever, I just realized that the author gets practically no say whatsoever in the cover of their book. You may want to look here for more info on that: http://readingunderthecovers.blogspot.com/2007/07/i-hate-my-book-cover-5.html So it seems that RJ most likely w…

After doin some brief searches on the internet.. I honestly have not found too many pictures of some of the Seanchan exotics. So.. I decided to attempt drawing some of my own. The Raken and To'Raken seem to be the easiest/most common, and from description seem to resemble a cross between a pterodactyl and a dragon/wyvern. Torm.. I think I've seen two pictures of these creatures, total, and neither of them resemble my version, or how I imagined them by the descriptions. "Catlike" was nowhere to be seen in really either one of them. Corlm.. Didn't really do much of a search for these, or the others, but I did sketch out my own version. I might attempt another. If I …

Considering the fact that Rand's soul is one which was picked by the Wheel to be woven into the Pattern at a necessary time, it stands to reason that his soul was lying in wait in tel'aran'rhiod along with the rest of the Heroes until Rand was born. I have a few questions concerning this. I do not think any of the questions can be answered reasonably. I'm fairly certain any answer given will be speculation. 1) What form does Rand's soul take while it is in the World of Dreams waiting to be woven out into the Pattern again? 2) Would the insanity which controlled Lews Therin during the end of his life consume him even in death? 3) Or maybe he wasn't insane be…

I found this during a re-read in Book 9: Sulin gave the Warder an impatient frown and continued with barely a pause for his interruption. "Three times we saw flying creatures like those you say the Seanchan use, huge things with ribbed wings and people riding their backs. And twice we saw tracks like this." Bending, she picked up one of the arrows and drew a rounded shape a little like a large bear's paw in the snow, but with six toes longer than a man's fingers. "Sometimes it shows claws," she said, marking them, longer even than one of the big bears in the Mountains of Mist. "It has a long stride. I think it runs very fast. Do you know what it is?" He did no…

Excluding the seals on the dark one's prison, Cuendillar is supposedly the hardest substance in the world and is indestructible. It is also said that any attempt to break it whether by channeling or otherwise only makes it stonger. Does anyone see the question I have regarding this and logic? If something is indestructible, how can it become... more indestructible... Clearly I have too much time on my hands. :P

  15. I have a rather simple question actually. I bought a while ago the first ten books in the wheel of time series, but I found out that this are smaller copies of the books. Because I bought another book and this was a larger one. But I can't find any difference between them. They are both hardcovers, the have the same isbn number, but the only difference is the size. So my question is , waht are these smaller ones? And are there smaller ones of book 11,12 available to buy and make my collection completen. Because 12 books of the same size looks coler than different sizes. I hope you guys can help.

  16. What is your greatest regret over reading WoT? Mine: I read the series too fast. I was too interested about what was going on and didn't read as slowly as I should have. I realize now that it spoiled quite a bit for me as reading the books at a slower pace is a separate pleasure all in itself. I berate myself all the time for this error and I'm determined to spend at least 2-3 weeks on AMOL.

What if Mat to save the world has to somehow trade the male or female half of the source. someone else might have thought of this before me but i thought it was a good idea.

  18. So, you are one major capitalist, and you have somehow teleported yourself in Randland, Tear. Controlled by Rand Al'Thor and his fellow High Lords and Ladys. You have a good sum of money for a nice start. As you walk down the mud-street in Tear, you begin to think of what you will do. You know what the current events are in the world(eleventh book). You are not a darkfriend, no wife, nor kids. You are in you early twenties, and you are not a criminal either. Let us say you got the money from a rich uncle who died. You have no friends or family, your uncle was your last relative who died, and, after his death, you realise that you must start a familiy of your own…

Who do YOU think would win? There are many references in the books to various kinds of stares, or scowls, or whatever you wish to call them. There are icy stares from Aes Sedai/Wise Ones mostly, as well as staring daggers from various people as well. There has probably been something akin to staring red hot flames as well. While thinking on this do not forget the Atha'an Miere, they can match the Aes Sedai stare for stare. Personally I seem to think that either Sorilea or Cadsuane have the best stares of them all. Sorilea can measure you up and down with a look and give you a damn good tongue lashing to boot. This does not seem to work on Cadsuane. Therefore I be…

I've seen quite a bit of criticism on this board that RJ overused the 'skirt smoothing' in his books, and I believe this criticism is undeserved. In an embaressing situation (and boy are the books full of such scenarios), what else would a girl do when she wishes to avoid directly observing someone/something? Smoothing your skirts is an excellent distraction which appears somewhat normal. You can't start combing your hair or applying cosmetics in such scenarios. It is similar to fiddling with buttons or checking your bag for something you know isn't there just to pass the time in an embaressing situation. I know it gets irritating at times but there are few a…

I was recently re-reading certain plot lines in the last 3 books, and I came upon a statement in CoT that hinted that Nicola and Arenia mirror each other, like Elayne and Birgitte. Does anyone think that possibly Nicola could have bonded Arenia just as Elayne did Birgitte?(though not under the same circumstances)

Fist, what happens if some one is behind a wall of...ah man i cant think of what it is called. the unbreakable metal. oh yea cuandalar or something like that. any way, what if someone is behind that and bf is shot at him. does the the bf go through it or just stop. i know it wont destroy it. second, what if a gateway opens up and the edge runs into the...unbreakable metal. do you think it can cut through it or will it just push it out of the way. i think a suit of... that metal would be realy cool.

  23. We all know that AS live very long periods of time. What happens when Egwene bonds Gawyn as her warder but she goes on to live for like 200 years and Gawyn dies of old age? I know that the warder bond gives the warder long life but I don't think that it would make him live as long as the AS. Would an AS feel her warder deteriorating through the bond?

Ok, so we have the three lads, Egwene, Nynaeve. That's our original 'cast' from Emonds Field. Rand, is the Dragon Reborn, 'nuff said. His plate is pretty full. Mat, is soon to be the worlds' greatest general. He's also charged with looking after a small boy, rescuing Moiraine and keeping his future bride safe. Oh, and he was originally none too keen on taking a bride. Egwene, is the 'puppet' amyrlin although she isnt. She's not turned out quite the way the Little Tower intended, but she's doing very well at it. I understand she is taken by the real tower in book 11. Quite busy. Nynaeve, has it a bit easier, although she has quite a lot on her plate tr…

  26. Greetings and salutations Wheel-freaks all over the globe, Let me start with a big “Thank You”, to the regular (theory-)posters out here. Thanks for all the inspiring insights, the debates you’ve had among yourselves and your countless words that motivated me to dig ever deeper into the Fabric of the Wheel. It’s a lot of fun to have spend my spare (and sometimes not so spare) time here over all the years. It is your words & your threads out here –together of course with the Wheel that RJ created- that has gotten me so fascinated in all sorts of religions I hardly ever heard of before, in ancient history, mythology & philosophy. I realize this is no…

That's right, I 'said' it. I find that some people in the WOT series are, for lack of a better word, cowards. Unwilling to defend themselves so they just do what they are told. Egwene used to be one of those characters, since she became Amyrlin she has developed some guts and she only takes sh*t from Lelaine and Romanda to further her own plans. I'd like to bring out exhibit 'A', the Aes Sedai and Wise Ones. The Aes Sedai act arrogant from the word go yet when they are put in the Wise Ones' control they quiver up and do as they are told. As we know, the Wise Ones don't determine hierarchy by the individuals' ability to channel, instead it's based on some mysterious f…

But after wards, she looked at the notes alongside the ring and then forgot about them, and that was the end of the chapter. I am now reading KoD and am 4 chapters in, what do you thing what as in those notes?
