In COS chapter Unseen Eyes, Egwene has some dreams at the end. I don't remember any discussions on some of these. A golden hawk stretched out it's wing and touched her., and she and the hawk were tied together somehow; all she knew was that the hawk was female. A man lay dying in a narrow bed, and it was important he not die, yet outside a funeral pyre was being built, and voices raised songs of joy and sadness. A dark young man held an object in his hand that shone so brightly she could not see what it was. Could the hawk be Berelain? Maybe the light is Mat with half the light of the world?

Funnily enough, I was fascinated by Moridin's description of Sha'rah, and I was wondering if the game might be recreated in real life. It wouldn't be the first time a game that first appeared in a story was recreated in real life... (I know Icehouse is an example of such a game.) Of course, Moridin doesn't give us many of the rules, but I thought I'd list them here: -A 13 by 13 checkered black and white board surrounded on all sides by a green-and-red goal row -Two players, each with 33 pieces. On Moridin's board, the pieces are red and green. -One neutral piece, called the Fisher, placed in the center of the board. The first object of the game is to c…

In Moiraine's letter to Thom, she says Thom, Mat and one other must rescue her. She says if there are more than 3 of them, they will fail or atleast some of them die. With that said, who will be the third? I was always expecting it to be Olver, but now Noel/Jain volunteered... So what part does Olver play in it?

During the Cleansing, it always struck as odd to me that "X guy was skulking through the forest", or "Z dude was hiding at a hilltop" or whatever. Since they apparently had to go to such an easily ambushable place to do the thing, couldn't Cadsuane at least have made Narishma wipe out the surrounding hills and forests, so they'd have clear sight of anyone approaching instead of sending out advance parties at risk of them getting killed? And I won't even start on what the Forsaken should have done instead of a blind, all-out approach from all directions.

I'm interested to find out if the foxhead ter'angreal is protected from Balefire. We know that the wearer is protected from direct weaves, and since a fireball was a direct weave (assuming that Nynaeve's ter'angreal works like Mat's), then it stands to reason that Balefire would also disperse upon hitting the user. But what about the item itself? When the ter'angreal is hit by Balefire, the weave dissolves, but when it is hit by Balefire, it also ceases to exist before it was hit, so the Balefire won't be dissolved since what would dissolve it does not exist at the moment it hit. So if you target the ter'angreal with Balefire, you can kill the one wearing it. Or not?…

We've seen several evidence that saidar itself is failing - disfunctional Keepings and wards in the Tower and elsewhere etc. However, we don't have similar hints that the same thing happens with saidin. One may argue that saidin is rarely used for Keepings and related purposes, so it wouldn't really be noticed, but I feel that a little too much emphasis has been placed on the saidar part if that was the case. Why do you think saidar is acting like that? I feel that by misusing an abnormal amount of saidar during the Cleansing, Rand accidentally caused a malunfction in the female half of the Source. Perhaps the origins of an Age where saidar is tainted and saidin clea…

I was wondering what everyone else thinks about the reason for these bargains the sea folks make, acquiring land in Andor and where else? I know RJ said that not all threats are going to be concluded in AMOL - but why put it in, in the first place if it is not important? Any theories?

So here's something that I was thinking about.... RJ could have done a little better job of addressing the fact that AS make bad damane because of the oath that prevents them from using the power as a weapon except against SP or when their life or the life of their warder is in danger. We've seen some "fully trained" AS in the ranks, yet Damane are used as offensive tools. I'm sure the logical explanation is "they wait until the battle starts and the AS's life is truly in danger before using them" but it still sounds like its a risk brining that type of Damane into the fight... just a thought!

  9. Okay so we all know that when someone with the spark first channels they get "sick". We know this happened to Nynaeve after she healed someone who was supposed to die, and it happened to Rand after he blew up the room him and Mat were in at some inn when they were on the run. What confuses me is at one point Rand is talking with Moiraine and she mentions she had an inkling he could channel because when they were fleeing the Two Rivers in tEotW she took away the horses weariness but Bela for some reason didnt need it. After reading the EotW again the description from that section (ice cold, marrow boiling ect.)sounded an awful lot like Rand did in fact channel, so why didn…

  12. Started by RAND AL THOR,

Mierin (aka Lanfear) loved Lews Therin Telamon. One of the reasons why she went over to the Great Lord of the Dark is that LTT refused her (I am too sure about this but I think its correct). She was trapped in limbo for 3000 yrs during which she was apparently able to perceive the events of the world. She continued to love LTT. She tried to seduce Rand (LTT reborn) several times. She plotted against the Forsaken sorely for Rand's benefit. She provided Rand with valuable info on the Choeden Kal. When Rand refuses her, she is depressed for ,like, a minute and then immediately tries to kill him. Is that even possible? After SOOOO long, how can her hear…

I've been reading the one on 'Most unfair fight' and it was commented that quite often we know who will win the fight even before steel touches steel, for example Rand fighting Rochaid / Kisman whichever one it was in Far Madding - he knew his next punch would kill the guy. So I got to thinking. Is it ALL so predictable? No, not in my head because the biggest question we EVER have is 'Will Rand live or die?' Then I got to thinking of other things which happened that we really (or at least I really) werent expecting. This is my list; 1. ... the Sheinaran guy who was a darkfriend... 'Five ride forth, Four return'... can't remember his name!! 2. Rahv…

In exchange for description of clothes, furniture and dresses RJ left out quite a few things that could have added to the story: - Mat's fight with Couladin - Semirhage's destruction of the Imperial family - The use of Aludra's dragons in battle Can you think of any other major events that you would like to have seen instead of seemingly endless descriptions - or long scenes on minor characters?

I think I know who the Seanchan woman with Egwene is in her dream of facing Rand. I think it's Alivia. I just listened to the part where Alivia says Nyneave was satisfied when Cadsuane didn't know something and then Alivia says how can you be satisfied with not knowing. This seems like foreshadowing to me because Egwene wants to know everything too.

We know that Cyndane is obviosly Lanfear. We know this because she says that the Aelfinn and Eelfinn had held her and she calls Rand Lews Therin. But despite the clues, the forsaken are still convinced Cyndane is not Lanfear because she is much weaker in the power than Lanfear was. What i want to know, is why she is weaker than she was??

Aiel always call people by the maximum number of names they've got. Aviendha specifically mentions that she was 'trying very hard' to call Elayne just Elayne. I found one instance in TSH where Rhuarc refers to Rand as just 'Rand.' This was really weird because I have so become used to the Aiel clan chiefs calling him Rand al Thor. Was it an error? I'm sure it was because it never happens anywhere else. This occurs just after Rand's attack by his mirror images. Last page of that chapter.

In the EotW when our heroes are fleeing the Two Rivers they come to a "city", Baerlon. In this city there is a Whitecloak presence but the town mayor, or govenor or w/e doesn't like them so he only allows a few in the town at a time. Anyway, the morning after they arrive Rand and Mat are walking in the town (heading back to the inn i believe) when they see some Whitecloaks. Mat causes them to get mud all over their cloaks and they are understandibly annoyed so they confront Rand who was laughing. And that continues for a little bit, and at the end he is pretty freaked out, but then it's nvr mentioned again. So waht happened?

Mat has a lot to do in book 12. - Spend time with his new wife (maybe?) - Lead the Band in battle (maybe?) - Rescue Moiraine (definitely) Half the book could be dedicated to him. Just seems like RJ gave him a lot to do and not much time to do it. Thoughts?

  23. The Bore seemed to have come into existence in a place that was much like any other region in Randland. It decayed and became the Blight afterwards. Apparently, the Bore exists everywhere at once but can be most easily perceived at Shayol Ghul. Was there a Shayol Ghul before the Bore? If there was no Bore, then would it have been possible for anyone to contact the DO? I am unsure when exactly the Forsaken went over. I believe that the Bore was not intentionally drilled.

Are the seafolk redundant? Rand wanted a deal with them to shuttle cargo and troops and had to give up land in exchange. But with all the ashaman, Aes Sedai, Kin, and wiseones - can't they make enough doorways to move whatever he wants? Then the bowl of winds. The deal is made to provide training in exchange for fixing the weather. Wouldn't the seafolk have needed it fixed as well? And even though they are the 'masters' of weather, couldn't the Aes sedai have figured it out on their own? It might have taken longer to correct, but probably would have gotten the job done. Just seems like they're getting the better end of deals when their 'services' are redun…

Is Taim just a darkfriend? Or is he one of the forsaken? It is mentioned that he survived 15 years without going mad from the taint, I think this must be a clue. Throughout the series it is also often pointed out that some of the male forsaken (can't remember which) were extremely jealous of Lews Therin. Taim is always wearing coats and things with dragons on them etc. and is very jealous of Rand. So is he one of the Forsaken?

I think Rand will use Mat to strike a deal with Tuon and the Seanchan for TG, it mentions this in one of the prophecies... After that, i think Rand is going to make a move to start TG (like smashing the seals) and all the great captains mentioned in the books, lead by Mat are going to make some plan to hold off all the forces of darkness just long enough for Rand, accompanied by some others, to seal the DO. I think the left over forsaken are going to try stop Rand and there's going to be a face-off between between the forsaken and Rand's companions while he tries to seal the DO. I'd like to think Cyndane/Lanfear might turn to light, but she could just fight Moiraine ag…

I've been doing lots of outside work latley and I've had a chance to listem to almost the whole serise so far on my Ipod, (which by the way is a totally different experience for those who haven't listen to the audio tracks I reccoment it!) and I've realize there's a lot of fights or battles in within the books that are just way to one-sided. You just know right away who's going to win, usually what main characters are fighting (cause you know they won't be killed off, RJ is a little predictable in that sense) For me the most unfair fight would have to be when The girls (Nynaeve , Elayne) were escaping to the River Serpant after leaving Lucas show. Its a mini battle…

I'm in the middle of a re-read (like 4th or 5th) and I noticed some things that hadn't ever hit me before in tDR. 1) With all of the parallels that RJ made with Rand and King Arthur, I hadn't noticed one that now seems obvious: - King Arthur became king, or proved his kingship, by pulling the sword out of the stone (in some versions). Only the true king could pull it out (although as Terry Pratchett said, the guy who put the sword in the stone in the first place really is king material, but I digress...) - Rand proved he was the dragon reborn by pulling the sword (callandor) out of the stone (of Tear). 2) When Egwene, Nyn, and Elayne are talking with t…

Hey all. First post here so sorry if its been mentioned before. I rememeber reading from a previous post a while back that Ta'veren arent borne Ta'veren but rather become Ta'veren when the pattern are in need for them. Does that mean that when there is no need for them they are no longer Ta'veren. For instance does Mat lose all his luck etc.

The prologue in the Eye of the World clearly states that the Dragon will be reborn etc.... As the first book progresses, it becomes increasingly obvious that one of the trio is the Dragon. Was the prologue a spoiler for the suspense in the whole book? (Unfortunately I cannot answer this because I had mistakenly first picked up Book 3 in the bookstore and read the blurb which said something like "Rand al'thor, the Dragon Reborn must now reunite the nations etc..." So that, like, spoiled the whole first book for me. My mistake. Thoughts?
