In The Great Hunt, when Rand et al are staying in Cairhien, where do they get the money for the inn? Last we heard, he'd gone through the Portal Stones, and he was on an official hunt with the Sheinarans, but they don't say he actually got money from them. Perhaps because he was "second in command", but then why did he not know about that until after leaving Sheinar? When he meets with Thom Merrilin, Thom even says to take the flute in case he needed to pay for his dinner again? I suppose he could be selling off the fancy clothes Moiraine forced on him, but does it ever say specifically how he's paying for the inn? It's bugging me for some reason.

I recently purchased a copy of "the gathering storm" hardcover that DOES NOT have rjs printed signature in it. I tried looking up to see if this was something normal but every post or discussion says it is printed in every one of them. Anyone know if this is unique or just a normal thing?

The premise is that a even a king may not be allowed access to the Amyrlin, but any poor woman would be allowed... why? i just accept these things when I read them, that’s their society, but there is no reason to prefer women over men. Given Min’s excuse later, she should have been spoken to kindly by any aes sedai, and then sent to wash dishes if she persisted, not swept into the Amyrlin’s office.

I thought Padan Fain was shaping up to be something interesting, then... Nothing really happened with him. He was brought to the final battle and killed by BS off out of a sense of obligation I suppose, but did he do anything that mattered in the last half of the series? If Perrin had managed to kill him off in the Two Rivers would that have been a better ending for him? And does anybody disagree, and think that Blackwind Faindeith learning about vaccines was a fitting end for the 14 book long buildup?

I've got three years invested in reading the WOT series and this is the closest I've come to giving up. I can't help but notice that the pacing of the series slowed tremendously over the last few books but now, halfway through COT, I am so sick of reading page after page after page of women conspiring and manipulating and talking and sniffing and snorting and smoothing dresses when they're not planting "fists on hips" (I swear if I read that phrase one more time I'm going to throw, THROW this book out of my window) and doing pretty much absolutely nothing that I'm close to giving up on this book and this series. I'm not sexist. I have always found the female charact…

I originally broke away from the series some years ago, I think midway through Crossroads of Twilight. All I really remember is that I read most of the book and absolutely nothing happened while two groups of Aes Sedai stared at each other across a field (if my memory can be trusted), then something interrupted me and I never got back to finish it. I'm a third of the way through Path of Daggers this re-read, planning to finally finish off the series, and I'm wondering if I'm starting to see the beginnings of what dampened my interest the first time. Not enough to matter yet, but enough to question. A third of a book that could probably be summari…

For me it would be the Seanchan. Almost everything about them disgusts me; the slavery and indoctrination/brainwashing of people; the stupidity of not looking into each others eyes; their sheer brutality and cruelty; and, worst of all, the frankly evil practice of turning people who can channel into fucking pets. The only positive I can think of is that they are very efficient, especially when compared to the other nations, and they do bring some sense of stability to the locales they conquer. What would you change and why?

For me I was 19 and the first book I waited on was Crown of Swords. I remember when my best friend compelled me to read the first book, and I remember not being that thrilled with the story at first. Even with the Winternight action, I still wasn't hooked, and I wondered why my friend had led me astray in this Lord of the Rings ripoff. Then they arrived at Baerlon, which kinda felt like Bree... compounding my frustration. Then they arrive at Shadar Logoth, and the fellowship is forced to split up... and THAT was when the story finally clicked with me. I was suddenly engulfed in the fantasy storytelling genius of RJ. The inner monologues of each of the cha…

I have read the series in total 3 times and have read book 1 at least 7 haha. But this reread i was thinking about being a part of the story, and I started to notice that thom has a personality I would use if I were to write myself in. Just a theory.

This has been on my mind lately. Are breeches the euqivalent of trousers or underwear? In the WoT they sometimes seem to be trousers-like and sometimes underwear-like. Curious question I guess......

I mean when Brandon Sanderson takes over? I'm 49 pages away from the end of Knife of Dreams and I put off finishing it a little bit because I'm unsure of the next three books. Sometimes when an author takes over for another author it can be pretty bad - I mean all authors are different. Does it change very much or does he try and keep it as close as he can to the original tone?

I’m reading book 2 and the aes sedai are talking about punishing Moraine. This just seems so much like The Rickest Rick vs the Citadel of Ricks.

My psychology professor used to go into the wilderness for weeks at a time. Being away from people for long period of times impacts their ability to communicate. Ranchers and farmers who live alone are uncomfortable around people (see Smarter Everyday Eclipse video). Perhaps Elyas interaction with the wolves offset the influence of being alone, but I think it is more likely RJ didn’t think of checking up on how a person like Elyas should act.

Hello i'm re-reading the series after finishing it ~2 years ago and i'm halfway through the great hunt, problem is i'm sure i remember a scene in one of the books(i think the 1st) where the 3 Ta'veren are fishing from a river and are proud of their small catch only for Moirine to use the one power to pull several straight out of the water amazing the boys. problem is I've just finished the 1st book again and there's nowhere this could have happened as they are always on the run until they separate & I can't see the boys being amazed by this after the 1st book especially as Rand is channeling by the end of tEotW I know its not a big issue but its doing…

im on my 4th reread now and it was a long time this go around. I had for example forgotten Verin was black ajah. or Galad was Rand's half brother. I want to start a post for fans who like to study the intricacies of the early books and how they tie into later books. In example, knowing that Jason Natael is Asmodean in TSR and knowing Rand knows, absolutely changes the interactions. I want this to have posterity so I will be requiring at least some form of sources and be checking them myself. This is not a fan theory post. I look forward to seeing the connections we all make on our rereads.

So, I am working on a project. Designing an Aes Sedai outfit. Obviously, clothing is described often in WoT. Is anyone aware of any study written on the clothing, especially pertaining to the Aes Sedai? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

It has been over 2 years since I finished the final book so I've, naturally, forgotten a lot of things (other than the god awful ending (IMO)). My question is, in which book/s and chapters does the fight between Perrin and Slayer take place? That is, the fight where, at one point, they are trading blows whilst among the spectral figures of the Aiel who are defending Rand (I think). Also, is there any art of the characters within the books that is generally agreed upon by fans to be correct and/or considered canon? The reason for my questions is that I am looking to start a new Blender project and I figured the Perrin vs Slayer fight would be someth…

If you have any, please, share it with us! 1. WOT is a reality show - that's why Shara is so mystic, because the production company takes up the most of the region 2. Tel'aran'rhiod is the real reality - Randland is just a projection 3. Tel'aran'rhiod is where the souls live (RJ on one occasion used the term "the supply of souls awaiting rebirth") 4. Tel'aran'rhiod is the inside of Rand's head (his brain), the dreams are the neurons

One thing that has been bugging me in my last read-through is that the Forsaken grew up speaking the Old Tongue, were locked away for 3000 years, and all the sudden speak a whole new language. In the case of Aginor, within a few weeks or months. Nobody that has ever come into contact with them commented about a funny accent. I know it's nitpicking but its just one of those things that I noticed and can't un-notice.

I started reading this series when I was in sixth grade with the Dragon reborn, then Eye of the world and great hunt and shadow rising. These four books were earlier in my fantasy reading history and helped define epic books, both fantasy and sci fi for the rest of my life. All other authors are judged by his example, with Tokien coming in second for me, his books were just harder for me to follow through. So just a few months ago I started to re read the series in an effort to prepared my self to finally finish the final book in the series. For the most part I've decided to listen to the series on audio first, but my question is should I read or listen to the …

The wheel weaves as the wheel wills." Except that there's not really such a thing as a "weaving wheel." Cloth and tapestries are woven on a loom, not a wheel. Is it possible RJ confused a spinning wheel (that makes yarn or thread) with a weaving loom (that weaves cloth)? That seems like a REALLY big mistake to make... what with naming the whole series after it and all.

In the intro to tGS, it's revealed that Masema had been manipulated by a forsaken. When did this start? And to a lesser extent, does anyone disagree with me that it was Lanfear/Cyndane?

I've always been a bit dissatisfied with the dice Mat has rolling around in his head. There seems to be no clear indication of what they are, or what their point is in the scheme of things. They obviously start up when something important is about to happen, but on a few of the occasions no real luck was involved in what happened afterwards, so no basis there. Not to mention, why does Mat need an indicator of something important about to happen, but Rand and Perrin have no such thing? All the other things in the characters heads have been sufficiently explained. Rand and his Lews Therin voice obviously has a somewhat logical basis there. Perrin is a wolfbrother and i…

In The Dragon Reborn when Mat meets Queen Morgase; Rahvin is there as well. The Dark One knows what the three Two Rivers boys looks like now as evidenced in The Great Hunt at the Darkfriend meeting. If a Myrdrrall knows what they look like and shows it to the room full of Darkfriends wouldn't it stand to reason that one if not all of the Forsaken would also know what they look like? It seems odd to me.

The Wheel of Time turns again and again.... Theory: If the Dark One breaks free then the creator resets the pattern and the wheel. In effect the wheel time has only made a full rotation when the dark one is freed. The Dark one can only truly be free to control the pattern if the Dragon’s soul willing submits to the Dark one and it can only do that while the Dragon is alive. Everything is being setup in order to try and break Rand, but not kill him. In one version of the world Rand is killed by that first Trolloc in the Eye of the World. In that version Shai’tan is freed and the creator resets everything and we get the …

This has been bugging me for a while now and since I am neither an architect nor an engineer, I can't answer it by myself. Hopefully, either someone has already posited this question or a suitable answer can be given to me. My question involves this: how the heck can the White Tower, a six hundred foot building, fit in close to ten thousands people? Let me begin by saying that I imagined the WT roughly as a Pringles can on a shoebox. The rectangular bottom part would be about 100 feet tall, but, since these were the function rooms, meeting halls, and other public spaces, no one lives there. The bottom half may have also housed the staff, at least those that n…

Spoilers How did Rand and Elan end up switching? Is this explained in a appendix somewhere? Also, when Rand can no longer touch the source but instead can impose his will to make things happen, is this because he has transcended the pattern, or is he so attuned to the one power now that he can no longer tell the difference between channeling versus not channeling? Thanks!

I have not posted in many years. I have been re-reading the WOT recently and thinking about the wrap up of the tale. I remember that five years ago some people were upset about the way the story ended and the choices that were made. As I have been doing my re-read, several thoughts came to mind. Also, I ran across an interview of Robert Jordan by WaldenBooks in 1996(very old reference for some). First, some were unhappy that Rand did not destroy the Dark One and just rebuilt the prison. I feel that they missed all the information that existed that told us how the story would end, just not the details. In the interview from 1996 and in other interviews, RJ stated t…
